  • Enjoy our live Monday Night Travel party with this video recorded on July 17, 2023.
Shaped like a giant wedge of quiche, magical Provence delights with dramatic scenery, an arid climate, adorable villages, and oceans of vineyards. Join tour guide and guidebook coauthor Steve Smith as he takes us through bountiful Provence markets and shares this region's Impressionist heritage. We'll visit vital Aix-en-Provence, evocative Arles, medieval Avignon, and Roman Nimes - with a break to enjoy local wine - before hopping on a canoe to glide under 2000-year-old arches. Bring your favorite rosé or Côtes du Rhône for sun-splashed Provence! #RickSteves #MondayNightTravel

This is such a wonderful video that has helped us a great deal in our planning for June, 2024! Just ordered my book as well. Thank you, both!

Lisa makes a good point about car rental out of Avignon - OR - booking a tour in Avignon of the exquisite smaller towns in Provence. I did both and found the booked tour was better as the tour guide educated us on what we saw. If you drive, having Rick Steves' book at your side would give you that education.

Don’t forget the little Picasso Museum in Nîmes-at least I think it was in Nîmes. I forget what exactly they have, maybe some lithographs or etchings. I say a little museum because it doesn’t hold a lot but the artist of course is a giant in art history. We arrived on a Bastille Day, 2012 and could not get to our hotel near the arena because the streets were closed off. Our pension host was exhausted trying to find us in our car on the streets. The band celebrations and fireworks went on well past midnight.
