  • Dr. Elena Boto graduated in Physics from the Universidad Complutense in Madrid (Spain) in 2014, and has a Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of Nottingham. She is an award-winning researcher who has been working with next-generation human brain imaging since 2014. Her thesis was awarded the Institute of Physics' Medical Physics Group Ph.D. prize. Elena has been the lead author on many of the seminal papers which have led to the neuroscience community considering wearable technology as a viable alternative to the current state of the art. By the final year of her Ph.D., she had pioneered the construction of a unique wearable neuroimaging system that could record brain activity while a subject moves (Boto et al, Nature 2018); something unimaginable with conventional devices. Dr Boto is the Chief Technology Officer of Cerca Magnetics, a newly established company whose aim is to commercialise neuroimaging systems based on the research she has been involved in.
