Yes, indeed. I grew up hungry. My mom swallowed her pride got on food stamps for a little while. We were embarrassed as kids to pay with booklets of Monopoly looking money at the time. After getting groceries we were happy, thankful and humbled to have dinner as a family with what we had. Side note: Makes it worse. I don't think some of these ppl with $$$ are cleaning up themselves. I heard alot just call a maid. Makes me even more disgusted. Like going out to dinner knock the table over and say..What? My dad grew up in poverty in a family of 8. My family is very lucky to be in a better situation now, but these people wasting food makes my heart break. Imagine being in a situation where you can BARELY afford food and you see people doing this. I can’t believe the entitlement.

The “expired” food that he claims the grocery store sends him isn’t actually technically expired, it’s still edible, it’s just not fresh enough for the shelves anymore. If that’s truly the food that he’s getting then that food would honestly be better off being donated to a shelter or food bank or soup kitchen. And while I can thankfully afford to eat, as someone who regardless has to penny pinch for groceries, this kind of content honestly makes me so uncomfortable. I cannot imagine ever being okay with wasting so much when in my mind I’m just trying to constantly calculate how much it would all cost.

Even if the food _is_ expired, that's just the recommended _store_ shelf life. All of that "expired" food is likely perfectly fine and could be taken to shelters that accept expired food, where it will be used either that day or the next. I'm not usually one to virtue signal, but wasted food is one of the few things that gets my shoulders up. People are literally starving to death and it could _easily_ be fixed.
@@greghelmans9503 you’ll know by using three of your five senses. smell, taste and sight. the reason why there’s a sell by date is because most people don’t use their groceries as soon as they buy them. they usually sit for a few days, sometimes even longer. so it’s best to sell it as quickly as possible. that does not mean food bought after a sell by date is bad by any means unless it’s been an unreasonable amount of time. i’m not saying completely ignore an expiration / sell by date, but don’t doubt your capabilities as a living being. most beings are very much able to tell if something is inedible or going bad. unless there’s something to prohibit that, it’s all down to intellect. it’s sad that most people don’t understand food and furthermore, consumerism.
Australia has an expiry date and best by date. The expiry date tells when the food will likely spoil or go bad. A best by date explains when the date the food will be good by. That can help me understand sometimes too.

This annoys me so much because when i was young, i grew up in a family where i wasn't to waste food. Seeing these people wasting all this food that could last for months or even years is just very frustrating to watch.
These food wasting challenges have been around for years and show no signs of stopping. I remember a few years back ( on TH-cam) creators were filling tubs full of milk and cereal for 🤪 funny 🤪bath videos. Guava Juice took a bath in ramen, Colleen Ballinger took a bath in Spaghetti-Os, Good Mythical Morning took a bath in ranch - I could go on... Does anybody else have vivid memories of the rainbow milk challenge? I'm so disillusioned at this point. Super glad people are starting to call this behaviour out👍
I'm glad to. I'm involved in ministry and i get a lot of exposure to less privileged commuties. And the need for food is really still so big. And a little food can make people so happy. So it breaks my heart to see people use food as play-things.

This wasting food content on tiktok makes me furious. I’m in a family of three me, my brother, and my father and my mother left my father years ago. And having one underpaid parent taking care of two kids is super hard. My father doesn’t get paid very often and when he does we can really only afford a weeks worth of food. Sometimes I barely get anything to eat in a day and seeing these rich “influencers” wasting perfectly good looking food makes me so mad because there are so many people starving out in this world and people are just wasting pounds of food that could feed billions of people in this world. It’s the same thing with big food companies like krispy cream that throw out food in the trash. Humanity is honestly going to end up killing themselves just by their selfishness. It’s a shame that humans really are just a waste of evolution and a threat to everything on earth.

As someone who isn't as privileged, this really angers me. My family doesn't like wasting food since we can't afford to buy food every week. I have a big family and my mom is the only one who brings money to our home. I absolutely hate these tik toks, they irritate me so much.

As someone who comes from a family who doesn't have alot of money, (we can get some luxury but only on special holidays, we can afford food(barely), and we have a house) but seeing this as someone who needs that food is heartbreaking and makes me so mad
This is why at my school we have a peace pantry. Basically, there’s a garden where they grow food and some people donate food and then on a day of the weekend, families who need it drive by and pick up the food.
It is literally not possible for all of the food that he uses for these videos to be expired. I usually hate when people say they’re kids starving but in this case they really are kids that you could just give that food to instead of wasting it for no reason. In Germany, the name of these dates is "Mindesthaltbarkeitsdatum". This means it's "good at least !!!! Until that Day". At least !!! It's not: " Deadly after this day"

The amount of times I've eaten frozen 2 month old expired turkey or 3 day old milk is more than you probably will ever buy it. You must have never been poor like that but I'll tell you the truth. I saw some heartbreaking footage of children in a third world country eating from the landfill. The food was rotten and another child told them to stop because it was rotten but the first child argued that they were too hungry. Seeing videos such as these makes me think about those children and how happy they would be to eat this “expired food”.

