I'm another one who is grateful for your TH-cam posting. When I got up this morning my wife said that there was no heat and the temperature was at 50 degrees with the outdoor being -1. The sensor had tripped. Knew just where to look for it. Press it in and everything is great. Spoke to my plumber and he said that it might have been a fluke that it had popped and that we would keep an eye on it in the future. Again thanks for the posting.

Thank you sir! The last few nights have been super cold even in sunny CA. Without a functioning heater, we've been bundling up in multiple layers! As the 1st step in troubleshooting, I first removed the filter. It has not been cleaned in awhile, and I thought this was the problem. However, the furnace would not start (even though the fan was blowing). Then, I tried self-diagnosing and saw the code 33, which became 13 after few minutes. I was simply gathering information to provide to the technician tomorrow. Then, I thought why not look up TH-cam, and found your video clip. Amazingly clear instructions. In my case, after resetting the switch, the problem got fixed! Much appreciated!🙏

Thanks!!! I pressed the reset switch on my sealed flame area and now Heat is blowing out of my Bryant 90plus furnace. You saved me a 10 day wait and a > $150 service plus parts. We had high winds for a couple of hours, my filter is new, and error code was 33. I am so Heat Happy. (Also, NEST thermostat said no power to Rh.)

You sir are an angel. It’s 40 degrees here in Chicago. No heat for 2 days, with two kids a big dog and an always cold wife you could see how this could be problematic. 33 error code, was originally 13. Swapped filthy filter (I’m a renter and didn’t even think to check it) and literally used a tooth brush to lightly brush the flame sensor and BINGO BANGO We got heat baby!!! Thanks man!!!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For making a clear, common sense, easy to follow video! I'm fairly handy with most things DIY. But the more electronics are built into devices, the more I find myself struggling. Had the same code here, but our furnace was starting up for a few minutes then shutting down and repeating - a short cycle. I had already changed out the flame sensor since that tends to go quickly on modern furnace units and I was still having the issue. I appreciate the insight to the sensor 'buttons' since I had no Idea what they were supposed to be doing. I checked all my connections and hit the reset buttons and fire it up again. Nothing. Well, it is a windy day here, but this issue had been going on for a week even when it wasn't windy. Then I noticed that the filter cover was whistling a lot. Then I decided to check on when I last replaced it. Two months has gone by when the usually last me three so I wasn't completely convinced, but you did mention a dirty filter could be the culprit. Sure enough! Popped out the old one - which was dirtier than I expected and put in a new and viola! No more 33 error code and the furnace ran perfectly. I suppose that running our gas fireplace more often this winter could be the cause of a shortened HVAC filter life span!
Thanks again for providing a simple, straight forward solution to try out before having to make an embarrassing to call to a service tech just to tell me I had a dirty filter or get talked into an unnecessary repair!

It’s incredible how the systems can quickly detect a slight lack or degrade in the ventilation traveling through.
Definitely a weight off your shoulders when you find out it was just a dirty filter. Again, thanks for sharing this Douglous.

Thank you! Right before a cold stretch I noticed our Bryant furnace was only blowing cold air. I watched your video and although the furnace is not the same model, the error codes were the same and I located the internal reset switch. Pressed it and WARM AIR! Now, to see if it trips again, but I also found I had installed the new filter backwards so maybe that was all it was. Thank you again

Thanks Michael! It worked for me to clear my code33.
Ff up question though and hoping to hear your thoughts about this.
Before my code 33, my exhaust vent had a noticeable strong burning smell. Also, random alarm of carbon monoxide near the furnace. Lastly when I put the furnace cover back on, code 33 happens again.
An hvac guys went to check and said the whole furnace needs replacement. Here in Toronto it's seems all hvac guys want to replace and no one repairs.
I'm wondering if this is just a thing that needs replacement, cleaned or checked, rather than replacing. Also, I notice my intake is not vented outside (not sure if this is a factor)
I have a Bryant P90. Thanks in advance.

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for watching, any update? Sorry to hear you’re experiencing furnace issues.
Code 33 is heavily related to airflow and ventilation. If furnace is experiencing lack of airflow, we need to focus on all the items that are tied to that aspect of operation.
      1. Remove filter and see if the furnace runs normally without a filter… if it does, immediately put your filter back in and move onto the next item.
      2. Install a new filter that is not high-end and expensive… In other words… install a five dollar filter that you can purchase from your local hardware store. Super advanced high-end filters installed into a furnace that’s not designed to operate with one can lead to this. A standard five dollar filter will be best.
      3. If that doesn’t work, take a look at the internal circular fan and blades inside your blower motor compartment. If it’s heavily dirty and has a large amount of dust buildup on it, it will need to be vacuumed and cleaned. Ensure furnace is 100% off prior to cleaning.
All that added weight to the internal fan blades will lower the airflow inside system and cause this as well. The more dust buildup on fan blades, the heavier the fan. This leads to blower motor having to overwork to spin fan which will overheat motor and give off burning odor.
      Let’s start there. 😎👍

  • @DrWenChannel

Is the model# of this Bryant furnace 925SA48080E17? Just curious. Also, does every Bryant furnace has such "manual reset" button? I was originally getting error code of 12, but after I cleaned the flame sensor and replaced the air filter, now I'm getting error code 33 (model# 925SA). What might be the cause of the issue? Thanks!

