Cool bananas boys.Huge Golf fan. Have a Citi 2001 with some kwaai rims 1.3 carb model. Just love driving these cars and have been for almost 30 years. Lot of the work I do with a buddy. Today we finished a mechanical overhaul of a 2001 Polo Classic 1.6. 3 Months of work. Car had been standing garaged for a long while so lots of work, wheel bearings, clutch, brakes, shocks, and gear linkage bushes. Good engine and a new gearbox in it. We kept finding more other stuff though. Coolant flushed 3x to get it clean and then realised the heater radiator is moer toe. Took the whole dash off and had an epic struggle with the steering wheel retaining nut that some monkey used locitite on. Then we find the pedal bracket has broken and needed to get that welded. Everything back on evertually with lots of weather strip in place of all the disintegrated sponge that keeps the dash from rattling. Dis 'n koue Kaap die jaar so lekker om die heater weer te he. Next we notice the one new back shock is leaking. Seems we got done in by the parts place. Remember the box was open when I bought it. We're just too honest. So we did that this morning. F decided we don't need the spring compresser to reassemble. I get to be a spring compresosr for a bit. "Net 'n bietjie meer " he says while my hand starts cramping. We still want to do the front brake disks but that is hardly a challenge. Damn now we see the oil cover seal is leaking. Well that can wait till we service her in a bit. Car drives sommer lekka but has these kak mini-mags. Will have to wait as the money has got scarce. My mate F and I decide we are old conservative farts and mostly like to keep our cars stock. Anyways thanks for the laughs. Polo is off to a talented young guy I met recently so rust around the front and back windows can be sorted and resprayed. Sure he'll find more bad news for us. Overall it's 50/50 if it is all worth it, but since the engine only had 150 000 on and someone looked after the car very well over the years I think were winning.
