      My guess is, if it wasn't for what happened with the Ignika, they would've had to use their combined energies in a way that would've transformed them into Turaga, similar to how the Toa Metru awoke the Matoran... :P

    I really enjoyed the "Phantoka" year(s) as I would call them. They were a legitimate dark fantasy with sci-fi elements. If ALL of Lego had continued in that style, I think it would of been interesting. Imagine if the Glatorian years took themselves serious.

    About a year ago, I accidentally took a graduate level class on theoretical Marxism. The one grade in the class was a 4000 word essay in which I had to shed new light upon something and analyze it for similarities to Marxist theories.
    I looked back upon my childhood and remembered the city of Metru Nui, and I realized that the matoran there lived in a society similar to Engel's proposed theory of a utopian society.
    So basically I deconstructed a children's toy to ace a graduate political theory class.
    Bionicle will forever live in our minds, our hearts, and our graduate level political theory papers.

      Makuta is a lot like Stalin, and the Matorans lived pretty horrible lives, excellent observation! Perhaps in an alternative Bionicle timeline an ex-vahki becomes president of the Metru Nui Federation and declares war on Mata Nui because they share a same heritage!

      no I loved it in grade three, my whole three/four class, did, if only it lasted more years, and so we could apprecitate the sets and the story, those sets are kinda fragile for grade three/four. Also absolultly loved knights kingdom, one of my favourite bionicle swords is the kings sword from that ip.

    Also didn't Greg Farshtey say once that his initial ending he intended for Bionicle involved Takanuva fufilling his destiny by engaging in and stopping a war caused by the great beings or something like that? That kind of gives me an idea for one possibility of how Bionicle might have ended and honestly that would be a fitting end for the story, with Takua, the first Matoran ever made and was in many ways the main character of 2001 by this point Takanuva and fufilling his destiny at the hypothetical intended end year for Bionicle by stopping the very people who made him and maybe even becoming a Turaga. To me that would be a satisfying ending but hey, giant planet sized robots duking it out for the fate of various races is pretty cool too to be honest

    Bionicle post 2010 story: the toa nuva become turaga, and the turaga Metru become village leaders on Spherus Magna, while the nuva take on the duty of training new warriors from the agori and matoran. The order of mata nui become part of a ruling counsel to deal with any possible internal and external threats to the world. The nui stone is found and placed in a fortress to be guarded by Brutaka. Meanwhile takanuva works with the remaining Av matoran to use the Great Spirit and Prototype robots as spare parts in making a new Metru Nui type city.
    Word breaks out that Brutaka has been overrun by a mysterious warrior lurking on Spherus Magna, and the Olmak had been stolen. Tahu and a new toa of Fire return to the ruins of Metru nui where they find a weak and feeble Dume huddled around the Vahi's resting place. Dume informs them of a final prophecy known only by the Great Beings themselves. Tahu takes the Vahi to Vakama, and asks him if the Ignika has resurfaced anywhere. Vakama reveals that the Ignika has created a new body, not one inhabited by the spirit of Mata Nui or Matoro or any of Jovan's team. It has developed a consciousness of its own.
    The new Toa Ignika arrives at the fire village and forcibly takes the Vahi from Tahu. But in the conflict the Vahi is damaged, and the toa proclaims that it was broken to begin with. Suddenly it's mask shifts to the Olmak and it again proclaims that 'Spherus will not be safe, not without a new mask of time, or a mask of creation.' Velieka emerges from out of nowhere claiming that the mask of creation no longer exists in any of the Mata Nui centered universes, it can only be found...
    'By seeking the unfamiliar within the familiar' Vakama finishes.
    Ignika nods, turning to Tahu and the others, then stopping on the great being disguised as a matoran. 'Then I will find a new mask of creation by force!' The Olmak comes to life, ripping a tear in the fabric of reality, and then activating the damaged Vahi. Tahu uses what energy he has left and pounces on the determined Ignika, the Vahi rips at Tahu's body, and the Olmak tempts to force the former spirit of fire into the new reality, and lastly, the Kanohi Ignika forcibly removes tahu's spirit from his body. The last words he hears from Turaga Vakama are 'Find the Olisi!' And Tahu blacks out.
    When he comes to; he is plummeting to the ground from a thousand miles upon miles in the sky. An island can be seen in the distance, and a shockwave of pure elemental energy rips across its landscape several times from a singular point at its center. The island, what Tahu presumes to be Mata Nui comes closer in less than a split second. And then Tahu crashes, right into the rocky surface of the north eastern segment of the island.
    He climbs from the crater he has just made, and he feels the surge of rejuvenation in his body. In the skies 5 colorful trails of smoke and energy roar across the void above. And again a shockwave is felt.
    'The foreseen day is upon us my children!' A voice calls. Tahu turns his head, the mask on his face crackles with heat, he brings his fingers to touch it, finding it hot enough to melt solid protodermis. But it is a hau, and Tahu breaths a sigh of relief. 'Where am I Vakama? Why is Mata Nui so different?'
    'Who is Vakama?' The elderly voice from before calls to Tahu.
    'Apologies elder, I know not where I am, is this the island of Mata Nui?'
    'Calm yourself Tahu, this is not the land for which you claim it to be. Welcome to Okoto, thank the Great Mask Makers you are here.'

