Couldnt agree more. I personally like my dji tx too, mostly becuase it just makes things sooooo much easier for me. However, there is no doubt that having crossfire is a plus. The biggest turn off and pain in the ass in this hobby is 100 percent hands down shitty analog video components. Going to digital was far and away the single best decision ive yet to make in this hobby.

I just did this. Started from scratch. Waited till I could afford DJI goggles and decided on the crossfire Tango 2 radio. 150% I am so thankful I did not waste my time with anything else. Every day I am amazed with the quality and feel of the DJI goggles and Tango 2 radio. If your starting from scratch, it’s a hard decision to upgrade to DJI and crossfire later. So invest a little more now and buy once. Also portability of a small case with a tango 2 is a major thing! Also, forget a GoPro or other camera for now. Use the DJI air unit or Caddx goggle video recording until you improve a lot. At that point save up for a GoPro hero 8 black. I have the GoPro already. But 90% of the time, I know that my “learning” video is simply not worth running the gopro. Especially with damage risk. So I watch the amazing caddx / DJI goggle footage very happily while I am learning to fly smoothly. It’s more than good enough.
    My 2c

Great breakdown, covered all the bases!
Personally after a year in the hobby, I opted for DJI goggles. Out of the price range for $800, but digital is most definitely the future. Analog I think the Skyzone is right no question, but without other pilots in my area, the lost social aspect is moot, and the option to go analog is available.
The only tidbit I'd add is don't fly with a GoPro to start! Excess weight, your DVR and the joy of free flight is just as good to start.
Speaking of starting, and budget I think software like LiftOff is a must. You can get stick time early while waiting for the non controller buys to come in, especially if you wait for sales or quality buys, so when you actually fly, you don't break on the first pack but your last one, where you'll then have a trainer to practice as your new arms come in!

I ended up spending just over $1500 to get started. My first frame comes on Monday and then I should finally be able to build my first drone. I didn't buy a gopro or mount yet. I'm exactly at this point, what a great video and at the exact perfect moment! I just got my TBS tango 2 and doing tutorials on the sim at the moment. Excellent recommendations. But I would go with 6S quad and lipos (1100mAh CNHL Black Series). They may be a little more expensive so you could pick 5 lipos instead of 6 for the 800 dollar budget but 6S is a) more fun and b) more future proof.
Gadgets I regret buying: Cheap frames with aluminium parts that bend and cannot be bent back and the iSDT lipo discharger. Gadgets I absolutely love: TS100, AOK Cellmeter 8 with 150W discharging bulbs, Antennenfreund double quad goggle antenna, Vifly Finder 2, Ummagrip, Beitian BN220T GPS on all 5" quads.

I've put in a order for the TX16S the other day actually. I tried an xbox controller with velocidrone but I'm not a console gamer so I'm terrible with a controller. My thinking was the same as yours here too regarding getting other RC vehicles so I could justify the price. 140 euro for me with Hall gimbles

Then buy solder, flux, more props, more batteries, a gopro, a bettery TX, then you get into HD so you spend more on DJI air units and goggles, then you sell your dog for the DJI TX, then you start turning tricks for spare parts. But hell yeah it's great! :-D lol

Personal preference, but I would have recommended the DJI HD unit. Next level stuff.

Wish I heard about this when I was in Australia.
Bangood does not ship to Nz and we have 1 shop that will ship a drone and control for over $600 compare to other countries.

Hey all, I have been flying DJI photo drones in the past 6 years. I just came across your great video on FPV drone from under $300 2019. If I was looking to mix and match from that one to this one, could I still use the TX16S and the sky zones with the Nazgul5 then, at a later date add to 5-in drone? I am a good flyer, for more along the lines of driving Miss Daisy as opposed to Mario andretti. Thanks for the great content looking forward to viewing more

Awesome video, wondering if you could do a 2022 version?

It was uavfututers that got me started 4 years ago. Its amazing how much better & cheaper everything is since then.

Newbie here.. Still waiting on my gear to arrive in the next couple of days. Here's the kit I went with wanting to fly indoor and have some backyard fun while staying well under 250g in Canada. This kit came in under $800 including purchasing 6-8 batteries for each drone.
    BetaFPV Lite Radio 2
    Eachine Goggles Two
    Tinyhawk Freestyle 2
    Mobula 6 HD
I want to wait and see if I should pick up a Insta360 Go to mount on the Tinyhawk. Also waiting on an EMAX Interceptor to play around with. Recently got the RC bug again after trading my HPI SAVAGE XL Nitro for a newer brushless setup. My daughter seems to be really into it now that she's at age 7. Hoping that we can eventually go out flying together... Beats playing with Barbies.

Been flying fpv five years, heli's for 18. My go to's right now, QAV 210 4mm clone 2506 racestars 35A tattoo 4 in1 alien fc akk ultimate 1000mw. My other, tyro 79 emax 1507 hak 20A 4 in 1 stock f4 fc akk 600mw.
Better equipment is always worth it. No flip of death, lost signals or inconsistant behavior. I use an old vr pro box goggles because budget at first but found them to have great reception, comfort and a DVR so they work for me. Transmitter/receiver is a modded flysky i6 running 10 channel firmware and the fly14+ because it's small and light with rssi out and decent reception. That 16s is on the list as the next upgrade tho. So far nothing but good things about it. Curious about it's short comings.

Considering I had a fly off yesterday, I'd recommend spending the most on friggn components

Two months into fpv and over 1k invested I almost scrapped the whole idea because of an FrSky Q x7 Access radio with R9M module. What a nightmare. Slightly amusing this video existed and never came up in my feed after the countless hours spent researching Frsky’s binding process and firmware updates. “All you need is a Radiomaster, it will bind to anything!” FrSky radio is on its way back and now looking forward to my new Radiomaster tx16s w/crossfire module. Luckily I have a couple of whoops bound to beta flight controllers to keep me flying. Where were you when I started this adventure 🥺
