Wow!!! You make it look easy. Thank you so much for taking the mystery away on "how to." I will begin practising on regular 2x4s until I can get better at it. I don't own any of the tools, but I'll get whatever I can afford to, as I learn. Thank you for your post, and inspiring me!
I have a very similar wheel off a ford tractor to restore, its around 1920 with an A-model engine. The centre is four spoke but cast iron with narrow ends and single screw holes and I want to go for wood. So you've given me a lot to think about. Thanks mate.
had I not witnessed the process, I would not think this was possible. In my eyes it was toast. Thank goodness DL did not have the same mindset as mine.
You're not supposed to cut joints, you're supposed to smoke them. Also, you should check out Matthias Wandel's channel, he'll streamline your woodworking considerably with plenty of hacks and tricks for joining wood together. You didn't need the chisel, you could have easily finished that entirely with the table saw.
I have made another video now with every stage of the process shown so you can see the cutting process on there: th-cam.com/video/Ofxw53cl6cE/w-d-xo.html
Excellent work, but for the sake of all things good and nice, wear gloves when working with wet epoxy! Once epoxy sensitivity kicks in, there's no more working with the stuff, it'll leave scars.

Awesome dude.
Very beautiful
How did you make the first rough cut? It appeared very smooth and regular like a guided cut.
I actually used a jigsaw for this :s I didn't have a bandsaw back then so it was quite a rough cut but just done slow and steadily!
What kind of wood and coating?
Hail Britannia,nice job!
Just Beautiful

Smoked joints, thats a new one on me! There are lots of segmented steering wheels with cut joints, it is quite common practice.
I would have liked to see how you cut the wheel
