Love it! In terms of audio sync, one interesting consideration is a viewing audience accustomed to seeing frame-perfect lip sync in the context of a video presentation. This is regardless of apparent distance because most of the time it's more important for the audience to understand that the sound and object making the sound are related than it is for them to understand how far away the object is from the apparent vantage point.

Best 10 minutes of my life!! The last part on delayed audio really blew my mind!
This makes me think of the actual purpose of those claperboards you see before film takes. It gives you a very clear visual of the clap closing shut, as well as the clear audio of the clap to let you sync up sound and audio tracks that are otherwise recorded with different systems. In this way, it becomes a much more trivial thing to sync them up in the initial part of post production editing, allowing you to record audio on a completely separate system to the video.
I'm sooo late to the party but in case anyone is too: ☝️ is the correct solution.
Just go wired lav to your phone, record it. Then sync in post.

Great video! I think the latency is mainly caused by the phone being used as the receiver. Connecting a standard fm radio with a headphone output instead should get rid of the audible latency entirely.

I used to use 200Mhz radiomics for the stumps effects on cricket matches for tv in the ‘90’s. The antennas were at least 30cm long though and I held them up out of the pitch on little bamboo skewers.
I have that same FM transmitter (Scosche FMT4R) and I figured out that if you power it from 5v the range goes up to ~100m. I eventually soldered a USB cable to the battery contacts and powered it from a mobile battery pack.

Interesting way of making a gain stage with the second opamp. It took me some time to figure out that the low pass filter before the non-inverting input is to get a DC amplification factor of 1. This makes the circuit suitable to be used with an asymmetrical power supply.

Isn't that the phone making most of the delay? Transmitter might add some too, if it is "too digital" inside. Most analog systems have quite low delay, try some el-cheapo tiny FM receiver (with 3.5mm jack… wait, 3.5mm jannet connector), this might help.
Pretty sure this is the issue. Phone FM receiver has no need to be low latency as you are listening a broadcast done in a completely different place. Probably also the small FM transmitter is analog, so with an analog FM receiver you would most likely have no latency at all.

Is there a way to fix the latency through a circuit, or by using higher quality components?
unfortunately it is mostly related to the phone codecs and apps. If the receiver was just a simple FM radio, there is only very small acceptable latency.
I'm not an expert, but Android's audio stack introduces a large amount of latency, regardless of the specific app or audio hardware. If you do an internet search for "android audio latency", you'll see what I'm talking about.
Some radio apps have a set buffer time that can be disabled in the settings. Check it out
Kris Gillespie ASIO audio drivers can reduce the delay of sounds that are synthesised by applications, but i don't know if they do the same thing for audio from the microphone jack. It also might be hard / impossible to get one running on android.
It is impossible to fix the latency through a circuit, because that circuit would have to be non-causal, which basically means that it would have to predict the future.

I think the latency you are experiencing comes mostly from your phone, which buffers the received FM signal, possibly to do some processing on it. A simpler (e.g. fully analog) FM receiver would fix that.

So usually in the a/v world for wireless audio transmiters we use infrared because FM signals are very populated and also very antuquated and bluetooth in unessacary as the range of bluetooth is shorter than infrared and transmitters that can do anything large enough for most concert or live settings are just to expesive so even though for most people infrared is very anoying in large live settings it is perfect for wireless audio (sorry for the essay)

This so reminds me of the time a friend showed me how to make real time effects on my mic and I started testing it just like how Mehdi does in the video, but forgot that I was still in the discord call so that person got tired and just left the call. I was so ashamed of myself later, but now I'm just laughing when coming back to that memory.

I've always debated exactly how a voice should sound on video. The distant audio has a different psychological effect than lav audio, and it seems to me that each one has its place for different types of productions.

Using an analog receiver (like an old or cheap radio, instead of a digital one like the phone) makes the delay much smaller, almost inexistent :) maybe the transmitter has a delay too but it's less likely to have a big delay