    According to multiverse theory, there are an infinity of alternate timelines where Bionicle was never cancelled. This means that in each of them, all these possible endings played out. There's also one where Bionicle was a huge flop and only lasted a few months, and one where the 'Three Finger Island' concept for the Bohrok saga made the final cut. It just happens that we live in the timeline with the ending that we got.

      So with that theory in mind, does that mean there's a universe where Galidor was a best selling line and outlived Bionicle , Knights Kingdom and Exo-Force? That actually kind of scares me. XD
      But if there's really a universe where Bionicle got a TV show, that would be a universe I'd envy

    Well, with Bionicle 2015, it has sort of taken the new turn into a lighthearted feel, and I personally do not like it. I think it takes away the uniqueness of Bionicle, with a somewhat dark, but interesting and thus inviting tone. It now seems a lot like Chima or Ninjago. I hate to see what happens to this wonderful, long-lasting series.

    • @tadejmedved7070
      @tadejmedved7070 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Mark Kennedy Honestly, I believe that the tone Gen 2 of Bionicle is trying to set is similar to that of of Gen 1's early years, where it indeed had a more lighthearted feel (if you remember Le-Koro in MNOG, you'll know what I'm talking about), and in my opinion that's not a bad thing. I did in fact love the darker feel of later years, though I think it was Bionicle's early years that made it truly unique. I personally like the direction Bionicle 2015 is taking right now, though the villains should be more fleshed out (at least Makuta, who we've yet to see).

    • @MarioAtheonio
      @MarioAtheonio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lighthearted, but not childish. It felt human, 2015 felt like it was aimed towards toddlers.

  • @TheNewManiacFilms
    @TheNewManiacFilms 11 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Perhaps Bionicle could finally fully explore their expanded multiverse. We'd definately would've seen just what exactly happened to the Great Beings. Who knows? Maybe the Great Beings would've been a whole line of titans!
    There was still lots of loose ends to tie up. I'd think that one Makuta would appear. Complete Genocide (or Xenocide) is remarkably hard to do. As long as x amount of antidermis remains in existence, the Makuta race will go onward. And it wouldn't be too happy.
    Still, you have large armies of captured rahkshi, skrall, and skadki. They gave up becuase they're leaderless. Imagine if a lone Makuta would've risen from the ashes of the matoran universe to reclaim these armies? Lego probably would upgrade the soldiers though (most likely gravitating towards their silver and gold fetish).
    Still, we also have the ancient, Toa-killing machine on the loose, And the un-mutated Toa Hagah. And Toa Helryx. The Hagah would most likely have been their next set, if they did not plan to use the characters in "The Yesterday Quest."
    Still, as far as dimensions go, it'd be a prime example for Lego to incorporate space elements into their sets. You know how they love to customize their sets for any terrain :)
    One of the few accesories they haven't outfitted Bionicles with is space. These sets would probably gravitate more towards balance and stabilization (basically modified Mistika/Phantoka sets), most likely allowing the Toa to fly like a living spacecraft if necessary. Perhas we'd even have gotten a proper Toa jet-pack ;)
    And gosh, that Inika build would had to go.

