Kingdom Hearts is the kind of series that has character development, emotional trauma, and heart-wrenching nostalgia built into its ingenious melodies. Never before have I seen a series that weaves its music so well with the overall emotions one feels during the game. And this arrangement is one of the most powerful things I have ever heard in regards to bringing those emotions to the surface. Absolutely incredible.

I honestly felt that the "emotional trauma" part was severely lacking, given the gravity of the characters' experiences. None of them really show any deep psychological scars, not to mention that the utter sorrow in the Keyblade War was really glossed over. I recognize that that sort of thing doesn't belong in a children's game, but I feel as though this shouldn't have been directed at children in the first place.

But it's a video game; that's what you expect, especially when half the story is told through text. What makes up for that is the artistic representation of those feelings through music and symbolism. That is what Kingdom Hearts has always done well at.

When you realize Sora means Sky in Japanese and the whole letter was a pun by Kairi and that's how Riku could tell the letter was for him at the end of KH2... THE FEELS, MAN!
Sora's sacrifice will always be one of my favourite moments in the series, and Hikari was the perfect song for it, perfectly complimenting what was happening: Kairi waking up and seeing Sora fading away, running towards him only to have him disappear the moment they touch made me shiver as a kid, and for a moment I truly believed the adventure was over. Donald screaming for Sora to come back made me realise that, even if he had been an ass to him, he truly cared for Sora and that they were truly friends. I would start the game just to hear this song play during the cinematic because of how much I loved it. When I first heard this version, I was a bit skeptical, but listening to it multiple times made me appreciate it more and more, and I started to understand the passion and love in this rendition, the same feelings I had when I first heard the original music: the piano was a fantastic choice, and making it a duet made me imagine Sora and Kairi sitting together on the Papuo tree, reunited at last. The bouncy effect around 0:30-1:45 is giving me a Final Fantasy 10 vibe. That one song, I think it was from Besaid Island. Nostalgia overload lol.
Kingdom hearts does have final fantasy characters in it like Tidus from Traverse town and Destiny Islands.
