I have one of these. I had it given to me some years back, in bits. I rebulit it. Sounds nice. Unfortunatly the flywheel has got pot metal disease, so I will be mechining a new one soon. You do know that apart from being a tape recorder it is also be used as an echo machine.
Hello. I have a Tape Recorder Grundig TK46 with bad Mechanics. What to do to make this Tape Recorder perform the Function of a Lamp Amplifier? Antanas from Vilnius, Lithuania
Wow, you seemed to have worked wonders with that machine! I just bought one yesterday with a broken belt, weak magic eye valve, and a whole lot of rust and gunk on the inside. It still powers up and seems like something is spinning inside there (although none of the rewind or ff functions work). I am a little scared of trying to repair it as I have no experience with such r2r players, nor with valves. What would you call the thicker belt that it in the middle of the player? With any hope, at least that will get the transport functions working. Thanks for this video btw! Cheers
Edward…………….. Are these expensive (in restored working condition) to buy. An elderly neighbour of mine wants to buy one, so she can listen to her late husbands voice. Her husband was into languages and had recorded on tapes like these, but sadly she hasn’t got a player. Steve
It all depends where you buy from, on ebay you can pay for a service where they transfer the reel to reel tapes to CD which could be the cheaper option
hello sorry to bother you. I would like to ask you a question. I have the same tape recorder as you but my problem is that on the 3 speeds they are in slow motion. yet I cleaned everything up, removed the old grease and put in the new grease. I cleaned the recording and playback heads but nothing helped. on the other hand at the back there are small circles that we can turn can you tell me if there are one or three that we can turn so that the engine runs faster thank you
Would you tell me what is the little silver button in the opposite side of the one that zeroes the counter for? I have one, I can't read German (and I didn't find a manual anyway). Also, it isn't fast forwarding although it has only one motor and the rewind works OK. Thanks.
if its fitted then when you press that button a little plastic bracket pops out with some felt pads, its a primitive tape cleaner that you can use to remove fluff etc from the tape, this can be pushed back and locked in place when not in use..

Oh yes I am very familiar with tape recorders! Yes this series of Grundig machines have the dreaded crumbling metal issues...

This sounds like the motor run capacitor/s are not working properly or there is some electrical fault..