    • @DIYwithMichaelBorders
      @DIYwithMichaelBorders  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good morning ☕️
Any update? The model number is indeed the number (925SA48080E17).
The 33 fault code is standard with Bryant furnaces. Sometimes after replacing a part, the system will trigger a fault code (33 in your example) until it runs for 3-5 minutes.
During that time…it makes you think it’s not fixed however what it’s doing is actually performing a system reset/check and communicating with all sensors.
If all is good, it will start running as designed. Keep us posted.

Worked like a charm for my Bryant Furnace. Don't know what exactly caused it to throw the 33 error code but the reset worked. I had some reno going on and some of the vents might have been blocked or there was a snow storm just a day before it started throwing 33! Don't know exactly what caused it. But have to keep an eye out! Thanks for the video.

How much play should there be in the sensor's reset switch?

Me as well, I figure mine (which are seemingly working) have 1/8" or so? I tried pulling it further out with my fingers. Not sure if it was the 2 rollout sensors or the one above that (and below that other blower) but in either case, fixed in

I’m having issues with my furnace. I have it set to auto, it will start up fine but when it hits the set temperature and shuts off, after a while the temp drops and it starts up again I will get a code 33 and it will only blow cold air. Had a repair tech come out and he suggested I replace the temp sensor and mother board. Both of those were replaced. Btw brand new filter also.

Thanks for the reply. The 33 code refers to a lack of ventilation. When furnace is off, carefully remove filter. Inspect the internal filter chamber and if dirty..it’s best to clean it.
Allow your furnace to run momentarily without a filter, and if the furnace runs normal with no issues, then it is the filter or a dirty filter chamber that ultimately leads to heavy dust buildup on the internal fan blades.
Once this happens, the furnace won’t operate as designed until filter is replaced and filter chamber is cleaned.
Below is a video that you may find helpful as it gives you a better view of the inside of our furnace and our fan motor blades.

I'm getting this error constantly after a few minutes running. I've tried filter repalcement, all vents open and clear. Tried replacement limit switch.
Could dirty ducts cause this error?

Thanks for watching & welcome to the DIY Raptor Club. Dirty vents are unlikely. How do your burners look as they are running.
The burner flames are to be burned & directed in a straight-line & uninterrupted manner for proper safety & efficiency.
If your burners are acting sporadically & not flowing in a perfect straight line, your flame sensors will immediately turn off system to prevent fire.
Let’s start there, keep us posted, let’s get this figured out.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders thanks for your reply! The flames seem ok. I’ve trouble shot error 13 before, in this same furnace. The sensor did seem to be needing cleaning every year. I’ve also replaced the flame sensor. Now it’s actually going directly to error 33, and the limit sensor trips.
I’m about to clean the coil, which from my logic may also be blocking the air. They really do not look too dirty, but I’m running out of ideas. I’m trying to avoid a complete furnace replacement . Also, the limit sensor area does get hot and trips at 32.5c.
Regarding the flames, is there anything I can do about them?

Thanks for the reply & that’s a great idea. The little sensor probes get pretty dirty often. A cleaning may go a long way.

@@DIYwithMichaelBorders unfortunately cleaning the flame sensor did not work for this error. The limit sensor is doing its job correctly by tripping at 32.5 Celsius. The area is getting hot 🙁

Does system shut down if you remove filter? If so, the filter may need to be replaced or it’s installed against the flow of air.

Mostly good, I wish the clear/reset process would have been better documented. Every time I power mine back up(heat off) its still immediately requesting heat. Thermostat is set lower than the room temp and the heat is turned off. I flipped power off at the breaker for 5 minutes as well.

I’m having this problem but also not getting power to my nest thermostat. I’ve pushed both the reset buttons I can see on sensors...no dice still just constant blower with a 33 code.
I had dirty filters that have been replaced but doing so didn’t fix anything. Wondering if that limit switch needs to replaced. Checked the board and the fuse was fine.

Thanks for the update. That tells us that your limit switch is in its early stages of failure. It is now becoming intermittent and will need to be replaced sooner rather than later.
