    Have you tried pouring water on the hard ground to drive your anchor in, soil around me is like cement but once you pour some water on it and let it soak in , once you get through the baked crust, and you can mix some piss with it to chase off the scent… love the no bs manner with your clip… well done… just glad you were not sucking on the fingers when the trap went off…😂😂😂 magic… keeping it real…

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  ปีที่แล้ว

      Even after 2 inches of rain it was still very hard. The ground there is very heavy clay content and holds water like a bucket. It needs to soak for weeks before it would get soft. And when you get a really wet season and it does get a good soak, you can’t drive a vehicle on it or you will disappear. 👍

    Hi Josh, I've been trawling my way thru and enjoying all your vids about protecting Native Wildlife from Invasive Species.
    When the ground is too hard for a Spike, are you able to attach it to a Metal Weight for a Drag? You could bury and hide this just like the Trap.
    Thick Plate-steel Plasma-cuts would be relatively cheap and readily available. Meanwhile - keep up the Good Work.

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey mate. Yes that would work but then it is extra weight I have to carry. Usually I can find a log good enough to use for a drag if I can’t drive a stake in.

    Lucky they are soft jaw traps. My grandfather did his hand over in the 60s trapping possums in NZ got a handful of stitchers.

    • @johnmead8437
      @johnmead8437 ปีที่แล้ว

      Must have been a good effort. The Lanes Ace traps (& similar) used then did have serrated, but not sharp jaws. They were powerful enough to break a small child's finger caught right (knew a man who had the kink to demonstrate that, & managed an own goal that certainly hurt), and caused more injuries to animals due to the jaws and trap design than the more recent double spring types, hence them being phased out and illegal in most situations.. However having never heard of seriously broken skin of anyone accidentally caught, the experience of needing stitches is very unique.

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  ปีที่แล้ว

      They aren't soft jaw traps. They are offset laminated.

    Potentially worth letting them go if a shot is uncertain at the start of a round in undisturbed country. Including if it's not likley to get all present.
    On other species having cleared traps twice (early night and next morning) and shot at the same time, some disturbed near traps seemed to stay away for days. Without using cameras etc to detect, that is speculation. They can check out a trap or pass by without leaving obvious sign. The dog can help interpret sometimes.
    With wild dogs it's likely spooking from humans really makes it difficult. One of the few direct experiences with wild dogs (they are rare here) was where a lot of time was spent, & the dog was only detected a couple of times. And it didn't disturb traplines while they were active, & no scavenged carcasses were found. It was only having a pup that detected scat that it's presence was known. & none of the cullers shot at it (or saw it), it was either pre programmed wary or just very human shy. Educating them (against humans) would seem to make it really difficult

    Hey mate, how do you rate the traps still ? I'm looking at getting a few traps as the property I hunt in North qld is quite scrubby, and usually, the dogs are too quick and hit the scrub before you get a chance to shoot them. I'm looking to get the wts size 3 3 pack they have atm for 200 dollars after watching your videos. Do you ever find size 3 is too small? The local gun shop suggested size 5, but I've only seen you use size 3. Also any suggested baits/lures. Would be keen to private message and learn a bit more if you have the time. Cheers

    • @intothenight1993
      @intothenight1993  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes i still love them. I don't feel the need to go bigger. The smaller ones are quicker as well. I've used the WTS #5 and they are a good trap too but can't really see much advantage having a slightly bigger trap if your trap placement is correct. And you have to dig a bigger hole for a bigger trap.
