  • This footage was taken by U.S. astronaut Terry Virts during a spacewalk on the International Space Station on March 1, 2015. Virts and fellow astronaut Barry “Butch” Wilmore routed 400 feet of cable and installed several antennas associated with the Common Communications for Visiting Vehicles system known as C2V2. Boeing’s Crew Transportation System (CST)-100 and the SpaceX Crew Dragon will use the system in the coming years to rendezvous with the orbital laboratory and deliver crews to the space station.

    It must feel good to get outside, stretch your arms and legs, get a change of scenery, answer those questions you've had about the outside of your home, etc. after being in the ISS for a while. I could never do that work. I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes off of our beautiful Earth. God, I just realized how much I love Earth. (Tears flowing.) It is a part of me as I am a part of her and everything else.

      @@riwa1967 I didn't know metal floats in water, thanks for that amazing knowledge! All sarcasm aside, the reason the sound sounds underwater is because it's not being transferred through air (there is none) it's being transferred through solids such as the space suit and camera itself. This makes the sound muffled and distorted. Also, to the bubbles remark, these "bubbles" are just small bits of ice, paint flakes, and debris coming off of the spacecraft due to interference from spacewalkers. All your hoax claims can be put aside with basic science and a bit of research from credible sources. For example, the reason water builds up in astronauts suits is due to sweat, and sometimes failures in the suits water containment. When astronauts are spacewalking for long periods, they need a drink, so theres usually an inbuilt hydration system. Honestly, think about it. Footage like this has been around since long before greenscreens and CGI, and even now it would be impossible to fake long footage of zero gravity, as seen in videos such as tours of the space station. Please, open your mind a bit, and realise you're not being lied to, or just look up at the sky at the right time: you can SEE the international space station passing overhead.

    Strange, where is that humming coming from? Is it from the umbilical winch? Or the radar?
    For that sound to get into GoPro, it has to be connected to the astronaut and the camera itself, since the sound doesn't travel through vacuum.
    Oh nevermind. Apparently the camera is installed next to the HVAC system of the suit, where the pumps and tiny fans are working.

      "We think that this is the sound of the fan running in the EMU (spacesuit.) The GoPro was mounted to the mini-workstation which is mounted to the suit. So, the vibrations just carried through the system. The fan circulates air through the EMU and also drives the water pump and water separator.

      Because they went to high school, sound travels through solids but is a less effective medium, which is why it's largely mid-low vibrations you're hearing traveling through, parts of the station, and the suit.

      +funkybrain They cut the video because when they go in the airlock they have to do an hour of checks while the astronauts sit in the airlock they don't just barge in.

    • @riwa1967
      @riwa1967 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ethan Nixon what ever you say doesn't make sense. Why not filming when they open the hatch. And second, from where they take the air to pressurise the cabin each time over and over again at all does EVAs? Come on... One Astronauts almost drowned, another before him got water in his glove but they are in Space....

    • @ethannixon708
      @ethannixon708 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think you would want to watch him sit and do nothing for an hour and when you brought up pressurization apparently you think it looks spectacular no, it really doesn't and they don't film opening the hatch because they need both of their hands.

    • @riwa1967
      @riwa1967 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Ethan Nixon no I just wanna see the part when he goes inside and closes the hatch without cut... That's all! Also I would like to see for the first time re-entry footage or better a rocket going in space with camera not pointed to earth but to the "space(x)" the moment they leave earth's atmosphere. But since I see air bubbles on multiple occasions rising in the pool where they fake all of this I don't believe in space anymore. Do some research please. Why is it called rocket science? Because every one thinks that is so complicated no one even thinks about how a rocket can fly where is no air to push the thrust against...

    • @ethannixon708
      @ethannixon708 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually in space rockets slow down BUT they do keep going because there are a tiny amount of particles in space.

    • @LexBlagus
      @LexBlagus 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      FokkerBoombass But the camera seems to be outside the space suit, in this case shouldn't be silent? Because it is vibrating in the vacuum of space and this sound comes from the mic embeded in the GoPro. Is the GoPro pressurized!?

    • @FokkerBoombass
      @FokkerBoombass 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lex Blagus That's what I thought, but I was corrected - GoPro case wouldn't be able to hold air in vaccum, it'd just literally explode. However, it doesn't really matter because as it was stated numerous times in this comment thread, sound doesn't require only air to travel. It can also travel through solids.

    • @davekorbiger
      @davekorbiger 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      FokkerBoombass yes, you are right indeed sound can travel through solids, but given that the astronauts have to handle the GoPro inside the ISS, the case should contain air...
      Furthermore the regular case can resist 5 bar of pressure -> difference from standard pressure =4 which is >1 thusly it really should be strong enough to resist the vacuum :)

Some guy hanging outside the ship. What's he doing, window cleaning? Polishing the panels? :P This is hardly pushing forward the frontier of space travel. Some guy hanging outside a floating ship with the sound of someone urinating into a bucket. Who would have thought space was so..... dull. Nasa need to invent warp speed and make space travel remotely exciting!

    Ummmm. It would be cool to see the Milky Way and stars......... This would be to complicated for NASA to do. Independence Day did it. Cmon this is not up to par. I have better view of stars on earth than this movie set!!!!