      Greg Farshtey actually did write him in in some outside lore, including Federation of Fear and Destiny War. He winds up working with both the Order of Mata Nui and The Brotherhood of Makuta. In the end, he gets blasted with high concentrated energy and literally turns into an ever-changing dimensional gate.
      Ironic really. Check out the BIONICLE wiki to find the stories, they're a pretty good read!

  • @Thedarkassassin88
    @Thedarkassassin88 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I reckon (if they had continued it until 2020) the story could have gone something like this:
    From the Legend Reborn onwards, all the same stuff as 2010 still happens, they beat Makuta, his minions are forced to surrender (including the Skrall tribe) and peace returns. But then set it a couple years or so in the future, to some form of revolutionary change. The Matoron now finally gaining courage after Makuta's defeat force the Toa out of their place as protectors and guardians, some going on exile, becoming Turaga, disappearing, going AWOL or simply dying. This triggers a crisis where Makuta's minions, who previously surrendered, rise again slowly, trying to take back control (the Glatorian during this time possibly having the same fate as the Toa) and darkness is slowly creeping back in. This leads to a new, powerful enemy (maybe the Piraka leader who sided with Makuta) attempting to take control, or maybe even become a successor for Makuta. New heroes (or maybe one new Toa hero) are summoned to deal with this threat and build the Empire of Toa back up from the ground, find the rest who have gone missing and gain the trust of the Matoron once again.
    Anyway, that's just an idea I've been thinking on lately, and would honestly love to see, if it came in the form of a video game dedicated to the old fans or even a book series. Just my thoughts.

    I know, I was just saying that now Bionicle has "stopped", Greg can continue the storyline with no strings attached. The fact that it was made to promote a product affected the story in many ways, such as the ridiculous amount of character transformations (more forms, more sets).

  • @TaiWind

    I didn't even think about this before, but now I'm really salty, because there was so much potential for sets. The element lords, the dinosaurs, the Great Beings, Baterra, maybe half a year for sets based around the Yesterday Quest, that could have been fun. But nah, all we got was Stars, and then nothing. And then G2, but that has nothing to do with the old lore.

    • @malcomalexander9437

    First thing: I just wanted to say that you are awesome and I love this series, I found it very informative and it has answered a lot of the questions I had about why Bionicle ended.
    Second thing: While I do love Bionicle and miss it dearly, what you said near the end of your video about how if Bionicle were to be brought back it would probably be changed to appeal to a younger audience made me realize, I don't think I would like Bionicle brought back, I really enjoyed its darker tone and its expanded story, and I feel that if they brought it back differently it would shatter the way it sits in my mind.
    Third thing: While you said that part of the reason Bionicle ended due to lack of ideas but what if they had went back in the story and told parts of the tale that they didn't elaborate on before? (I recall they did that with the Tao Metru which explained where Turaga came from) What I mean is, what if they went back to when the Barraki and The Brotherhood of Makuta fought, or the adventures of Likhan and Nidhiki? Maybe even what the Toa Mata did before they stepped inside their canisters?

    One idea that I enjoy playing around with is having the Toa Mata/ Toa Nuva trapped in their Toa Kaita forms. This would allow them to play a more significant role in the continuing plot, while still allowing room from other main heroes. After 2003 the Toa Nuva are rarely seen or heard from until 2008 and the very end. Having Akamai and Wairuha around would give the Toa Nuva a chance to be more active in the continuing story, (Maybe as Titans sets as well) while giving fans an opportunity to see their old favorite heroes at a new angle. Obviously the Toa Nuva would eventually be able to turn back into their individual forms, but for a short while at least it would be interesting to see more of Akamai and Wairuha.
    Reply if you’re interested in hearing more.

