    Put one of these in my 86 f150 last summer. Nice to have the od and not beat up the motor on the highway.

      I might end up putting this in my F250, even with EFI, the C6 has it screaming at highway speeds.

    WOW in short pants you the man,,, what a beast... i worked in junk yards most of my life getting parts for me only and laid in glass and oil but never in short pants... Haha...

      LOL as hot as it gets here, it's a hard choice to make. I do comb the yard looking for loose carpet for a makeshift floor most of the time.

    i would ask someone if i could use a 3/4 socket when they walk by , most mechanic will let you for a min or two... not a problem i loan out a tool many times in wrecking yards. we all work together in those yards at least that what i have found in the years i was growing up in wrecking yards looking for parts ....

      There are instances I've had to loan out a tool, couple times helping pull something, it does suck making that trip only to find you don't have what you need to pull the part all the way out, I've lost out on other transmissions in the past because of that....

    Improvising: working under a truck supported by 4 rims on top of 4 more rims. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video: catching the trans with your stomach was the greatest shot! This is a positive comment: very entertaining the whole video. Appropriate swearing just to get the important points across.

      Gotta show the reality of the junkyard experience 😆😆😆

    you would have to change out the rear end gears too. gong from standard to auto transmission i would think to the other way, the auto are taller gears...

    i have 2 snap-on flywheel holders to hold that flywheel from moving just a great tool to have...

      I'd have to look into that, it's always a pain trying to hold the engine stationary to break a lot of those bolts...

    Having to pull my M5 after a shop (somehow) fucked up putting the clutch hydraulic line back in. Long story short I got it back and it blew back out around the time I got home. Guy said the slave cylinder was fine (it wasn't)
    I've got a front driveshaft and Tcase to worry about, but this helped cover the basics at least. Good luck to ya man.

      Did you end up getting the clutch working again? I’ve had so many problems over the years with my slave and master cylinder, and getting it all bled right.

    5:00 - 5:01 LOL , what I needed most was HOW & WITH WHAT to remove the crossmember but you left that out : (

    What size are all the bolts you took out, aka what tools/sockets are required

    Is this a good transmission? Or do they tend to have lots of problems?

    • @TheImprovisationCenter
      @TheImprovisationCenter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure of the long term track record of this transmission but the biggest thing is that it opens up the option for an overdrive manual for any SBF truck, a win/win. Other than the occasional clutch hardware replacement, a manual will last a lot longer than an automatic. Automatics wear out even with proper care while most manuals can last damn near forever.

      great transmission i got over 218K on mine never had a problem yet ... just change the oil every 50k and thats it...

      i have an 05 f150 with this transmission. its definitely a truck transmission and isnt designed to bang gears but i enjoy using it just fine. no issues so far, 140k-ish miles

    dude I need the cross member for the trans? where are you at?

    • @TheImprovisationCenter
      @TheImprovisationCenter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone else got it before me....I needed it for the FMT build. I ended up having to "modify" the original transmission mount to accommodate the 5spd.

    • @REVNUMANEWBERN
      @REVNUMANEWBERN 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheImprovisationCenter 4:18 looks like the cross member is there, WHAT'S holding the back of the trans up??

    • @TheImprovisationCenter
      @TheImprovisationCenter  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @REVNUMANEWBERN After I pulled the crossmember the transmission was hanging by the back of the engine and once the last bolt was removed I was bearing the weight of it after knocking it free and working it to the ground "carefully".

    A video for how not to pull a transmission and how not to talk to strangers. No offer friend. Happy wrenching

      @TheImprovisationCenter  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you think you can pull one without the use of jacks or any other equipment not allowed by the salvage yard by yourself feel free to make a video to show how to do it

    You chose a bad camera position for the work under the truck. I couldn't see enough to tell what you were doing. It would have been better from rear to front instead of front to reary.
