The realization that Yumichika managed to reach one of the highest ranks in squad 11, the squad known as the strongest and most violent, while never fully releasing even his shikai is crazy.
It's heavily implied that without his true shikai, he was 3rd seat level, but that slot was taken by Ikkaku and he only chose 5th seat because he thought the character for 5 was more beautiful than the character for 4. Without even releasing his true shikai, he is debatably lieutenant level, as I personally consider Squad 11's personel ranking to typically be a bump above the other squads.
Fun fact: The reason there's a huge jump in animation quality (and added scenes) in the anime version of the Hisagi Findorr fight, is that the original anime's director Noriyuki Abe was just a giant Hisagi fanboy.

Izuru laments that "violence should only bring despair", but Kenpachi LOVES fighting, not killing but the act of violence between different sides. We could expand this with stuff like Hollow Ichigo's instinct speech vs Ichigo's desire for agency or Yamamoto commenting on the world's justice while Zommari had screamed about why Shinigami get to decide how things work, but I think I made my point. It's just a cool detail implemented in a really fun way.
Something interesting about Izuru's zanpakuto: When asked about the bankai of Shinigami who haven't achieved it, Kubo said Izuru's would be nauseating to design. With how messed up Izuru's shikai already is, I'd imagine his potential bankai would up Bleach's age rating.
I really like the ending of Kira's fight. The reveal of why his sword is shaped the way it is, and the cold way Kira flips Abirama's words back at him, are great.
Seeing Yumichika and Ikkaku as a package deal is very understandable, and kinda intentional from both of them from their shared character traits of wanting to stay as members of Squad 11 for the sake of another, Captain for Ikkaku and both captain and Ikkaku (but mainly Ikkaku due to their longer history together and general deeper connection) for Yumichika, and thus sorta acting as a cover for each other when they go out and act as a duo of normal officers for their squad. Also you have now seen THE GOAT reaper of Hisagi in action, and his special treatment in having his Zanpakuto spirit shown (even if its just a sketch) and how his fight gets treated in anime. Also calling the 4 pillar defenders a Boy band feels both so appropriate and so ill fittingly funny. They'd never be able to sing together since they'd never be able to agree on their genre of choice.
I think you got a little confused on Ikkaku. He didn't want to use his bankai because of fear of being promoted to a captain (which there are 3 open spots currently). The reason why is because he idolizes Kenpachi too much to be in a different division than him. So he refuses to use his bankai in front of most soul reapers. Only way you'll see Ikkaku become a captain is if Kenpachi bites the bullet. Its very similar to Yumichika's situation with his real shikai form.
If you wondering why Iba knew about Ikkakus bankai, its coz Iba was before a part of squad 11, in the Soul Society arc when he fights Ikkaku its mentioned that Iba transferred to squad 7 coz it was impossible for him to become a lieutenant in squad 11 on the account of Yachiru existing. So Iba was actually a 3rd man of the Yumichika and Ikkaku package at some point. In my opinion its not that Ikkaku doesnt want to show of his achievements, its about respect but not for himself, its more so the respect he has for other person, namely Keny, he respect Keny so much he must serve under him in the same squad as him until one of them dies. And Ken doesnt even know the name of his zanpakuto so Ikkaku can not embarrass his Captain by showing people that he managed to achieve Bankai before him
Names are an incredibly important thing in Bleach that contain the true essence of the thing attached to them and Yumichika specifically warps and conceals his true Shikai behind a false name. This is something to consider both looking back and in the future.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. These Bleach reviews are so much better than the ones Totally Not Mark did. He completely forgot that Izuru even existed, and claimed it was the first time he even saw the character, despite him playing a fairly massive role during the Soul Society Arc. Keep up the awesome work, Agamotto. Hard to believe we're almost at the end of the Arrancar Arc.
I like Mark's stuff but it did feel like he just, at the risk of sounding pretentious, wasn't getting Bleach? Which is fine, not everyone has to like every thing, just was noticeable at times when he'd forget things or not pay attention to subtler elements.
Mark has this weird recurring thing of not paying attention to or caring about most side characters in any of the series he reviews. Like imagine reviewing the Chimera Ant arc in HXH and only barely touching on Meruem and Komugi.
One thing I really love about Yumichika (who is strangely one of my favourite characters) is how he reacts when he thinks Ikkaku is in trouble. When Ikkaku releases his Bankai earlier he's really nonchalant about it but here when Ikkaku goes down, Yumichika panics and starts to run towards him to help. They have to sedate him to stop him from potentially running into a fight he can't win and getting himself killed and its such a cool moment subtly showing more of Yumichika's personality again. He gets a lot in this arc for sure.
Since you like Ikkaku so much, if you haven't already you should check out the filler episode 133 (titled: Ikkaku's Hot-Blooded Kendo Tale). It basically involves Ikkaku training some kendo club students. It's definitely one of my favorite filler episodes in bleach.

