Rootpain was made in 2013 by a guy named Zygo who was banned from Doom forums because it. He tried coming back multiple times, from 2014 - 2018, getting banned nonstop until making a comeback in 2020 with a mod called Solace Dreams, and reused the level for the mod aswell. He made Rootpain because he wanted to make controversy in the community. Zygo, however is a interesting person. He never responded to critizism and when people asked him privately, he was aggressive or seemed crazy. However, it was thought that he made the mod because he himself was a abortion victim, or it is a message saying he wishes he was never born. His name also comes from Zygotite, a fertilelized sperm. It was all a troll though, and made the wad controversal to make a joke and cause flames. lmao. The fetus monster is named Zygo, named after the creator and has over 1,215,182,091 (Which can translate to Abortion if put through Hex) health, and cannot be killed by commands. You have to nonstop shoot it, and you will get a message saying "Congratulations. You have completed the abortion successfully" If you exit the game, it will say "Long live the unborn!" or "It will live..." Rootpain also can goto rootbain if you reverse the P, another word for Abortion. The player is described as a "Parasite" and if you type Give all, you will get "Mifapristone added", meaning it's a volentary abortion. The screams are from Mifapristone, where there can be extreme levels of pain when ingested. Lots of neat detail though.
First I tought it was a bad interaction with just ZDoom and the WAD, but when I saw that infinite autosave loop, I understand that it was meant to crash the game.

Gib mechanics work like that: if the enemy's health drops to negative of its spawn health it will be gibbed. For example the "Toymaker explorer" skin has only 1 hp so when it's health gets to -1 it gets gibbed. Pistol and chaingun deal between 5 and 15 damage in multiples of 5. Plasma gun deals between 5 and 40 damage in multiples of 5. Fist and chainsaw deal between 2 and 20 in multiples of 2. Both the super shotgun and normal shotgun shoots multiple pellets that deal 5 to 15 damage in multiples of 5, only difference is that shotgun shoots only 7 pellets and super shotgun shoots 20. BFG ball deals between 100 and 800 in multiples of 100. And a BFG tracer deals between 49 and 80 damage. (There are 40 BFG tracers). And the rocket launcher deals between 20 and 160 damage in multiples of 20 (including splash damage).
8:10 I'm beginning to suspect that the *BEEP!* is a trigger for a ZDooM Exit command. 19:18 Seems that I was correct, in a way; someone else stated that they saw a terminate command due to a wrong path trigger. *BEEP!* 20:40 Rootpain. When I think of the name, what the PWAD entails is not what comes to mind (root canal). ... I recall recently, someone else playing this with the DooM Clusterfuck mod. It took two to three dozen friendly legendary cyberdemons to end Zygo. That's how bonkerballs the 'bossfight' is.

the crashes in the first one are definitely intentional, as the original game it was based on also did this aswell. i watched a series of playthroughs of it around like, 2013-2014 and in pretty much every interaction/"ending" to the game it either crashed, froze, or just softlocked on a random still image forever until you closed out the game

The only reason mdk didn't kill the demon fetus thing is because MDK is a single hitscan trace that only does 1,000,000 damage - less than 1% of the entity's health
About "mdk" cheat don't working: it works not by killing anything the player is aiming at, but by dealing an insane amount of damage (10000000 if I recall correctly, WAY more than enough for vanilla monsters). But custom monsters, as you saw for yourself, may have even more health, which makes dealing with them hard even with "mdk" cheat. And as for "the concept of going inside the womb to take out a cursed fetus": it was featured in total conversion mode called "Solace dreams". The sign in the background of rootpain's titlemap is the Venus Mirror - symbol of female sex.

a idea: remake imscared in doom. - make a direct equivalent of original, whatever you have to do, like modify engine include it in the zip (binaries for each OS). - make some new stuff specifically with the use of doom gameplay and doom engine features.

ToyMaker is like the Windows 3D maze screensaver, but dark and constantly returns to the desktop whenever it feels like it.
MDK doesn't work because it only deals 1,000,000 damage. Zygo has 2,147,483,647 which is ZDoom's HP limit. You'll need to spam MDK to kill it.