"Food grocery stores can't sell" DOES NOT mean expired! Grocery stores throw away perfectly good food all the time! At face value, it's better than buying new groceries, but they're still perfectly fine to eat.
Some "expired food" can still be eaten a month or even more afterwards. Like cereal or candy. I know a discount store who sold full sized name brand cereals, candies, and other dry foodstuffs for a dime an item.
There have been so many times in my life where I would crack open a gallon of milk a couple days after the expiration date and still be sipping on it, like, 2 weeks later and it would still be drinkable...
i just want to clarify that world hunger is not caused by a scarcity or lack of food. there is more than enough food in the world for everybody. the problem is that we live in an economic system that keeps vital resources from people who don't have enough special paper or points in their bank accounts.

I am from Africa. (Kenya) The gap between the poor and the rich is so huge. So 65% of the population is poor that means they have 0 access to food. I might add that most food that is “expired” is still safe to eat for a little bit (since the expiration date on many things is just a date the store has to sell it by) and can be donated to those who need it. There’s a program in my town that gives out food that passed its sell by date to anyone who signs up for the service.
The food is not expired, sell by date is not relevant for a consumer it is usually a use by date. Even charities aren’t even really allowed to sell food past it’s use by date since they could get sued if someone gets ill

It's disgusting honestly, just seeing this makes me so mad. My parents and grandparents didn't always have the option to be full so even now it's the same mentality. I once "hit" my father with a sandwich (on the wrist) and my parents immediately stopped me and told me off, the sandwich was fine but it doesn't matter because food is a holy thing and you don't play with it. Same here. Both my parents starved in Mexico when they were kids. My dad even went to sleep starving multiple times and both he and my mom had to drop out of school at young ages and work long hours to put food on the table for my aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Nowadays growing up in a Catholic household, not a single scrap of food goes to waste. Seeing this food that could feed so many starving people go to waste is beyond sickening.

There's this place called Joshua Tree and my mom goes there once a week to get food. There's always pretty expired food there that's just on the brink of "not okay" to eat and so many people would appreciate this food they waste. Hell I would appreciate it. Grocery store expired isn’t always inedible. My step dad used to go around to small businesses and grocery stores and get their “expired food” in mass quantities for free and have huge cookouts in poorer neighborhoods, and donate extra food to the families. (He’s an angel he even got clowns and face painters to volunteer to come in.) I love him so I’m bragging on him but the point is this “undisclosed company” could be donating that food!!! 😒

I remember when I was a kid, my parents would say things like, "If you throw out that unfinished fried chicken, it will come back to you in Mahsyar for wasting food." and it really made me scared. Now that I'm an adult, I'm grateful my parents taught me this because not only they are warning about the afterlife, but they are trying to point out that others might not have got anything to eat at all.

My dad grew up in poverty in a family of 8. My family is very lucky to be in a better situation now, but these people wasting food makes my heart break. Imagine being in a situation where you can BARELY afford food and you see people doing this. I can’t believe the entitlement.

The “expired” food that he claims the grocery store sends him isn’t actually technically expired, it’s still edible, it’s just not fresh enough for the shelves anymore. If that’s truly the food that he’s getting then that food would honestly be better off being donated to a shelter or food bank or soup kitchen. And while I can thankfully afford to eat, as someone who regardless has to penny pinch for groceries, this kind of content honestly makes me so uncomfortable. I cannot imagine ever being okay with wasting so much when in my mind I’m just trying to constantly calculate how much it would all cost.

Even if the food _is_ expired, that's just the recommended _store_ shelf life. All of that "expired" food is likely perfectly fine and could be taken to shelters that accept expired food, where it will be used either that day or the next. I'm not usually one to virtue signal, but wasted food is one of the few things that gets my shoulders up. People are literally starving to death and it could _easily_ be fixed.

