Sue Perkins is so fun, even when she's being serious and addressing important issues, you want to listen to her because she may present an unpleasant idea in a palatable way. I wish she were in the Media more! I truly feel she could help shift the paradigm of contientious living without having to ''Give Up'' anything, she's all about personal comfort, you can tell.
I already absolutely adored Sue, but when she made the point that if you kill something, you make as much use out of it as possible, I now love her even more.
Sue is so witty - I could listen to her musings for ages. She seems a bit uncomfortable around the scary 'mumsnet' type reporter though... as I would be.
We freeze fresh herbs, too. Buy some, wash them well and than leave them to dry really well. They need to be dry of any water. Lay them on a flat surface in a thin layer, over some kitchen towels and than pat dry them, too. Cut them in pieces, put them in freezer boxes, label the latter and put them in the freezer.
Yes, Sue is right, you can freeze smoked salmon, and it's fine. There is a note about not keeping bananas in the fridge. I find, if they are on the counter, flies gravitate toward it as it ripens -- so, I chill all bananas. Sue is great and humorous.
Might I ask why you voluntarily watch a youtube video of a comedian you do not like and place derogatory comments about said comedian in a place where clearly most of the commenters are fans, and then act condencendingly when someone insults you for it? Clearly you should have anticipated such a reaction and really, in my opinion it's only deserved for your insensitive comment.
They should've checked how she stores other things as well! A lot of people store bread improperly. Otherwise pretty good, Sue seems to have put some thought into how she stores food, which is genuinely a good thing.
If you're going away, spend a month eating your fridge contents. Take the money that you saved on groceries and stash it until you get back so you can restock your fridge. While one CAN freeze eggs and cheese, just don't. The eggs are barely acceptable for recipes and the cheese turns to rubber. Consume the things that you know don't freeze first and eat many odd meals that month. Source: an old woman who had a summer home that she left every November until April next. Mind you, I ate everything in the freezer too so that I could unplug the fridge. I also mix bits of plate scrapings in with the dog kibble, compost peelings/ rinds and put bones that I can't give the dog and tomato or mushroom based foods ( dog HATES them nasty fungi!) on the crow feeder. I cut the ends from my lettuces and celery and put them in a saucer of water on the sill. Free food!
If she eats salmon she's not a vegetarian. When I was in hospital for awhile they kept offering me fish as a vegetarian option. I was assured that some vegetarians eat fish. I pointed out that, by definition, that's incorrect. Why is it so hard for people to get their head around that? The clue's in the word vegetarian I'd have thought.
@ realisticHomeboy, wasting food is still bad. Most people don't realize their lives and income can change within weeks or months. What you waste today, you will regret tomorrow.
All good stuff but 2 quibbles: 1) bottom drawer of freezer was almost empty - uses more energy than a stuffed freezer. Just buy a load of day-old bread, etc 2) I do put most veg in the freezer but cut up ready for sauces, etc. Throw them in near the end & you won't see a difference (cuts cooking time too). I also freeze (destemmed) fresh herbs (no need to chop-just crumble straight from freezer) & use an (old) small icecube tray to make chopped garlic & fresh grated ginger cubes. Lecture ends!
TheNeonAngelk, Sue said when she's not doing Supersizers, she's a vegetarian, but obviously she's not religious about it. I also saw that she's on the latest edition of Just A Minute! It's a fun quiz show on BBC Radio 4. Except there's something amiss with my notebook and BBC player is not working right now, but just on my computer. I'll have to install the operating system again. As Winnie the Pooh said, "Oh bother."
Not throwing food away is in no way at all the same as taking cars off the road. Cars run on fossil fuel, which is en effect taking carbon that is stored deep underground and releasing it into the atmosphere as CO2 which causes the global temperature to rise due to the greenhouse effect. This is effectively a one way process. When plants grow, they build themselves by taking CO2 from the air, and using the carbon to build the cells that they are made of. If they go to landfill and rot, them some (not all) of that CO2 will be released back into the atmosphere, some will become part of the soil. This is a cyclic process. The overall amount of CO2 in the atmosphere over time remains the same. If you eat that food instead, then some of the food will pass through your digestive system and exit your body to follow a similar fate to that food that went to landfill. The rest will be absorbed into your body as fats and sugars and other nutrients. When your body uses the fats and sugars for energy, you breath out the carbon as CO2. Again this is a cyclic process and the overall amount of CO2 in the air remains the same. The only carbon footprint saving to not throwing away food is that overall a smaller amount of food needs to be grown and transported, so a reduction in the use of fossil fuels. You would have thought that an "ethical and green living expert" wound know and understand this.
I feel vindicated - which is odd - but I do. "If you're going to kill something, just give it the respect of eating it." I've being saying that for maaaaaaaaaaany years (albeit not as eloquently). It is the definitive summary of the principle which underlies - or should - the avoidance of food waste.
I totally understand! a person that eats fish/seafood is called a pescatarian. Vegetarians don't eat meat at all. Vegans don't anything of animal product. I do not get why that is so hard to understand.
Love sue perkins but these people don't know anything about food storage fridge or freezer. everything looked to be stored wrong. Of course fish can be frozen if it's vacuum packed. otherwise no.
I love sue perkins but I don't love the idea of this video, sticking a camera into a celeb's fridge and giving commentary on it is funny in a surreal way but it's not good.
OMG another green lie. 5.3 million tones of food wasted resulting in 20 million tons of co2. What do you think happens to all that food if it was eaten? It would result in about of 20 million tons of co2 and methane though the process of metabolism. However Sue is champ and i love her.
Top-notch intellectual jousting there from addictedtomybike: ad hominem attacks about my food hygiene. Nice. are you also going to tell me that, because I'm not a fan of The Perkins, I'm a smelly-belly who picks his nose and eats it?
I dunno. Stop wasting energy by producing dreadfully unhumorous sitcoms or reducing electricity usage by not appearing on panel shows which only suffer from your appearance?

