My dad grew up in poverty in a family of 8. My family is very lucky to be in a better situation now, but these people wasting food makes my heart break. Imagine being in a situation where you can BARELY afford food and you see people doing this. I can’t believe the entitlement.

Yes, indeed. I grew up hungry. My mom swallowed her pride got on food stamps for a little while. We were embarrassed as kids to pay with booklets of Monopoly looking money at the time. After getting groceries we were happy, thankful and humbled to have dinner as a family with what we had.

The “expired” food that he claims the grocery store sends him isn’t actually technically expired, it’s still edible, it’s just not fresh enough for the shelves anymore. If that’s truly the food that he’s getting then that food would honestly be better off being donated to a shelter or food bank or soup kitchen. And while I can thankfully afford to eat, as someone who regardless has to penny pinch for groceries, this kind of content honestly makes me so uncomfortable. I cannot imagine ever being okay with wasting so much when in my mind I’m just trying to constantly calculate how much it would all cost.

This wasting food content on tiktok makes me furious. I’m in a family of three me, my brother, and my father and my mother left my father years ago. And having one underpaid parent taking care of two kids is super hard. My father doesn’t get paid very often and when he does we can really only afford a weeks worth of food. Sometimes I barely get anything to eat in a day and seeing these rich “influencers” wasting perfectly good looking food makes me so mad because there are so many people starving out in this world and people are just wasting pounds of food that could feed billions of people in this world.
It’s the same thing with big food companies like krispy cream that throw out food in the trash. Humanity is honestly going to end up killing themselves just by their selfishness. It’s a shame that humans really are just a waste of evolution and a threat to everything on earth.

These food wasting challenges have been around for years and show no signs of stopping. I remember a few years back ( on TH-cam) creators were filling tubs full of milk and cereal for 🤪 funny 🤪bath videos. Guava Juice took a bath in ramen, Colleen Ballinger took a bath in Spaghetti-Os, Good Mythical Morning took a bath in ranch - I could go on... Does anybody else have vivid memories of the rainbow milk challenge? I'm so disillusioned at this point. Super glad people are starting to call this behaviour out👍
I'm glad to. I'm involved in ministry and i get a lot of exposure to less privileged commuties. And the need for food is really still so big. And a little food can make people so happy. So it breaks my heart to see people use food as play-things.

Even the stuff that is considered "expired" and can't be sold in stores is still usually good for a little while. I work for a certain coffee chain and we haven't been able to donate the food that goes out each day since the start of covid (the people who picked up the food said they weren't allowed to anymore) so we split it amongst ourselves so it doesn't go to waste. I take home all kinds of "expired" stuff and put it in the freezer.
Wish this comment was getting more attention. Most stuff that is considered expired is the sell by date meaning it can't be sold but its fine for consumption meaning its fine for donation as well.

Even if the food _is_ expired, that's just the recommended _store_ shelf life. All of that "expired" food is likely perfectly fine and could be taken to shelters that accept expired food, where it will be used either that day or the next. I'm not usually one to virtue signal, but wasted food is one of the few things that gets my shoulders up. People are literally starving to death and it could _easily_ be fixed.
you should still listen to the recommended time limit because you dont know when it will expire
@@greghelmans9503 you’ll know by using three of your five senses. smell, taste and sight. the reason why there’s a sell by date is because most people don’t use their groceries as soon as they buy them. they usually sit for a few days, sometimes even longer. so it’s best to sell it as quickly as possible. that does not mean food bought after a sell by date is bad by any means unless it’s been an unreasonable amount of time.
i’m not saying completely ignore an expiration / sell by date, but don’t doubt your capabilities as a living being. most beings are very much able to tell if something is inedible or going bad. unless there’s something to prohibit that, it’s all down to intellect. it’s sad that most people don’t understand food and furthermore, consumerism.
Australia has an expiry date and best by date. The expiry date tells when the food will likely spoil or go bad. A best by date explains when the date the food will be good by. That can help me understand sometimes too.

Food waste literally makes me cry. I had to throw away some leftovers last week because we were traveling for a week and I SOBBED as I scraped food into the garbage. As someone who isn't as privileged, this really angers me. My family doesn't like wasting food since we can't afford to buy food every week. I have a big family and my mom is the only one who brings money to our home. I absolutely hate these tik toks, they irritate me so much.

In Germany, the name of these dates is "Mindesthaltbarkeitsdatum". This means it's "good at least !!!! Until that Day". At least !!! It's not: " Deadly after this day"

i just want to clarify that world hunger is not caused by a scarcity or lack of food. there is more than enough food in the world for everybody. the problem is that we live in an economic system that keeps vital resources from people who don't have enough special paper or points in their bank accounts.

It is literally not possible for all of the food that he uses for these videos to be expired. I usually hate when people say they’re kids starving but in this case they really are kids that you could just give that food to instead of wasting it for no reason. It’s amazing how privileged some people are.

As someone who has a family that is financially struggling to the point that we don't know if we're even gonna have enough food in the fridge for the rest of the weekend(not to mention for everyone), this sort of hurts to watch.

"Food grocery stores can't sell" DOES NOT mean expired! Grocery stores throw away perfectly good food all the time! At face value, it's better than buying new groceries, but they're still perfectly fine to eat.
Some "expired food" can still be eaten a month or even more afterwards. Like cereal or candy. I know a discount store who sold full sized name brand cereals, candies, and other dry foodstuffs for a dime an item.
There have been so many times in my life where I would crack open a gallon of milk a couple days after the expiration date and still be sipping on it, like, 2 weeks later and it would still be drinkable...

The thing with expiration dates, is that they only serve as a guideline as to how long the manufacturer can guarantee the freshness of the product, so while what dude uses is technically expired, it doesn't necessarily make it unsafe for consumption. I once had milk in my fridge for over a month past the date on the best before date and it was still perfectly fine. If the product hasn't changed in any way taste, colour,smell or consistency, then you can still use it/eat it and be totally fine

As someone who comes from a family who doesn't have alot of money, (we can get some luxury but only on special holidays, we can afford food(barely), and we have a house) but seeing this as someone who needs that food is heartbreaking and makes me so mad

This is why at my school we have a peace pantry. Basically, there’s a garden where they grow food and some people donate food and then on a day of the weekend, families who need it drive by and pick up the food.

Coming from a person who grew up from a poor family as a child, this really makes me feel sad and disgusted.
There are people in this world who STRUGGLE to even eat ONE meal in a day.
It seems that these people don’t know how the struggle really is, or even know the feeling of sleeping with a starving stomach at night.
Food is something we should respect and enjoy, not neglecting it nor wasting it when there are people in need.

I saw some heartbreaking footage of children in a third world country eating from the landfill. The food was rotten and another child told them to stop because it was rotten but the first child argued that they were too hungry. Seeing videos such as these makes me think about those children and how happy they would be to eat this “expired food”.
