- The epic sequel to our most popular documentary, ‘Inglorious Revolutions II: Act of Union’ explores the momentous events in the British Isles, Europe and across the globe that led to the creation of "Great Britain" and the Jacobite riposte, the risings of 1708, 1715 and 1719. Never before or since was there a greater chance of success in restoring the Catholic Stuarts to the Three Kingdoms than in the aftermath of the Union of 1707. To understand why, we must dive deep into the heady broth of power, politics, dynasty, religion, philosophy and colonialism that defined the turn of the 18th Century… and in which the key foundations of modern ‘British’ history were laid.
In “Part One: Descent (1690-1700)”, the first of three epic, jam-packed history films, we look at the major causal factors of the Act of Union: European geopolitics, the threat of a Second Stuart Restoration and the tragic, devastating folly of Darien, Scotland’s doomed bid for Empire.
This is the history of ‘Britain’ you weren’t taught in school.
Thanks for your patience and understanding over the last six months as I've worked hard on defining the key moments from an enormously dense period of history and presenting them in a way that’s (hopefully!) engaging, entertaining and accessible to all. I hope you enjoy the film.

• No history can be definitive and we are all contributing to a debate.
• Some may consider the carefully-researched historical information in the film incompatible with their beliefs. To those viewers I’d say that the film is doing exactly what it is meant to do.

Well worth the wait. Informative, insightful and entertaining. More detail than I’ve seen anywhere else on Darien which was an unexpected bonus, albeit quite a bleak and sobering chapter in our history. Kudos Sam, love your work and you deserve a much bigger audience.
That's extremely kind of you, thanks. It's good to hear Darien hit as intended, it wasn't pleasant to research but a key part of getting at why the Union occurred. It's just really sad. The unforgivable decision to send a second expedition was at least a case of corporate manslaughter.
@@UtopiaPlanitiaStudios Darien is just a tragic saga in our history. Poorly represented and exploited by the union driving the misguided attempt to develop our own colony and break the reliance on the oppressors.
The second colony attempt was a desperate act of hubris, but that doesn’t excuse the tragic negligence of the outcome and the ironic impact it had on strengthening the union.
Criminally under-rated amount of views for the sheer production quality
Just watched this amazing documentary, well done again it's a hard subject to make entertaining. Well done you managed that feat❤
Hello again...poll position for this one
