  • The humble potato is known the world over. But native Peruvian varieties can look quite a bit different than most of us are used to. Some are red or blue, others are long and skinny. More then 4,500 potato varieties are grown in Peru. The wealth of varieties is a natural treasure that's worth preserving, especially in the face of climate change.

    Potatoes were domesticated by the Incan Empire and, after being conquered by Spain, was exported to Spain and it's former colonies. We owe South America a lot for their patatas.

      @@luchocabman6272 - well Spain did take a lot of our gold so they did screw us there but not with the potatoes. They took it to the old world which is how Ireland and other places got potatoes and other parts of the world as well such as the northern part of the American continent which is how the US would have potato crops years later. Thus the whole world can have our great food as well tho not as many varieties as we have.

    Ancient Choq'elas, Kaluyos, Puqinas, etc domesticated the modern potatoes around Lake Titicaca 8 millennia BC.
    The Tiwanacos took away into Andean South America.
    The Inca Civilisation was based in agriculture where potatoes were which rice are for Asian peoples.
    From north Argentine to south Columbia.

    what loving respect for food
    great report i wish systems could be managed to accommodate diversified industrial production i certainly respect an apple more that has a few insect bites then an apple with none.
    if we can recycle pure metal from complex mixtures of disposed parts then logically we can produce complex mixtures of edible food verities. do not give up work on the problem create the solution build the market make the technology and profit.

      Some of them might, they readapt peruvian potatoes to their climates. But yeah as a general rule peruvian potatoes grow in very specific micro-climate of the Andes.

    • @itslikethesamebutdifferent8020
      @itslikethesamebutdifferent8020 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s not accurate since Chile potatoes came from Peru. One can take a potato seed from the US and plant it in Ireland and say that potato comes from the US but in fact US potatoes, and all potatoes really, come from Peru.
