That's a wire cutter(dull blades) mark on that transistor leg if it's anything because it looks like it was crushed until the last bit snapped. Also you can see flux on those capacitor solder joints. Someone was in there before you opened it up.

Yeah it does look like that doesn't it, just perplexed what has caused the damage to the board in front of the transistor

@@FixitAde Someone probably couldn't get their crappy wire cutters in there to do the job without hitting the board, most likely.

Perhaps you should have replaced the mica insulator to stop the transistor shorting on the heat sink?

Yes, that's what's keeps electronics running. The white smoke. And once it evaporates they stop working.

21:57 oh nooooooo 😭Its also my greatest fear when i do work on amplifiers
My caps in my SA7800 unit 4x 8000uf ones 50v and they measure about 7000-7100uf and 0.01 something ESR, so theyre ok, but my voltage side power supply for preamplifier and etc, those capacitors were cooked pretty much. The unit is 45year old.

You put the capacitor for negative rail in the wrong position. Please check the previous position from the old capacitor. It's right in you movie at 4:55 and compare it with the final 21:40.

Do your best on this amp, mate. It is really good sounding amp with high sensitivity speakers. They won 5 star on Whathifi with good reason. Don't dismiss it as junk for it is not.

On-KEY-Oh, it means 'the sound' in Japanese. I sold it in the late 80s and it's usually good quality stuff.
