Okay so I was 12 when Carter II came out, I wasn't really into hip-hop then and never even really heard anyone mention it. Then when Carter 3 came out, everyone I knew went nuts and the "Wayne is the best rapper alive" statement was being made pretty often and I didn't really understand it- Carter 3 was good but I didn't really see it being THAT great. Well, since then, I've gotten very into hip-hop. I started with the classics - Wu, Jay-z, Tribe, J5, Nas, Outkast, Biggie etc. (Golden Age is still my preference) - and can get on board with some new school shit. But this album, which I really only first listened to very recently, is BY FAR one of the greatest hip hop records ever made IMO. Wayne absolutely murdered every track and every few seconds you have to rewind to really pick up on the nuance of the album. Carter II, Dedication/Dedication 2 and No Ceilings are enough material for me to confirm that, for a certain period in time, Wayne more than likely was the best rapper alive.
So real. The lyrics are true to the artist. I mean this is what I think of when I hear his name; the characterization of this delivery of these words was THE Lil Wayne, as he was, perfectly raw and seriously legitimate to his own name.
