  • It’s 1891 and Oscar Wilde’s star is rising. His book, ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’, is a bestseller, and his first West End play is about to open. And then he meets Bosie Douglas, a young, handsome and beguiling poet. But homosexuality is illegal and they must keep their relationship secret. When Bosie’s father, the dogmatic Lord Queensberry, finds out, he resolves to do whatever it takes to keep them apart forever.

Disappointing to hear the promo for this podcast as Oscar being "British" when he was an Irishman.

Being an Irishman in England and achieving fame as an English writer, when many posh Englishmen with pretenses to literacy couldn't manage that, must have contributed to Oscar's plight. It was a rough time to be Irish anywhere back then, whether in London, New York, Boston or Australia. Add some angry, addled aristocrat with E.D. and a grudge and it must have been bloody hell.
