- Months later and I've returned with the last video of this series! I put it off for so long because it was my first time watching the season 5 audio commentaries and I didn't want it to end. They're an absolute blast though and I'm happy I get to share them with everyone still tuning in. I'd definitely recommend watching the full commentaries if you can (especially for the last episode), I found them very cathartic as someone who finds the last season difficult to rewatch. I love this show a lot and I love this cast a lot, it's sad to think that it ended 10 years ago but it will always have a special place in my heart. As always there are subtitles, and I own all 5 boxsets now so if there's something from there that you'd like me to upload just let me know in the comments and I'll see about getting it done ☺︎

Katie makes a really good point about a scene where gwen comes to term with what she's done when she was under the influence of morgana's magic. Like not even that, since the main focus of the show is merlin, we always remember his tragedy and sorta skim through gwen's, y'know? Like first her father died. Then her best friend morgana turned totally evil. Then lancelot died. Then arthur exiled her while she lived under the guilt something she didn't even do. Then she had to go through the whole mandrake root deal..first getting tortured then being under it's influence and literally killing someone and trying to kill arthur too. Finally arthur dies and she has to shoulder on a huge responsibility and deal with the whole bringing magic back to camelot ordeal. I mean, the woman can't get a break.
Absolutely, she's rolling with the punches and never really holds a grudge with anyone for any of it. I would've loved if the show explored that more, she's truly a saint for putting up with it all and still coming out the other side being the most reasonable person in Camelot
I think Angel made the point of Gwen coming to terms with what she’d done under Morgana’s magic

Right?? When I was recording the earlier seasons I thought there was something wrong with my set up because the quality was so low, it's amazing how much things can change in only 5 years
the commentry is so off topic ususally and absolutely amazing
Bradley and Rupert started signing posters in the middle of the S5ep10 commentary, they paid attention to episode for like two minutes it's actually impressive

There's this theory that the Dragon actually took his revenge on Uther.. because everything Merlin did to save Arthur, from the start, ended in his downfall :)

I will absolutely never understand why they ended the show when they did...it wasn't an issue of it declining because it was quite the opposite imo,it was getting better and better. I am still waiting for a proper revelation scene of Merlin's magic where everyone is like 😱 but then they laugh about it and live together forever instead of DYING.

A new show called Atlantis got prioritized over Merlin so the funding was cut😐😐 what makes it worse is Atlantis only lasted a couple seasons because it wasn’t received well
@@cecropia_mothe2050 I remember watching Atlantis when it was coming out and then stopping a few episodes in because I could tell that they'd break my heart the same way they did with Merlin... maybe I'll have to revisit it soon, but it definitely didn't have the same heart and spark that Merlin carried. That being said I think the show was always going to end this way and that's the real shame
@@cecropia_mothe2050 I actually remember finding Atlantis promising as I first watched it. But soon I realised the flame,character and passion of both writing and acting teams wasn't there as it was with Merlin. Chemistry between the characters that either never happened or never developed properly (my main issue),a monotonous storyline and a hero that wasn't that relatable imo (yes,I did somehow find the wizard boy in a land of magic more relatable,kudos to Colin Morgan and the writers) were all a recipe for a generic tv show that would end soon...I don't get it
@@cecropia_mothe2050 Really? That's what happened? Aw, that makes it even more tragic. Merlin deserved so many more seasons, top quality storytelling. It breaks my heart how often good shows get canceled and not as good shows get the most seasons. Networks rarely know how to judge which shows are worth more seasons bc for them, it's just about money.
But the world of TV has changed much since Merlin aired. Streaming platforms are changing TV plus a lot of projects are now crowdfunded and successful that way, where the decision to make certain stories is given to the creators and fans, no longer the networks.
I really think Merlin could come back through crowdfunding, either as a continued TV show or turn the fan script script Season 6 into a crowdfunded audio drama (I hear Colin Morgan is great with VO acting so I think it's possible).
Just breaks my heart how such amazing shows don't get as many seasons as I think they deserve. We need more Merlin, but only the Merlin with Colin Morgan.

The best access for commentaries is to buy the DVDs. Though there is S1E10 commentary in full on TH-cam but it’s only the audio.

DVDs often offer another sound option for commentaries and this was the case with the _Merlin_ DVDs too

Very late reply but they recorded them some time in 2012 before the episodes aired

commentaries usually are recorded between post-production or airing the ep and release of the season on DVD - mostly within months of production
