I work as a basketmaker and send all kinds of unique baskets to my customers all over the world. For more details see my web site: www.hembrow.eu
In this video I make a basket for a modern delivery bike that I use to take my baskets to the post office. Wherever the customer lives, this is how their basket starts its journey to them.
I hope the video's not too long. I edited down from the nearly 3 hours it took to make this basket to get it under youtube's 10 minute limit.

Fun thing. I looked up your website to see if it was still in existence, and it looks like you've moved on from Somerset and basket making. Interesting what life brings....

Terrific, I just checked out your website, I'm going to obsess about this for many days I'm sure. For now I'm still commuting with a backpack like a sucker.
I'll bet this requires a good bit of muscle, especially the finishing. That speaks to the strength of these baskets!

I AGREE, TOO MANY STEPS ARE MISSING IN HIS PROCESS, BECAUSE, I ALSO, WANT TO LEARN THIS CRAFT.

I do not see how the sides and the bottom stay together to make it a functional basket.
Is there a step missing or is it made to only hold extremely light weight objects? Approximately how much can it hold? Could it hold a gallon of milk?
With gas prices and the condition of the economy I found this video to be extremely helpful. I appreciate your demonstration and hope to find some flexible branches to use to attempt this.

It’s hard to hear or see what you are doing while adding the side sticks.
Are you making it so the stick weaves through the bottom and then is angled up?

How do you tie of the ends of the first / bottom portion of the basket so that it does not unravel as you are constructing the sides?

So how many sticks did you add to the bottom part of your basket, everyone who makes baskets doesn't explain to the viewers how many sticks or stakes they use, that annoys me when you want to learn.

This basket has eight bottom sticks. Others that I've made have had between three and "lots" depending on their size and the thickness of material that I'm working with. Generally I keep the bottom sticks about 50 mm apart from each other. In this case they're a bit further apart because the material used was quite thick.

@@DavidHembrow How many stakes did you use for the sides please, I saw you put the corner stakes in but there's a bit missing where you put the side stakes in.
Also can you use wistera vines, I have heaps and it's choking the 💩 out of other trees I've got so instead of getting rid of the wisteria, I would rather use it for making baskets if possible.

This is complete, but a very rough attempt at basket making I have been making items professional for 28 years full time. Your cycle baskets on your dutch website seem very expensive to me I do not charge anything like your prices. You must be paying a fortune for your willow.
