    Had a fun thought that Joy Boy's funny story is about him freeing the world from "rulers" so he could then use the ancient weapons to ferry people of the world to his party. Uranus for the skypieans and lunarians, Poseidon moves the Noah for the fishman, and Pluton moves the "humans". And since he failed he also wrote down his favorite song to share with everyone that finds the one piece so it can be played at the party when it finally happens. Of course he didn't expect it to be as popular as it became and that world already knows it.

    This entire video made me question if Roger laughed because he didn’t understand the whole thing again. Oden was surprised because he’s seeing their reaction from an outside perspective but seeing Roger and His Crew, who all possibly grew up in the outside world (ie Wano), it would seem strange. Almost like saying a Dark Joke with friends vs Saying it to a stranger. Maybe the Straw Hats won’t laugh at the One Piece but feel shocked and nervous

    When Tekking's spaghetti thoughts transcend all of our deep contemplation...
    I hope this is the case, and if anyone could pull off a 30-year secret that is truly made by the journey, it would be Oda.
    I'm sure others have suggested this before, but I actually think Matt has nailed this one, it would make a great deal of sense for part of the One Piece to BE the story of One Piece

  • @BFDudes
    @BFDudes ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You bring up a good point about how googling the phrase *"what is the one piece?"* might not bring a satisfactory answer to a new fan, as you may need to have watched and comprehended most of the story first-hand to appreciate it. The one case that comes to mind of this is in Citizen Kane, with the big mystery that's at the center of the plot: Kane's last words *"Rosebud."* I've seen the phrase "rosebud is a sled" stated as a deadpan meme a few times - which is factually correct, and to people who don't know the story or haven't seen the movie, it sounds ridiculous. But to those who have seen it, the reveal of what rosebud really is - mind you, it actually *is* a sled - has more meaning to it, because we as viewers know what this sled represented *to Kane.*
    Apologies to anybody reading this comment who just got spoiled on this, but to be fair: The movie has been out for 80+ years.

    It feels almost like Oda, through Raleigh, is telling people who haven't read the story all the way through to not try and rush to the end so quickly. To enjoy the journey cause once you know then you know. The phrasing he used when Raleigh was talking to Robin was interesting
    "Even if I told you, as you are now, you wouldn't be able to do anything about it"
    It's wild that Raleigh was sitting there and he knows EVERYTHING you want to know. I understand Usopp's trigger happy nature to want to find out and Robin's curiosity but regardless it's better to find out for themselves what it all means. Raleigh even said that him and the Roger pirates came to a certain conclusion once they found out but the straw hats may come to a different one. So it's apparently something that is up for interpretation. He wouldn't have said that otherwise. It's not some straight answer sort of thing

Not to discredit or disparage Oda's ability to tell a nuanced complex story with extremely well liked and complicated characters but you would have to be kidding yourself if you don't think a lot of the love, passion, and over all appeal of the story relies on the mystery of what the one piece, void century, will of D and other unanswered questions.

I mean, even the name Joy Boy doesnt appear for a long time in the story and it feels like that would be the center piece. How much time and effort would it take to try and understand One Piece by spoiling on the important story events? And even then it still might not be enough of information. THAT would be brilliant.

    After you cook your pasta FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD IN THIS WORLD put a lot of butter and a little bit of salt on the pasta before you mix in the sauce, but after you have boiled the pasta.
    The pasta should taste good on it's own. Then you mix in the sauce.

    What if we get to the One Piece and it's guarded by a mysterious figure, someone who has not only been charged with keeping the One Piece safe but making sure the correct group of pirates finds it? What if that person, who's been along for the journey as a silent watchman this whole time...was Panda Man?!?

    I love this idea.
    However I am of two minds here.
    I can't wait to see the end. To have all the mysteries solved. That is one mind. I am hyped and excited.
    But on the other hand, I am so insanely selfish. I don't want it to ever end. The journey, the world being explored and seen is so fascinating and amazing, the mystery, the wonder it is so magical. Oda truly captured the true meaning of romanticism, to such a degree, that if he was capable I would love to have him go forever, and only after decades truly finish and tell us everything.
    The journey and the adventure is the most fun part. I agree with Luffy. In his shoes I would have done the same thing with Rayleigh. Had he told me anything, I would turn around and go home.

    I've had this mindset about one piece since I really got into it. Because I had tried to get into it many times and couldn't. And it wasn't until I saw stuff about wano that I was just like "ok how the heck does this goofy stretchy boy get to this". And it's almost the exact thing as the Nika fruit. Someone who doesn't know one piece would hear luffys fruit is the Nika fruit and be like "ok and?" But after catching up its like "OHHH OK AND NOW WHAT?!"
    So I even have a theory that the fans have essentially predicted EVERYTHING but nothing at the same time. Because we are trying to make it match up to knowledge we know, and we don't know as much as a lot of characters most of the time. I once looked up what the answers to these questions were. And I found the journey that is being a fan of one piece. A while ago I made my mind up that no matter what the one piece is. It's been worth it to me.

