The reason why people go mad for it, is because that type of culture has kind of gone now. The way kids used to act and even the snacks they used to show on the series was so similar to what you would have at home and how children would act with their siblings. If you look at dumping ground now or any of the tv shows on cbbc, they dont have that anymore. The outdatedness feels so homely too.
Also each episode is just amazing story telling and the way the children would react to situation would be exactly what as a child we would do or wish we could do. So that's why when kids were younger they wanted to be in the dumping ground. Because they felt like it was their second family.
The golden age of childrens tv has gone for awhile now, but that's because theyve produced all of their good ideas now it's really lame. My little sister watches so awkward and it's so terrible. But I think that could be due to how children love social media more than cbbc. So they have really boring storylines.

"The golden age of children's tv has gone", this is such bullshit and something I frequently hear from people who have come of age. They harp on about how bad current children's TV is, or youth culture in general, not once stopping to think maybe the reason why it doesn't appeal to them is because they are no longer in the appropriate and targeted demographic. It's a sentiment expressed by almost every generation when they grow up about the new generations, believing the culture of their youth is/was superior to the culture of contemporary youths. The reality is it really isn't, it is just you romanticising your childhood - heck I used to do it all the time but I quickly realised I was expressing the same sentiments that my parents had expressed about the superiority of the culture of their childhoods.
Honestly, I loved Tracy Beaker when it first came out when I was 7 but upon reflection I cringe at a lot of the issues addressed and the way they were addressed. As a child I thought that was what care homes really were like. My cousin was placed in care around the time TSOTB first aired and I remember being quite jealous because I thought what I was seeing in TSOTB was his daily experience - of course it wasn't. The reality was he was placed in care because he had vulnerable parents who couldn't look after him, put in a place he didn't know, around people he didn't know, sad because he just wanted to go home.

the fact the episodes were 15 mins was genius too. they have the same amount of content as 30 min episodes, but just get rid of all the fluff and time wasting that you see in other shows. makes it so watchable

One irrelevant thing I liked about TSOTB is how it feels very 1990s/ early 2000s, the victorian looking homes and the house decor, everything was such bright colours back then, now everyone seems to paint their walls grey and fit double glazing to their homes and as a result doesn't look as exciting or nostalgic. I feel like the more colour, the more homely it feels and that's just one point becaus TSOTB is a revolutionary marvellous sensationional hit and I'm so glad it's successful!

@@merlinmediagroup not true at all. Alot of things these days are really strange or copies of something from the past. One show my little sister currently watches is literally about preteens trying to get boyfriends. I just find that so sad. Yes it is cringey to re watch and I know care homes are nothing like that. I used to hate my home life it was quite abusive and I wanted to go to a care home because I thought it would be slightly similar to TSOTB. I now work for a company who owns care homes and educational institutions. Some famillies (care kids) genuinely love their home and dont want to leave others are so terrible they shouldnt be in a home because they're dangers to others.
