- Conflict Law Centre's lawyer Ayesha Malik explains the two-day Courtside chats on how Israel responded to South Africa's plea at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
South Africa requested an urgent order to stop Israel's military operations in Rafah, citing concerns of genocide and humanitarian crisis, while Israel argued its offensive is crucial to defeating Hamas and denied allegations of genocide.
The ICJ held public hearings, with South Africa presenting its case and Israel responding, and will consider the arguments to deliver a decision on provisional measures to halt Israel's operations and ensure humanitarian access.

She did not mention that judge Nolte had questions for Israel about how they want to make sure humanitarian aid is being administered and delivered, particularly to one location. That too is a signal that the court is fed up with Israel's BS about aid getting in and being delivered where it's needed.

In order not to get awfully confused there are the following alternative scenarios under international humanitarian law:
A) legitimate violence for a legitimate purpose e.g. the fight of the Western Alliance to eradicate ISIS in Mosul;
B) the illegitimate use of violence for an illegitimate purpose e.g. the slaughter of innocent Ukrainian civilians at Bakhmut and Mariupol
C) the illegitimate use of violence for a legitimate purpose e.g. converting the fight against Hamas into a fight against the entire Palestinian population of Gaza
D) other scenarios
The Defense of the Israeli delegation throughout has been that the persecution of the war against Hamas does not come under alternative scenario B we agree
The question to be asked however does it come under alternative scenario C and secondly is the convention against genocide to be construed sufficiently broad to equally capture alternative scenario C under the Court's authority of prohibited forms of warfare

The legal team of Israel showed advocacy skills at a level similar to the diplomatic capabilities of their Ambassador to the UN.
They should awaken to the fact that they are not speaking with impunity either in untranslated Hebrew or to their US partners but to the world. The claim of antisemitism is only valid against a US and some Europeans.