    I sincerely believe that we would have had a proper ending, with the Agori exploring Bara Magna and giving us 8-10 years more of adventure on a new planet for us, a miserable desert plane, but which in its depths and caves, hid impressive history. Once we became attached to the Glatorians, I believe that Mata nui would have arrived and helped solve the problems slowly but surely. Besides that Mata nui would try to face Makuta in the best way with all his abilities, but possibly he would be attacked by Makuta who would have conquered all Aqua Magna, with the help of the Shadow to impose order, but in reality The Shadow would look for the way to rebel against Makuta and impose a dictatorship. So after 8 years of Bara Magna sets, we would have a new wave of toys based on two environments, some would be based in Mata nui collecting every resource and knowledge possible in Bota Magna, in order to defeat Makuta. While on the other side, we would have sets of revolutionary groups trying to overthrow the dictatorship and control of Makuta, with a depressing and miserable tone, but at the same time hopeful with all the beings of Aqua magna, villains included, looking for a way to confront the supreme evil and the yoke that overwhelms them all, Makuta. With all this, an epic and legendary conclusion would be given, Mata nui would descend from Bota magna, with all the resources at his disposal, while El sombrio would manage to take control of Aqua magna and try to make a dictatorship, but he would be convinced, little by little, not only to help himself, but to help everyone for the good. Everyone would unite against Makuta, from Bota magna, Mata nui and everything at his disposal. From Aqua magna all beings of the islands and from Bara magna, all Agori and all beings, including the Elemental Lords, would unite to kill Makuta once and for all. So Mata nui would get his giant robot suit and fight against Makuta in Bara magna while everyone, little by little, would be convinced to help Mata nui, seeing him as a savior. Everyone would join in and Makuta would bother and attack, while fighting with his brother Mata nui, Many would realize that Makuta had been tripped up and controlled by the shadows and therefore Mata nui would seek to convince him, to defeat the shadows inside him. Everyone, with their powers would support Mata nui, who with one blow and with the help of the Golden Skinned Being, would defeat the Makuta robot and get into his mind, where Mata nui would help his brother and together, they would defeat the shadows. With that, the defeated shadows would explode and the explosion would kill everyone, if it wasn't for our 2 brothers who would give their lives to save every being, while for the sacred battle the 3 planets would start to unite and on a collision course and in the end the brothers, once they had given their lives for everyone, would not die, but they would be very weak, therefore, as a last act of Valentia and search for Good, they would die so that everything could live. They would be remembered as heroes, as two beings who gave their lives for all. And in a bright future, but complicated to carry, everyone would collaborate for the good of all and thus avoid wars, in honor of Makuta and Mata nui who gave their lives, so that everyone could live in a better world. Throughout all this, the sets would have enormous quality and would perfectly portray the events in the history of the Bionicles.And therefore, our toa mata now Turaga, would tell all these events to the new generation of Bionicles, to improve a world with a better and new the shadowedAnd therefore, our toa mata now Turaga, would tell all these events to the new generation of Bionicles, to improve a world with a better and new shadow as a leader. And it will all end with the great beings, the human beings, visiting the Bionicles, to see the result of their cosmic experiment.

    Well the "Dino World" would likely be Bota-Magna as it would used in the sort of clean up stories that were released on BionicleStory.Com in the last years. I feel like if Bionicle never had an ending it would wind up with the writers in a box. I originally started to drift from Bionicle because it wasn't made clear to me about the giant Robot and the Matoran universe existing inside it. It was getting very complicated and that can be seen with the cliffhangers in the serials from BioStory.Com. The stuff about the Red Star malfunctioning, the fact that the Toa Nuva were separated, Tren Krom, Gelu's team on Bota Magna. I feel like the ending wouldn't have been giant robots, it would probably lead to Mata Nui and the Toa finding someone way of drawing Teridax out of the Mata Nui robot and into a more manageable form. They would find a way of defeating him but would be unable to finish him off due to their moral code and would either leave him in exile or imprison him once and for all. That's something that never sat well Teridax died... as in was killed by Mata Nui which goes against almost everything the Toa, (his protectors) stood for. And on top of this the Great Beings knew all of this was going on but did nothing to stop it. The Great Beings are the real villains of Bionicle Teridax was just the antagonist

