In the art museum there are several paintings by: Piet Mondriaan. - Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan : 7 March 1872 - 1 February 1944), known after 1906 as Piet Mondrian , was a Dutch painter and art theoretician who is regarded as one of the greatest artists of the 20th century. He was one of the pioneers of 20th-century abstract art, as he changed his artistic direction from figurative painting to an increasingly abstract style, until he reached a point where his artistic vocabulary was reduced to simple geometric elements. - Especially his later geometric-abstract work with the characteristic horizontal and vertical lines and primary color planes in red, yellow and blue is world famous. Victory Boogie Woogie (1942-44) is his last work. -Victory Boogie Woogie was acquired in 1998 by the Stichting Nationaal Fonds Kunstbezit through a gift from De Nederlandsche Bank and donated to the State of the Netherlands, as a visible reminder of the period 1814-2002 when De Nederlandsche Bank was responsible for the guilder as a means of payment. Since then it has been on long-term loan to the Kunstmuseum Den Haag and forms the crowning glory of the largest Mondrian collection in the world.
I work at the Panorama Mesdag. And it's even better in real life. And all of us who work there love to tell people all about it. You sometimes have to ask us only one question and we will give you a whole guided tour🤭 Sorry😊

But I was born in Scheveningen, so you can call me a "schollekop".... (which translates to plaice head...). From my 10th up to 25 I lived in The Hague and now I live east of Rotterdam. (I als lived in Groningen and Drenthe, but somehow I left those provinces). So I still am from Scheveningen ... That won't change!
The Hague houses both the International Court of Justice, which resolves 'issues' between countries as ths International Criminal Court which tries dictators and war criminals. The Hague is my home town.
They made a movie about that girl in the painting by Johannes Vermeer, "the girl with the pearl earring" (2003) with Scarlett Johansson in the title role.
9:20 so did the French 😂 (really!). The Dutch Republic's flag was the first so-called 'tricolour', inspiring many more flags. Like Luxembourg, Croatia many others.
Den Haag is the second name of the city, originally it is ‘s Gravenhage. Literally meaning the count’s hedge. Hedge used to mean wood or forest in early Dutch and the count is the count of Holland, the biggest and most important province, so influential that they split it in a North Holland and South Holland province. The Hague is not only the seat of the national government, parliament and High Court, although not the national capital, but also the provincial capital of South Holland. Amsterdam is the national capital and situated in the province of North Holland but the provincial capital is Haarlem. The national broadcast center is in Hilversum in the province of North Holland, the national bank DNB has its HQ in Amsterdam. The national railway company NS has its HQ in the city of Utrecht in the province of Utrecht. And there are more examples. We Dutch like to divide power, not concentrate it in one place.
Although there are nicer cities than The Hague in the Netherlands, it is certainly much better than Amsterdam, or '020' as we call it. The people in The Hague are also friendlier, but that goes for all people outside of 020. Personally I like Utrecht, Rotterdam, Leiden and Delft more and there are many more places (Dordrecht, Gouda, Haarlem, Maastricht) in the Netherlands which are worth a visit instead of Amsterdam. If you want to tell the folks back home that you have been to "Amsterdam", just take the train to Amsterdam Central Station, walk out and walk right back in and take the next train out of Amsterdam to anywhere 🙂
@paul1234191 I have a feeling you are projecting a lot on to my comment. I think Amsterdammers are great and Amsterdam is a lovely city. I said I am grateful that they are (seemingly) willing to deal with the stress and stupidity of tourists. And that was it.
She didn't, not even close. And the women in the video also pronounced it wrong. Americans wanting to know how something is pronounced, don't listen to other Americans pronouncing it. Just go to Google translate, select Dutch as language, fill in "Den Haag" and let Google translate say it. Google gets it right most of the time.

Nice video of my town of birth ..... The Hague, just one "complaint" ...... videoshots taken in a rush. Couldn't hardly keep up with the things she was showing. For me ...... all familiar images, for an outsider ...... hard/too fast to focus (in my opinion) what was presented.
Den Haag, the city I was born and raised. Went to school. Spent my childhood. Back then, it was a great city to grow up in. But it has changed over the years. Now I live in Germany. It's okay to visit my hometown, now and then. To my honest opinion, there are better, nicer places to live in, in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
This is my birthplace. I now live around Den Haag. Have fun with my lost city. Lost to Islam and the rest of the World. We where the best city in the ‘70 ties and beginning ‘80 ties, then it all got uggly from that time on. Most people from the old places left to other places, and every new yearsevening there ar fights whit the police and special police units to control the new cittezens of my beautifull birthtown. What you see now is proppeganda for the toerists and potentiel expats. A little glitter over a amound of bullshit. Love you and Charley’s podcast. So come on overhere, and make Den Haag great again! ❤
The pronunciation of words by the "murican" chick is generally fine.. Except her pronunciation of the vowels like in "den haag" is maybe a bit short to my taste.

The The Hague parliament building is the oldest in the world (13th century) and is still in use as such.

You are great Amy.! Thanks for the great reactions.!
I know there was also a jenever museum where you could taste countless different jenevers. The staff liked it as well, so that it was quite cheerful.

Lol. Im okay with that
Mondriaan (of the coloured squares in the water) was a famous Dutch painter: just look him up and you will understand.

I live in Den Haag, not born here, but it’s my town. Best town in the world!
Same here. Born and raised Hagenees. I moved around the city quite a lot during my life. SocI know every part of it. I love my beautiful city.
Hagenees or Hagenaar? 😊 Yes, there is a difference!

Not true. The name Den Haag is older. Already in the 13th century it was known as Die Haghe. The name 's-Gravenhage originates in the 15h century.

@gerrylanter8109 Actually I am entirely grateful to the people of Amsterdam for suffering the tourists so we living in nice cities do not have to.
