Just for context, he wrote and recorded this at the height of his drug problems, so probably genuinely didn't think he was gonna be around for much longer. 2004 was when the drug problem got worse. Then 2006 and 07 it gotten extreme. Em was actually 10 mins away from dying. Context for this song.
Bruhhh Ems drug problem was extreme the entire time. It didn’t really get more extreme he just changed drugs. The drugs he OD’d on were actually safer than the drugs he was taking before, ironically. What a life. It’s because it was before social media. If we would have got an insight into life beyond his videos, we would probably have called him out as a junkie long ago. Just like we do with rappers now. We just never got to actually visualize his addiction because social media wasn’t a thing yet lol

You can literally hear the pain in his voice the realness when he said “and you would destroy anyone who would try to harm her” you knew he meant that with the utmost confidence and assurance with the way he said it

It took a specialist telling my mom and I that if I kept drinking I'd die and my mom breaking down begging me not to die. Anytime I consider having a drink, I flash back to the image of the strongest woman in my life bursting into tears begging me not to die.

One thing about Em is when he be rapping anything that concerns family you know my boy be bringing it real. Hailie always has been and always will be the glue that holds Em together and keeps him grounded. His performance at the rock n roll hall of fame when he gets inducted is a must see.

This was back during the time I thought Em wasn't going to be around much longer. I was in addiction myself on alot worse drugs than Em was and I also have full custody of my little girl. This song and the fact I wanted to be here for my daughter got me clean. This shit hits home and i tear up everytime I listen to it
