2008 Mag lite: i can almost see a tree
2023 LED lite: we have a wildfire
In all seriousness, I used to work at an aluminum plant 20 years ago where we made all of the Mag lite metal parts. They are extremely well made. They would refuse entire orders if they were off by ~5 thousandths of an inch or had any water spots on them or any defect at all. 5 thousandths of an inch is so small but they demanded that level of quality and received it.
There were situations where the loads get tarped to protect from the elements and then shipped to California for final processing but the bundles got wet along the way somehow. Those truck loads would be refused. If you've ever had a mag lite, you know the quality was good, especially in the 90s and 2000s. Now you know why they were expensive; They demanded the best quality throughout the entire journey.
We made the Little Giant Ladders (called Wing) metals as well. They didn't care if we sent them aluminum colored sand.
Not every company cares about quality but Maglica really did
Cool story! It’s a similar situation with Snap-on Tools’ quality control with steel shipments. If it was “compromised” in any way prior to the manufacturing process, that steel is refused and/or scrapped.
What this guy isn’t telling you, is that Mag Lite will out last that Chinese spot light by 50 years.
The mayor lived across the street from the chief of police. I hope the mirror up with a company that sold high-powered lasers. He bought a VERY STRONG infrared laser. He used a night vision scope to see the spot on the other side of the road we are the chief of police's house was and while he was sitting there drinking his coffee, the mayor set the garbage can next to him on fire with the laser but you couldn't see the beam.... He used his night vision to see the spot onto the trash can. Hahaha. They were always doing shit to each other.

But the thing is, the Maglite is also a baton if needed.
Yeah. I had a cop fracture the top of my left hand with one.
I was at a club that got raided by the sheriff's department is part of the Drug War because they got a tip about some people who were slinging in the club.
Everyone in the club was told to go stand outside while they were looking for the guy who was holding, so and most of us were just up against the wall while 50 of them filed in.
This one old asshole was walking by me pulled out his mag light and smacked the back of my hand as hard as he could because I my fingers in my pockets while we were waiting for them to finish their raid.
So a little background about this...
Before this night this Sheriff's Department used to have a policy of people being able to pay off duty cops to provide security at clubs and at private parties. I distinctly remember being at one once at a park that had been rented out and the cops who were providing security on the outside, would ask "Do you have any drugs knives or guns? No? Welcome to the party?".
The law enforcement and the people putting on the events and the venues had an understanding. The police would have their back turned to the inside and would be looking outside in the moment something happened they could turn and enter the establishment, in force.
It made us safe and greatly reduced incidents by being able to quickly defuse them.
The police were also very happy to be being paid twice sometimes three times or more their normal salary to be there as an off-duty officer and we as customers/guests were very happy for the presence of not just good security, but security backed by legal authority.
Somer Conservative folks in the Community didn't like this arrangement once they heard about it, and got the law in the county changed to where off-duty officers could no longer be paid to provide security services.
Those same cops had to start making up for the lost money someway, so like every other department in the US They decided to figure out how to pay for their now inflated salaries with proceeds from drug busts.
So back to this night at the club. Because of my prior experiences with them I was very trusting of the police officers and I welcomed their presence and felt comfortable with them.
Then a mag-light hit me, and the pain of reality got my attention.
There is a moral to this story somewhere.
The SR32 will probably atleast momentarily blind someone though (120k lumens Is a lot), giving you time to get away from someone. So one Is more offence while the other Is defence

@@gocardz6028 Or, carry a modern single 18650 cell LED flashlight that puts out a couple thousand lumens and fits comfortably inside your pocket, along with a concealed pistol preferably with another 1k lumen LED mounted to it. If you're in a situation where you can legally use a 6-cell Maglite flashlight as a striking baton, then you're also in a situation where you can dump several 124gr hollowpoints into your attacker's chest, the courts will lump both options into the same category, "deadly weapon". Call me crazy, but relying on your opponent not having a ranged weapon is just plain silly in this day and age, and very often the mere sight of said handgun will make the threat quickly rethink it's life choices and decide to _stop_ being a threat, thereby negating the need to even use a weapon in the first place, a pistol aimed at your chest or noggin is quite the incredible deterrent, much more so than someone weilding a long flashlight menacingly😂. Not to mention you don't have to sacrifice either striking or lighting your target for the other, with a pistol and LED light you can do both, much more efficiently.
Long story short, don't use a club with a light attached to it when you can use a firearm with a light attached to it...

An incandescent 4D Maglite was NOT the "world's brightest" in '08. It was a standard utility unit & police issue, more for its usefulness in also being ready to bop someone over the head with if necessary.
That is not a standard maglite, it is shown in the video it was a Mag 623. The number is the over driven aftermarket bulb it uses, powered by high drain lithium cells. The mag 623 is something like 20 times brighter than the stock light.
