Greetings from Singapore. I'm not sure how I found your channel.Several years ago I lived in Hull on Westbourne ave and my local was Pave. I'm looking at getting a similar boat to you. Love the alterations you are making. Keep the vid coming :)
Thank you very helpful it doesn't work i assume that s why they wired in that silly little work light but i can unwire that now I know it runs from the engine switch I can grab an LED light to put in there and run some new wires to the main panel. Future job as I'm going to add more light around the engine bay too due to the engine bay light being useless anyway 🤣
You don't have to do it all yourself there's always the option to pay others to do it, but then you're stuck to their time frames and it costs money. I'm impatient and from Yorkshire so neither of those are options for me. 😂
Great channel Dave, for aspiring boat owners (like myself) its good to see the kind of things that you are likely to need to do when you buy secondhand. It would be good to get some ideas of the costs involved if you can...
When i remember I'll put them in video but as I forgot. Tube of silicone £3 Brushed Aluminium vent £6 :) The teak cleaning stuff I think was about £50 when i bought it last year but it'll last me several boats so can't really come up with a price for that. Most things boat that are generic like this are more about time than anything else especially on older boats a lot of the parts are either scavenged domestics or there's a car equivalent. While modern boats especially from premium manufacturers are more bespoke they still scrape the barrel at times for example the helm air vents on the new Fairline Target 45GT are the air vents from a 2005 MG ZS. Think that was the video I saw them on recently on the MBY website I'd have to go and check but the point still stands if you can identify parts you can do stuff miles cheaper with just time and generic stuff.
Its a great starter boat, small enough to be easily manage and also solo handle but big enough to use it for an overnight or 2. Some people would argue smaller some people would argue larger but tbh I think its a great little starter boat and that's one of the primary reasons i bought it as my first boat too. They are getting a little long in the tooth these days though and most will need some measure of work doing to them to bring them up to scratch as like SJ she needed a little tlc and modernisation. Once you have it fully running and up to scratch though they are amazing boats, handle really well and easy to manoeuvre etc
@@derekmalcolm2491 2003 would be one of the last ones, 1350 hours is very high hour wise so i'd be wanting to see detailed service records. Make sure you pick the surveyor not the brokerage I believe Ian Lumley is well respected and knows sealines well. Make sure it goes out on a sea trial ideally with you onboard / driving if you can as well as a full mechanical and out of water survey.
@@derekmalcolm2491 if it's in Spain a few things to remember, vat will be due, it'll cost a few thousand to bring it back to the UK either fuel or on a truck. These things get badly UV damaged on the med. If you don't mind me asking how much is it, it could prove to be an exceptionally expensive boat if you're bringing it back.
Great videos.
Love the hard work your putting into the boat.
Glad you enjoy it!
Another brilliant video. Enjoying the journey with you. Keep the videos coming. All the best
👍

The cupboard light works off the ‘engine’ bay lighting switch on the main panel…or at least it does on my S28! Hopefully that’ll help you troubleshoot

Really helpful videos Dave. It's great to see real life as an owner - it should prepare me well !!!

Hi Dave
I’m currently looking at an S28 .
Do you think it’s a good starter boat ?
Thanks

It’s a 2003 with 1350 hours on it .
I’ll arrange the survey and fingers crossed it’ll be fine

The boat is in spain just now and had money spent on the engines etc but I’ll arrange the survey before jumping in .
