I love Fisk organs and we definitely should continue to build more eclectic and historically informed organs in the United States. An amazing, passionate demonstration by Stefan! I can tell he is very proud of this instrument.
This is an exceptional video. This is three old friends (one is a pipe organ and it's builder). People talking about organs in a way that would normally be only heard in a classroom. Remarkable. Then go behind the organ and see how it all works. This is an incredible machine that make s wonderful noise and has a lot to teach.
This is your best yet, Brent! Absolutely brilliant demonstration by Stefan, and great to have Michael Kraft make an appearance as well.

I love it! Just like visiting with both of you in person. Neat to hear the (IMO needed) changes to the construction as of late. It's a lovely organ in person with so many amazing colors. Tremendous to think that Fisk made something this eclectic 30 years ago!

Glad to see any organ demonstration, but I particularly enjoy the 20s and 30s era.
Fisk is hands down one of the better organ builders of this generation. Their voicing is just incredible and the craftsmanship you can tell is top notch. This was a great demonstration Brett. I hope while you were down in Texas you maybe will have a demonstration for us of a certain Fisk in Houston 😉

This is an excellent video of a remarkable organ that I've enjoyed hearing in person several times over the years and which I even got to spend some time informally playing once! A colleague of mine is Organist at University Park UMC there in Dallas with the amazing Kern organ. I was hoping that organ would be included in this video series, but when you announced at the end of this video that the Fisk Op. 101 would be the last Dallas organ featured for now, I was bummed!

Not directly related to this video but so many churches are getting away from classical or even electronic organs and are going to acoustic instrument. I miss a good, old fashioned, POWERFUL organ. A guitar and drums just doesn't cut it.
I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who finds this instrument a bit overbearing in the room. My history at Caruth goes back to 1966, when I heard Bob Anderson play a fine concert there on the old Aeolian-Skinner (which was not a bad instrument--it even had fake tracker touch). I attended the anniversary concert for the Fisk recently and felt that most of the players were getting a sound out of the organ that was too loud and forced, even after the removal of the side walls on the Great and Positiv cases that Stefan describes. I wonder if the Caruth acoustic has changed since the early days. I know that originally the side wall louvers were designed to be adjustable to produce different acoustic environments, but I was told years ago that this mechanism had been inoperable for a long time. Stefan gets a lot of nice softer sounds from the instrument in this demonstration--I wish I had heard more of them at the celebration.
It was a joy to hear all the reminiscences of the SMU alumni who spoke that day, and I was especially pleased with all the praises given to my old friend Larry Palmer, retired Professor of Harpsichord and Organ. Being back in Caruth also brought me back to 1978, when I first heard Gustav Leonhardt play there, and 1980, when he performed a concert there on my harpsichord.
I was also at that wonderful concert! I must agree that I found the organ to be just a bit too much in the room.
I believe that mine was the first organ lesson given on this instrument by Dr. Larry Palmer!❤
I had Stefan as my organ teacher at Westminster Choir College and he always has a sense of Joy. I’m glad he still has that quality. And the he’s at a school that treats him better and appreciates him so much.
Unfortunately, his outward sense of joy masks disturbing sociopathic tendencies. Look up the definition of a narcissist, as he fits this perfectly, and how Stefan has abused past female students.
