    Omg that's mh old bike, or at least the registration number... I'll never forget R504KWT... I owned that for around 7 years (as a 125cc...)
    I'm in Total shock 😎

    Hi Harry, alas, the bike has been sold to make way for a new project :) It looked great with the full fairing fitted and was lucky enough to win the best special award at the 2015 annual 2-stroke gathering! :)

    What alloy did u use for the frame swingarm, rear shock, and engine mountings?
    You plugged adaptars in the swingarm to fitt the aprilia swingarm bolt.
    Where are this adaptars from?
    would be cool if you can help me.

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the aluminium was 6061 grade. All spacers, plugs, adapters etc were hand made on my milling machine and lathe. The Zx6r rear shock was used because its fully adjustable, damped well for my style and I had one in my parts bin with a selection of race springs already to hand 😀

    I am impressed with the project, in Spain there are many who want to do this but nobody has managed before you could give small instructions on how you have adapted the rd350 engine to the aprilia rs 125 chassis, have you changed swingarm? you could put a list with the main changes

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, and thank you. The frame was extensively modified by cutting out the original engine mounts and welding in new ones. The rear shock mount was relocated and a ZX6R shock fitted, swingarm changed for a YZFR125. You can see the project pictures from start to finish complete with full fairing fitted here - s682.photobucket.com/user/fishbarf/library/Buildoff%20Bike%202014

    Very nice execution. I built a goofy little bike, it was a RS50 chassis that I put a YZ125 engine in- turned out good, but I didnt put the quality into it you did with this bike. In the end, I'd rather just ride the fuck out of a fast bike then build them now, so instead of fabrication videos I just make riding videos, but your bike here is probably the best build custom 2t I've yet seen. Great work.

    hey I have an aprilia rs 50 from 2009y. Just wanted to know is it possible to set an yamaha rd 350 ypvs machine in the chassis of rs ? any thoughts ?

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, anything is possible with time, money and effort. Probably not a wise decision though as the RS 50 frame isn't as well made as it's bigger brothers. The 125 chassis are cheap enough and well worth thinking about as long as you consider the chain being on the wrong side with standard swinging arm.

  • @deaneyre800
    @deaneyre800 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    What's the swingarm off? I want to do this conversion but rs125 is right hand chain drive not left!

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the swinger causes a problem. I put a modified yzfr125 in the back but you have to change shock mount positions on the frame also

  • @ricardo1687
    @ricardo1687 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    hello my friend
    i am right about now to do the same conversion . what swingarm did you use ?was an easy converion?
    how is the bike riding now?

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the swingarm is from a YZFR125 but the conversion wasn't easy at all. The whole of the rear frame mountings for suspension and engine were cut away and re-positioned. The bike rode and handled very well though :)

    • @ricardo1687
      @ricardo1687 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thank you mate
      does it vibrate too much?

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It vibrates a little on tickover and low RPM due to the huge carbs unable to deliver fuel/air smoothly but once on the move, it isn't a problem at all

    Torque is much higher than stock. Can't it bend the frame or rear fork?

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Žilvinas Deveika -hi and thanks for the comments. the frame was braced around the swingarm pivot and side rails to eliminate flex from the additional power

    • @DEADmetal3
      @DEADmetal3 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why didn't you use RS 250 engine instead?

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Žilvinas Deveika -this was built for a competition and my idea was to mate an engine and frame from different manufacturers.

    • @DEADmetal3
      @DEADmetal3 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What were the technical problems? Was it hard to make the mounts? Is it aligned within factory spec? I was thinking of doing RS 250 engine swap for my RS 125, so i'm curious.

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There were many problems with this. Not least the swingarm as the 125 chain is on the opposite side. The modifications to suspension linkages and swingarm / swingarm pivot, frame etc were extensive. Wiring had to be done from scratch. Your problems will also be plenty but very different if using the RS250 motor. Have a go and don't give in! :)

      Hi, the aprilia bearings and end caps were put into the yam swingarm. Original aprilia spindle was used and custom spacers made to line things up.

    • @maxkatana.8555
      @maxkatana.8555 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      cool thanks for your fast answer.
      Did you change something on the front brake or fork?

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The front brake was fine with braided hose and sintered pads. Forks are a strange setup with one for damping and one for compression. It had a stiffer compression spring fitted and slightly heavier oil in both. They worked ok for road use and the little time it was on track

    • @stevenwilson9751
      @stevenwilson9751  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A note worthy of pointing out, the whole rear shock mount on the frame was cut out and relocated to the centre as the original is off to the right.
