Thanks for the video. I always wondered about the price, and I’m sure it’s a cool fun experience. For that amount of money though, you could by a lot of the necessary equipment like a sewing machine to just start doing it yourself. As far as shoe design, and customizing shoes, there is an important difference. Shoe designers from brands such as Nike are trained INDUSTRIAL DESIGNERS , which many colleges offer degrees in, and that is a pretty clear path. Industrial Designers actually design the shoes from drawings, creating molds for the sole, and pattern making all for mass production and factory spec. Customized shoes are taking apart shoes and rebuilding them in reimagined aesthetics and materials such as the Shoe Surgeon does. Both are very cool paths to take, but very different in their approach.
Paying +$5000 for a class is insane. You get a shoe that isn’t perfect. All you’re really paying for are the materials, class, and knowledge. You can pay a bit more and just get a sneaker from them that is perfect. All of the free videos out there will easily get anyone to make their own sneaker. But SDCustoms is the only class I would take in order to have a hands-on, available teacher. Because not only do you pay that $5000 or more price tag, but you also have to pay for your hotel, travel, and food. Nah. A week to learn is all you need compared to an entire month.

Thanks for the insightful video. I’ve been wanting to take one of the Shoe Surgeon’s courses since 2019 but I couldn’t afford it. Then I would have to shell out at least another $1000 for flight, motel and Uber rides. Now that I think about I’m glad I’ve never paid to attend Dominic’s school. I’ll be looking at other alternatives to learn sneaker customization.
Actually no it’s not. Dom is self taught meaning he doesn’t know how to teach people the correct way to make shoes. Dom is a scammer and he’s conning people out of thousands of dollars.
hmm.. not sure if I fully agree with everything here. I don't think being self-taught means he doesn't know how to teach the 'correct' way, if there even is one. But do I believe that a shoe class is worth 5 grand? Well, that's up to you to decide as the customer.
@@konesmalonesActually there is a proper way to learn and that’s from a Cobbler. You don’t agree because you don’t know him personally. I’ve known him since high school and me, the quality of his shoes is garbage. He doesn’t even customize anymore, he has other people do it for him.
I took the class and was a big fan of it. Wrote a review on it on our blog. I think it’s worth it for any sneakerhead snkrmart.com/blog/shoe-surgeon-review
That's dope! I also loved the class, met some cool ppl and took away life-long lessons. I also just wanted to highlight some other resources for people who may not be able to afford taking a class w/ the shoe surgeon