@@greghelmans9503 you’ll know by using three of your five senses. smell, taste and sight. the reason why there’s a sell by date is because most people don’t use their groceries as soon as they buy them. they usually sit for a few days, sometimes even longer. so it’s best to sell it as quickly as possible. that does not mean food bought after a sell by date is bad by any means unless it’s been an unreasonable amount of time.
i’m not saying completely ignore an expiration / sell by date, but don’t doubt your capabilities as a living being. most beings are very much able to tell if something is inedible or going bad. unless there’s something to prohibit that, it’s all down to intellect. it’s sad that most people don’t understand food and furthermore, consumerism.
Australia has an expiry date and best by date. The expiry date tells when the food will likely spoil or go bad. A best by date explains when the date the food will be good by. That can help me understand sometimes too.

These food wasting challenges have been around for years and show no signs of stopping. I remember a few years back ( on TH-cam) creators were filling tubs full of milk and cereal for 🤪 funny 🤪bath videos. This wasting food content on tiktok makes me furious. I’m in a family of three me, my brother, and my father and my mother left my father years ago. And having one underpaid parent taking care of two kids is super hard. My father doesn’t get paid very often and when he does we can really only afford a weeks worth of food. Sometimes I barely get anything to eat in a day and seeing these rich “influencers” wasting perfectly good looking food makes me so mad because there are so many people starving out in this world and people are just wasting pounds of food that could feed billions of people in this world.

The food was rotten and another child told them to stop because it was rotten but the first child argued that they were too hungry. "Food grocery stores can't sell" DOES NOT mean expired! Grocery stores throw away perfectly good food all the time! At face value, it's better than buying new groceries, but they're still perfectly fine to eat.
Some "expired food" can still be eaten a month or even more afterwards. Like cereal or candy. I know a discount store who sold full sized name brand cereals, candies, and other dry foodstuffs for a dime an item.
There have been so many times in my life where I would crack open a gallon of milk a couple days after the expiration date and still be sipping on it, like, 2 weeks later and it would still be drinkable...

I might add that most food that is “expired” is still safe to eat for a little bit (since the expiration date on many things is just a date the store has to sell it by) and can be donated to those who need it. There’s a program in my town that gives out food that passed its sell by date to anyone who signs up for the service.
The food is not expired, sell by date is not relevant for a consumer it is usually a use by date. Even charities aren’t even really allowed to sell food past it’s use by date since they could get sued if someone gets ill

OMG. I literally have to skip through the TikToks bc watching the food being wasted and spread everywhere hurts me so much. My household taught me to respect the food and the time that went into it. It makes me sick knowing that these people are being excused for their behavior bc “they spent their own money on it”. I completely agree with Courtney that it takes a while to hit this point. The privilege hurts me and so does all that money spent on food that could have been donated to children in Yemen or the Middle East where they are struggling of hunger. 😔

It's disgusting honestly, just seeing this makes me so mad. My parents and grandparents didn't always have the option to be full so even now it's the same mentality. I once "hit" my father with a sandwich (on the wrist) and my parents immediately stopped me and told me off, the sandwich was fine but it doesn't matter because food is a holy thing and you don't play with it. Always finishing the food off the table and always asking a container for leftover food in restaurants.

Same here. Both my parents starved in Mexico when they were kids. My dad even went to sleep starving multiple times and both he and my mom had to drop out of school at young ages and work long hours to put food on the table for my aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Nowadays growing up in a Catholic household, not a single scrap of food goes to waste. Seeing this food that could feed so many starving people go to waste is beyond sickening.

There's this place called Joshua Tree and my mom goes there once a week to get food. There's always pretty expired food there that's just on the brink of "not okay" to eat and so many people would appreciate this food they waste. Hell I would appreciate it. I'm 15 and has learned to appreciate food yet these 18+ year old's can't? They're privileged. Just yeet the whole damn app. It's ruining lives.
Grocery store expired isn’t always inedible. My step dad used to go around to small businesses and grocery stores and get their “expired food” in mass quantities for free and have huge cookouts in poorer neighborhoods, and donate extra food to the families. (He’s an angel he even got clowns and face painters to volunteer to come in.) I love him so I’m bragging on him but the point is this “undisclosed company” could be donating that food!!! 😒

As a Muslim and growing up learning to be grateful for all the food (and everything in general) that I have and never waste it, this makes me so angry as they are just WASTING all this food for clout 😑😒 people are really out there struggling to eat anything in their day and then there’s these people- 😔
I remember when I was a kid, my parents would say things like, "If you throw out that unfinished fried chicken, it will come back to you in Mahsyar for wasting food." and it really made me scared. Now that I'm an adult, I'm grateful my parents taught me this because not only they are warning about the afterlife, but they are trying to point out that others might not have got anything to eat at all.
