Outstanding! The 9th edition (2013) of ATLS Student Course Manual recommends using a 12- or 14-gauge, 8.5 cm over-the-needle catheter (p 59). Inchildren, it recommends a 16- to 18-gauge catheter (p 45).The manual further states: "The cannula is then connected to oxygen at 15 L/min (40 to 50 psi) with a Y-connector or a side hole cut in the tubing between the oxygen source and the plastic cannula (p 45)."
Got stuck in a situation like this... But trust me.. There was no time to find something to cut a hole.. And no time to match the ett connector with the right syringe..
Thank you for this useful demonstration. I have a question: Why do we only allow oxygen to be delivered for 1 second at a time? Would more oxygen not be beneficial?
Brother, dont you want to exhale. We allow oxygen for one second and allow exhalation for 4 seconds. As the flow rates are high, risk of barotrauma is there.

The DIY connector with side hole is fantastic !
I love the improvisation. I’m going to use this if goodness forbid I ever have to
Very clear and concise. The best demonstration I've seen. Thank you for sharing :-)
I also recommend 2 cc of NS in the syringe used to entre the trachea. This will aid, from bubbles, in determining when the lumen is entered.
You are great doctor , very clear
Excellent demonstration 👍👍
I find it very hard to locate the cricothyroid membrane

Can u elaborate how u managed the situation sir
Can we utilise a bag valve mask instead of the hole in the syringe?
Awesome! What is the O2 flow rate? Can you just connect a Jackson reeves instead of making a hole in the syringe connected? Thanks
Important things to know.