    You have a good point. Hero Factory always seemed less serious and dark than Bionicle. Hero factory is more like a show aimed at 7 year olds were the good guys beat the bad guys and there, it's over. Were as Bionicle had more realism. Maybe lego was thinking Bionicle would get too dark and violent so they switched with Hero Factory. But like you said. We may never know.

      i think its because all of universals straight to dvd toy movies (barbie, monster high, which only had a little action and SUCKED) toned down the little action they had to almost none, but the 4th bionicle had its fair share of action and intriguing plot. i loved it. sadly, its the only bionicle movie i own. i wish MIRAMAX/Buena Vista (disney) would go back and do something with those movies, like sell them in stores again, or release them on blu ray.

    Maybe LEGO could still bring Bionicle back including Hero Factory eg the Heroes could find a portal to travel space and time and they come out the other side on Bara Magma before all the golden moc plates are found therefore changing the coarse of time opening a whole new series combined between the characters that traveled from Hero Factory and Bionicle

    That's a good point about how lego themes end when the line becomes less popular; the baddie takes over and the heroes get new armor and weapons to beat him down for good. That's how Ninjago Season 2 ended, and that season was meant to be the final one for the series until they realized it was popular enough to keep going.

    If I was in charge of making sets, instead of the Bionicle stars I would have made the Toa Nuva and Takanuva in about Phantoka/Mistika size with their original masks (and gold versions included) looking a bit more like their original forms. The antagonist sets would be new, upgraded Rahkshi.

    Mind doing an autopsy about the physics behind Matoran Universe? I somewhat get it but still don't get it. How is there an ocean inside the robot? How's the ocean beneath another ocean? How do the continents fit in and what happened to them and how did they fit when Mata Nui stood up? What happens to the ocean inside when he stands up? Where's the path in Mata Nui's face that lead to Metru Nui? And several more questions regarding the subject give me quite the headache the more I think about it.

    I really do understand, I wouldn't want something too easy, but for the sake of compromising of what Lego needs right now and also because one thing I always liked about Bionicle was it's unique look, Bionicle could make a whole new look that combines Hero Factory's and Bionicles old qualities. If it is not as complicated as Bionicle was, at least it's Bionicle, and hopefully it is as detailed as Bionicle was because details was always one of Bionicles qualities.

    I had an idea that kinda merged what happened in the canon to one of Varderan's suggestions for how Bionicle could have ended in that Mata Nui and Makuta did duke it out as robots but Mata Nui, while fighting, would telepathically tell the Toa Nuva and Takanuva to take down Teridax from the inside so he would get progressively weaker as the fight would go on. Just a thought*

    I have been thinking a long time about how I would have liked Bionicle to end, and my idea was somewhat similar to how it originally ended. A massive war breaks out both outside and inside the Mata Nui robot controlled by Makuta, but while Makuta and Mata Nui are fighting, Makuta gets overwhelmed by the sheer overload of overseeing an entire universe inside himself all while watching over the would outside and managing all of these things. Breaking down, Mata Nui realizes what is going on, and as Makuta's forces shut down Mata Nui signals everyone to stop. He enters Makuta's mind and the two don't fight, but instead Mata Nui, being the caring and compassionate world explorer and all around deity that he is consoles Makuta while Makuta realizes that what he wanted all along is too much for him to handle, and he begins to understand and have more respect for Mata Nui because he knows that he did all of this before, and Mata Nui brings in the concepts of the Three Virtues to Makuta again, stating how the Unity of everyone inside and out helps keep things working smoothly, while everyone performing their Duty allowed everyone to eventually reach their Destiny. Because Makuta sent against his Duty, his Destiny changed, and changed the Destiny for everyone else. Realizing what he has done and that he cant change what he has become, Mata Nui offers Makuta a second chance. Evacuating everyone to Bara Magna after he and Makuta reform the planet, they lay the robots down on the planet and leave them as well, taking the Mask of Time and bodies that the Mask of Life created for them, and Mata Nui takes Makuta on a journey to see what their world would have been like had Makuta not turned on him. The series would end with the inhabitants of the planet basically how they were at the end of the series normally, and Makuta and Mata Nui leaving together with a better connection and understanding.
    This could set up for multiple journeys for future series following the two or the ones left behind, and follow Makuta's redemption from the sort of Tragic Hero figure we see him to be. This could even set up another story for the sort-of Multiverse saga that Takanuva went through, where Mata Nui and Makuta could see a world where Makuta never attacked.

