No intention to harm the brand and model but I saw two brand new Veloz today towed by a truck from two different places in my area and I didn't see any physical damage.
Pretty much something to seriously consider if one plans to buy any of the two. Another detailed and in-depth review of AD, perfectly explained all the bits and pieces everyone must know about the subcompact MPV twins. Many people argue about why buy an Xpander or basically any other subcompact MPV when these two are supposedly "better". But apart from the somewhat off NVH, comfort surely is something that Caco refused to talk about much other than saying that both are similar to each other. Kinda noticed how the camera they used kinda does wiggle at times and makes it obvious whenever there's a random jolt that comes into the cabin, probably after hitting a pothole or any of these road imperfections. At the very least, both are well equipped for what they are but this review somehow gave us a clearer picture of the trade-offs we can get for opting for something that's too well-equipped for the price it asks: NVH, comfort and a bit of space. Yes, definitely a bargain for someone who just wants a no-frills MPV to bring the family or the besties for a trip or a good stroll and surely it'll be a good one for such purpose. But if someone does consider refinement, good interior space and a more sensible package, the XL7 and the Xpander (also the upcoming new Cross for sure) will be the way better choices out there, w/o a doubt.
Wait, there's a new cross coming out (apart from the other two variants already released)? In any case, problem sa Cross is that the line to get one is really long, so long that I opted to shortlist the Veloz instead

Such nice and helpful comparison with excellent sense of humor :D Just subscribed! Thank you very much, Caco! You did help me a lot differentiate the two models. I think I have my final decision now! Veloz is the best!
In my opinion, i really don't understand how toyota is able to convince people to buy the Veloz. Its like having an identity crisis in the line up. Right now, toyota has 3 7-seater vehicles with that engine - Rush, Avanza, Veloz. If you drive more on bad roads and offroad, then Rush is the better choice given the higher ground clearance and the rear wheel drive. Now, if you dwell more on better roads, then get the Avanza. Why bother getting a Veloz (a heavier vehicle) for the same engine? I mean, these 3 cars all have the "necessary safety features" a car would have - there is no compromise. Maybe, there are ppl who prefer those fancy toys and looks without minding the same engine in a bigger body. Well, Of the 3, Avanza is really the best positioned car for its price. A complete package that serves its role on practicality without compromising safety. If you can afford the Veloz V, go buy an Innova XE. Caco was 100% correct there. The difference in power and capability is night and day for some thousands pesos difference.
I was planning to get the Veluz but the LED lights are downers for me. As a driver, it is annoying and eye-straining to come across cars with LED lights at night
for me I would choose Ertiga for its price, the engine is much stronger because it has 1.5L engine, while the Avanza E M/T has a 1.3L engine, but the looks of the Avanza, the exterior & interior, is much better.

This review just strengthens my overall “questioning” of why the veloz was separated from the avanza line. Unless you really dig the exterior/interior of the Veloz, there’s just no point in getting the Veloz over an Avanza especially when the minimum price you have to add is 200k+, all for virtually (85%) the same specs, especially the engine/motor.
I think it has really more to do with the fact na there's a segment of the market that wants a Toyota 7-seater as compact and adequately-sized as the Avanza but does not want the Avanza per se. Whether we like it or not, Avanzas have a pang-taxi recall in many people's heads. At least the Veloz can open up a new market. It's all about marketing. Aand it's working.
@@CrossCuntyRic exactly. their marketing definitely works for the Veloz. my tita was just about to get the Suzuki XL7 when she stumbled upon a video of a review of the Veloz V. she changed her mind (literally) overnight. she said that the exterior looks chic.

I think that it's a bit pretentious, even ridiculous really for manufacturers to market something like a Veloz as an "SUV". Well, they're not the only ones. Same case as the XL7. It is marketed as such. I believe the bare minimum to be a "true SUV" are: a ladder frame chassis, capability to go 4x4, more than 200mm of ground clearance, and commensurate power to the vehicle's size or form factor IN AN OFF-ROAD SITUATION (if it's a 2x4 with a powerful engine or a small one like the Jimny). Going back to the comparo, same here, I'd rather get the Avanza. It's more unpretentious if you will, more true to its MPV roots. And seeing them side-by-side like this, I think it looks a bit better, tamer, design looks a bit more holistic overall. Missing features? Well, you've got everything that you "need" on the Avanza anyway. Although the Veloz can also make a case for itself with the added features.

I heard Toyota is about to take out the Rush from its line up. This could possibly be the reason why they had the Veloz a little upgrade from the Avanza. Just like the Mitsubishi's Expander and Expander Cross or Suzuki's Ertiga and XL7.
Why take out the Rush? It has the same engine with the Avanza. Sporty looks unlike the latter. There are so many Rush in Davao City but I don't know in Manila, which is why I'm curious on the reason.

they both look a little low, for their purpose and those tires are too tiny for it's size. just my opinion/first impression. Veloz look a more proper compact SUV between the two. insightful comparo though, great for referencing which is which when contemplating on buying.
My biggest disappointment in (our) Veloz is the storage/cup holder. Its sucks because you can only fit small cups even on the side doors (small bottles). you still have the Rush for this purpose, hope they don't make it FWD and CVT
@@mugzee84 toyota may have designed and marketed the rush as a semi mpv/suv, but once you sit inside the rush, it is most definitely not an mpv. More like a very low-end underpowered suv.
Apir! 2017 model here. Madali ipark and timeless ang exterior design IMO.
avanza is the Best..I tested long drive 9hrs..best in high hill and mud road..not a looks just performance..avanza is the best..
the veloz is literally an avanza…
Hi sir if you are going to choose between innova E dsl at and veloz 1.5 v cvt which one are you picking?
Which one did you get?
Please do comparo the Veloz and the stargazer?
My Fathers car is Veloz,
So I will probably go to Avanza G as my next vehicle. Thanks for the comparo.
The v..form at the each side in the side front was very sharp..I suggest if Toyota will modify it into a contour smoothly.
new veloz owner here
Easy if u have the money go for veloz if on budget get avanza
biggest complaint ko sa veloz is 1.) small windshield... when youre driving in the highway and need to be in alert mode, hirap. your view is really limited.
2.) the lack of front windshield defogger.
3.) lack of bottom engine covers
Bummed about them changing the new Avanza to a FWD unlike the older RWD models.
I really like the all new Avanza's looks. Like it's begging to be lowered or have skirts installed. It gives me those previous gen stanced Hiace club vibes. The Veloz on the other hand while having better interior looks like Chick Hicks from Cars with that moustache looking Buick Grand National grille 😆 IMO
off topic parang medyo husky yung voice mo sir caco.
I still prefer the Avanza
You sound like danny davito voice a little bit scratchy and im saying this cause i like it😄😇
Great review! Who's listening to Twice though? 😅
auto hold is a key feature that Veloz has over the Avanza
Hey Caco, I'm the one who called you while driving a BMW in EDSA. 😂😂😂 Nice seeing you in person.
Just want to ask, are you going to review that unit?? Coz, damn that unit is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