  • @humblebeast9813
    @humblebeast9813 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I never thought about it like that. The people who get into one piece after it’s over are definitely going to have a harder time reading it with all the anticipation they are going to experience. Like tekking said, us reading it right now weekly, we don’t have the option to Google the answer of what the one piece is. Which I think is better, cause if you do that it might ruin your experience with the story. To the people who start one piece in 5-6 years when it’s over, try to have as much discipline and patience as possible and enjoy the story as people of the past have lol.

    I kind of agree with you tekking that it will not make sense to new readers. But I do think that if I know someone that is starting it and they ask me what the one piece is I could tell them and maybe just maybe we can see all the foreshadowing that Oda has put in the story and to some it could mak the story better

    One Piece could be the Map/Compass of Dreams, the Will of D. might be the Will of Dawn or Will of Dreams when you wake up in the morning and realize your dream "smiling." By which people dreaming of the Sun God Nika, wishing for the sunrise in the morning after your dream. Like Devil Fruits being realized as they came from people's desires or dreams.

    In my opinion what makes the most sense, coming and going, is that the One Piece is is fact one piece of information, like a globe. So it’s easy to imagine something like that not making any sense within the context of the full story.

  • @PushoverMediaCritic
    @PushoverMediaCritic ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with the idea that the One Piece is something weird and esoteric that you won't properly understand unless you read the whole story ahead of time, and it lines up with my theory about what it is:
    I think the One Piece is a giant barrel of sake that needed to age exactly 800 years. It was brewed by Joy Boy, which was a pseudonym using the initials JB, his real name being Jaguar Binks. He was the ancestor of Saul (thus the giant straw hat in Marijoa) and the Binks from Binks' Sake. The point of the One Piece being a barrel of sake is that it represents a party, it represents all of the D families reuniting after 800 years and having a party together. I think the D stands for the name of Joy Boy's crew, and each crewmember took "D" into their name as a symbol of their camaraderie and a promise to come back together again in the future, similar to the Straw Hats writing the X on their arms at Alabasta.
    That's the kind of weird obtuse storytelling that I hope the One Piece is, something that makes no sense to hear about it without reading the story ahead of time.

    As someone who also does the "reading the last page of a book before starting from page 1" relatively consistently, and then there's the amount of anime and movies where I saw their conclusion before I got to watch it proper, like, ffs, the first episodes of Dragonball I saw as a kid on tv were GT before I got to start with the original... I don't think it'd be that difficult to write the One Piece so that you'd still be moved to read the entire story (or close to) even knowing the conclusion. Like, Naruto is a good example with this, even if you know that Naruto becomes the Hokage, you kinda want to know how he got there, what kinda struggles he had to surpass, stuff like that. I don't think it's that different when the goal is a material treasure, you'd want to know the significance of it. What WOULD be more difficult would be, as you mentioned Rayleigh implied, that its meaning changes depending on where you are in the story. Generally, I feel that'd require some "so is it a good or a bad thing?" kinda dynamic, basically like how the perception of what titans are in Attack on Titan switched multiple times throughout that series, where just knowing what they are wouldn't give you a good idea of it and would change how you perceive the leading actors. That... I feel is somewhat lacking in One Piece, our perspective is relatively consistent with "freedom good, pirates want freedom, but not all pirates are good, WG restricts freedom, but not all facettes of the WG are bad", so I don't think Oda could actually go for something like this, so I don't feel that's what Rayleigh meant. At best, there could be one big twist towards the end, but if that was the case, all you'd need to know is that one twist. So since he can't change the meaning of the One Piece, what he could do instead might be to change its *significance* and that's again where I'd bring up Attack on Titan since I'd say that was actually quite important towards its conclusion, a question like "is the existence of Titans necessary in the world?", we can see something similar in One Piece with the One Piece at first only being this treasure, that, while impressive as "the worlds greatest treasure", doesn't seem to be much more, but as we go on, we kinda learn the significance of it being the sign of the "king of the pirates" and the importance of that title, we learn about its relation to the Void Century, Joyboy and the World Government, we have theories about it being a plan to literally terraform the entire world of One Piece as we know it, in that sense, skipping directly to what the One Piece is without reading the story could maybe end up being something similar to just learning what Erens goal towards the end of Attack on Titan is.
    In general, I think a story that can easily be skipped by reading its final page is a badly written story... or the reader has no sense for literature/fantasy, that's also an option. A story is after all not a scientific experiment where only the conclusion is generally important, as cliche as it is, in a story, to a certain degree, the journey should always be part of the goal.

    Tekking, what’s if the One Piece is an ever changing thing, like for Roger it was Luffy’s story told through Joy Boy’s perspective, and when Luffy get’s there it tells the story of Joy Boy when he was initially around in the void century, but everyone who reads the story is told something completely different.

    Well a summary for One Piece once it has ended could be: Condom boy turns out to be a happy accident goes on to use a phallic shaped object to Uranus to free willy. (Hopefully something funnier) but i think it's going to be relativly hard for new readers because it's going to be so meme worthy.
    And yes there are already hints that i expect will blow our minds. Like the depiction of whales on the Alabasta temple.