Knappa22 yeah, her wit was a bit beyond this reporter. But any interview with Sue is worth a watch... even the contents of her fridge lol 😂
Sue is so adorable~! I wish we could get a full apartment tour (cuz I'm weird like that and enjoy seeing how other people live...)
"When an animal has died it's of imperative necessity that you make use of it."
Well said.

Yes, I'll take a tour of Sue Perkins' fridge, thank you very much.
Yes she does!!!!!!! Which makes me love her even more!
She's fantastic and besides really cute :)
Sue Perkins is very attractive.
"I was promised a sash". Love Sue
They should've checked how she stores other things as well! A lot of people store bread improperly.

I bloody love Sue Perkins ... she makes me wish I was a female.
Sue makes me wish I was a woman, I adore her.
love Sue💝

I think Sue is just as pretty as Nigella and they both come from Oxbridge!

mikelheron20 the inclusion of fish would make her a pescitarian
Why do you feel the need to be so pedantic...? When trying to sound clever goes wrong...
@@emilydiamond4712 that's the one, Pescatarian, same as myself. Love Sue Perkins 😊
@ realisticHomeboy, wasting food is still bad. Most people don't realize their lives and income can change within weeks or months. What you waste today, you will regret tomorrow.
You shouldn't just point to mysterious packages of frozen meat and say, "This is dog meat, yes?"
Where does this woman think food that's eaten goes? Does she think it disappears entirely? Moron.
But yes. Sue Perkins
I think the solution would be to eat less.
I just realised sue is left handed xD yay!
Tomatoes in the fridge lessons their flavor... Not that tomatoes today have much flavor... they've gone for looks rather than taste.

in the intro of the SS Giles says she's a part time vegetarian
0:55 Don't Know We
Sue is oddly hot even though she plays on the other team.
get in line!

I don’t throw away 5.3 million tons of food a year so it must be you.
Well done.. ;o)
I REALLY want her hoodie for some reason...
I love sue
That's it! More enthusiasm now!
I totally understand! a person that eats fish/seafood is called a pescatarian. Vegetarians don't eat meat at all. Vegans don't anything of animal product. I do not get why that is so hard to understand.
Sue kinda reminds of Emma Thompson
I was thinking the same thing
Multipack vacuum frozen fish and chicken parts definitely cut down on waste.
Why is Sue's freezer so empty? She must have had a clear out before they arrived.
Shes soooooo hot!
how is she a vegetarian when she ate meat like crazy on the Supersizers?
Search HOW TO JUST GET BY IN THE VOICE OVER BUSINESS to see Sue Perkins' meteoric (if not hysterical) "rise" to the "top!"
Why?
Love sue perkins but these people don't know anything about food storage fridge or freezer. everything looked to be stored wrong. Of course fish can be frozen if it's vacuum packed. otherwise no.
Again this woman... Didn't stand her in Mays Lego house can't stand her here.. sue is awesome thought
I love sue perkins but I don't love the idea of this video, sticking a camera into a celeb's fridge and giving commentary on it is funny in a surreal way but it's not good.
Yeah that one. She kept trying to build those lego chairs. and kept failing Building 1.01 Horrible whinny person!
is this video supposed to be informative? Just seems SO obvious to me - who doesn't know how to freeze?
Lol mainly swear words haha
baked beans on fried bread , much better than toast .

Or not making this futile shite?
Hmmm, I think their florting with each other, remember this is a U rated tv girls...