  • @TheTTVChannel
    @TheTTVChannel  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Possibly. The sets were already starting to become simple so I don't doubt they would have continued down that path. How exactly they would have become so is another question entirely. I doubt they would have adopted the ball-and-socket based build system, considering that was created specifically for use in HF and other constraction themes to differentiate them from BIONICLE. Factoring that out of the equation, however, I do believe BIONICLE would have continued down a path to simplification.

    I don't understand though, why not make a line of LEGO's for an older audience? I may be speaking for the minority here, but that's extra profit. And even if it's a little extra profit, they've got a lot already, the mechanical dinosaurs being one of them.
    That's some pretty easy profit if you ask me, and honestly the new ones aren't really going on anything, there's literally no villain, the badguys are little masks with claw pieces, and it looks like it was thrown together as a way to make Hero Factory look good.

Just fail, Mata Nui dies, the whole universe is plunged into chaos. Though, a lot of people probably wouldn't appreciate that ending.

    Something I noticed about the end was that the heroes never actually achieved their original goal (awakening Mata Nui). They sort of achieved it in 2008, but making Makuta win probably doesn't count. In fact, the story ends with Mata Nui going back into dormancy. It's a bit of an interesting contradiction how, in a story so focused on destiny, the message I walked away with is that, as Turaga Vakama said, "... our destinies are not written in stone. We have to find them for ourselves."

    Loved the Bionicle story and really wish Greg Farshey could/would continue it. When the story ended it seemed to be going into the beginning of a second major story arc with the toa finally going to meet their makers, the Great Beings. With the release of the toa killer Marendar and more powerful beings coming to light (Baterra, Annona, Artakha, the Fusion Beast, Gaardus, Kabura) it seemed like it was setting up to be some pretty insane conflicts and big moves.

    It's so funny, because my three favorite lines were Knight's Kingdom II, Exo-Force, and Bionicle, and all three were dropped, which was really disappointing when I was young. To this day, Exo-Force being cancelled is still incredibly disappointing. After all, Knight's Kingdom, as you said, did get a closed ending. Exo-Force was dropped before it could end, and Bionicle's ending was pretty rushed. Maybe I just have a thing for those storylines, with the upgrades and ultimate showdowns.

    I'm not sure why Bionicle stopped making movies as they were probably making more money than the toys (maybe that's why?) but with no movies being made there was no money being made and in turn it was too expensive to resume making the movies. They did eventually get enough money to make one last film but, as the films were just to accompany the toys, they jumped over a colossal chunk of story. The new film was received poorly the new line got a worse reception and Bionicle was abandoned. Hero factory then introduced a ridiculously fragile couple of pieces but was new and managed to stay alive long enough for the problem pieces to be fixed completely. The factory could be interpreted as the origin story for Bionicle (which is how I chose to look at it) which would imply that once hero factory is finished Bionicle will resume but how unlikely is that.
    I had the personal head story that since Matanui,Makuta and whoever's body Matanui hijacked in the final movie were all clearly part of a larger group, Makuta would flee the "final battle" to where the giants had originally come from and a group of six Toa Titans would form to fight a Makuta who was even larger than ever all whilst weaving through buildings and trying not to step on anyone. Makuta builds six giant horrors to fight the Toa Titans off and these are battled one by one on the wat to the place where all Bionicle were built. Ultimately though it isn't the six who destroy Makuta this time but one of the builders. All Bionicle in the building are destroyed... utterly. The builder looks like they regret what they did but turns and leaves. as the door slams closed the lights in the building turn red and Makuta's voice is heard once again.
    I came up with that after watching the original movie and every Bionicle line after I felt like the story was approaching that exact scenario but when they introduced the giant Toa bodies that Matanui and his kind had arrived on the planets in and I could feel my fiction become tangible... they cut it off. How dare they.
