John, you are my HERO!! I built a beautiful nightstand and was having so much trouble installing the drawer slides. For the life of me, I couldn't get them installed accurately so the soft close drawer slides would actually work. I looked all over You Tube for advise, I bought the Rockler jig and still, they just wouldn't work. Last Saturday afternoon in frustration, I had to walk away and clear my head. Then I came across this video and it clicked, I went back out to my shop, made your jig and voila, my drawers slide into my cabinet like "butter"!!! Thank you so much for this wonderful, simple, amazing and perfect jig. I LOVE IT!! Now, I am no longer intimidated about installing drawers. Bring them on, I have no fear!

Of all the "Drawer Slide" videos on TH-cam I chose yours because it was only 4 minutes and 14 seconds long. Other people's are upwards of ten and eleven minutes long. Ridiculous. If a person can't be concise and get their point across efficiently when making "How to" videos, then they shouldn't be making "How to" videos. Great job. Subbed.

This is basically what we did at my old job (building custom high-end kitchens & bathrooms). The boxes were cut by CNC, and the drawer slide locations (and hinge plate locations) were marked out by a teeny tiny hole from a bradpoint drill bit (mounted in the machine). For the drawer boxes, with our system they were always centered on 2" from the bottom, and we just used a marking gauge or a combination square to draw a line.

Well I have not, oddly enough, only made drawers for the shop work bench. No metal slides. Just 2x4 ‘s all the way around. Shallow for chisels and marking knives. I am now building a kitchen cabinet with five drawers and one large door equal to height of one bank of drawers. So I will be tuned in to your channel for drawer construction and drawer slide installation. Lee, Norway,Maine

I am working on kitchen soon and will use your jig idea to make things easier. Great video. I will have drawers with ball bearing sliders and also epoxy. Is there a suggestion for rear mount for epoxy mounts all the way in the rear. I think I can substitute with a notched piece of wood and attach to slide and also to rear mounting area of cabinet. I feel so much items to purchase for kitchen redesign for my wife and we love saving money both of us!!
We have 10 sets of epoxy slides and they did not come with rear mount pieces. We also have 10 sets of ball bearing slides also.

Nice template. I wish I had taken the time to make one of these when I bought my first home- it was built in the '50s and the cabinet slides were in bad shape. I ended up replacing the slides, but kept the faces because they were oak (painted oak, but nothing a little clean up couldn't fix).

What a simple but great idea... one idea for an upgrade however. If you drill a 1/2 " hole in the center of the jig a the T junction and draw a crosshair, you could use that to centre your jig with the center line on your cabinate.... make sense!.... You could also add a mini spirit level. Thanks for sharing

I enjoy your videos. A FYI. Having installed drawers myself and wondering why at times in spite of everything they sometimes just do not seem to slide as well. Well, I happened on a Technical Installation Sheet from Accuride ( 3832EC 4 important installation Tips). I always assumed that those holes on the drawer slide could alll be used for mounting screws. But not so. Those tabs are called " breathing tabs" and one only wants to use the hole at the ends of the tab. If one uses the other holes the slide is mounted too firmly to the drawer and does not allow for variances in construction. I hope my explanation makes sense. Unfortunately I think manufacturers of drawer slides assume we are all professional cabinet makers and do not always make it easy for the hobbyist.

Hi thanks for the helpful video. I need a custom single flatbed drawer that would be used for keeping tools while working at my workshop. But the problem I am having is I don’t have any side support where I can mount the slides. Only option I have is to mount the slide just underneath of the main cabinet and use the top side of flatbed to mount against the drawer. Weight on the flatbed drawer could be upto 25-30kg. Can the flatbed handle this weight when top-mounted like this? Thanks