5:14 No, his biggest fight was against Lieutenant Shuhei Hisagi. It was off screen but Kenpachi noted that it was amazing for him to not only win but to win without a scratch on him. And we saw the defeated Shuhei afterwards hint that whatever Yumichika used to defeat him was some type of secret trick…
I find him appalling on multiple levels visually and instinctually but as someone with a similar vanity to him and Yumichika I found myself liking him somewhat and relating to him
Ikkaku's defeat also makes the Arrancar seem more dangerous to us, since one of them - who was only a Fraccion - has to be taken out by an actual captain. It reinforces the impression of how Arrancar pair up against Captains that we got earlier and that Ulquiorra tried to propagate when he claimed their abilities (such as Sonido) were superior.
I think it's worth noting that Findorr did supposedly reach the power of a captain, but Hisagi is literally stronger than "captain level" threats Findorr's mistake was assuming he could psychologically scare Hisagi, the man who respects fear, not much more I can say without going into spoiler territory but yeah love HIsagi he's the goat.
Uh, no? Madarame isn't a Noble Clan and the first time we see Ikkaku (as in, the earliest we see him in his life) is in the Rukongai with Yumichika. Where did you get this idea?
@@almightygod2144 Madarame is a noble clan (lesser clan). You see the girl shinigami who appears at the start of tybw with the other shinigami and they got saved by Ichigo and his friends ? That girl is a Madarame and Ikkaku's relative. Ikkaku got kicked out of his clan that's why he was in Rukongai
@@noxkurosaki4213 ?? So because two people share a clan, you think that makes it a noble clan? Where did you read that Ikkaku got kicked out? That's not in the manga or in any of the LNs. Give me the source, because I'm pretty sure you and OP are just making shit up
@almightygod2144 Question 258 on Klab. A fan asked what is the relationship between Ikkaku and Shino. Kubo answered that they are relatives and the Madarame family is a noble family and Ikkaku is considered an outcast.
@@maximus4426 The translation I found, and the one I'm familiar with, just says Madarame is a distinguished family, not a Noble Clan. The wiki also just says a "prestigious family". Again, source?
Some people don't consider the Winter War a war and call it more of a tournament just because it's all heavy hitters. I guess the Holy Grail War isn't one either by those standards.
Yumichika is fascinating, especially here--there is a lot of subtext regarding 'passing' while being a homosexually coded character. When pushed up against the garish performative beauty of drag-queen Charlotte, it's interesting to find that Yumichika is still willing to hide this indirect, flowery mode of sucking off his opponents. Yumichika is more than capable of dispatching his opponents but he'd rather mask what his peers see as shameful despite its power and beauty. I don't know why the anime producers decided Hisagi should be given huge animation quality for his fight with Findorr, but we're blessed for it.
yumichika always had one of my favorite zanpakuto designs, and i only grew to love it more after we learned that it that form because it was given a nickname. it opens up so much for the power system that a characters power can completely change type based on what you call it. it also makes you question, every time some uses a weak or strong power, is that actually their true power? or is it only a small part of it? god i love bleach's power system! it looks so simple on paper, but the more you dig into the story the more lairs get revealed.
Another thing I loved about the fight between Yumichika and Charlotte is the metaphor about Yumichika being closeted, while Charlotte being all "out and proud". It's like this great parallel between both of them, with Yumichika hiding his "true self" so as to fit in in a squad that has predominantly straight people, who might mock him for his sexuallity (since using Kido-based powers is gay, apparently xd), while Charlotte has fully embraced his identity and powers, as ridiculous and over the top as they may seem to other people, he simply doesn't care, because that's who he is. Yumichika calling Charlotte out for looking ugly is his internalised homophobia speaking. In reality there is a little shred of jealousy in that too, since Charlotte has the bravery to be his unapologetic self. The moment Yumichika got the chance to talk with him in private, is when he showed his true colours and actually thanked Chuhlhourne for giving him the chance to be himself, even for a brief moment. So yeah, I admire Kubo for including something so progressive in a series as old as Bleach, with such wide representation and respect for each character.
@@Honest_Mids_Masher Yeah I mean Kubo is a master is sublety after all. Many battles have multiple layers to them so there's always room for interpretation
Yumichika could also just be a more soft-spoken guy who isn't as rough or as aggressive as all the other members of his squad (and although still somewhat ashamed of himself, he is still way less scared than everyone else of being himself as he isn't as afraid of losing Kenpachi's respect). Also, the unspoken rule of his squad is that kidou-type zanpakutous are for the "weak" because that was Kenpachi's philosophy before fighting Ichigo, "relying on the power of your sword is cowardice"; after that fight Kenpachi became a lot more open-minded and humble which, interestingly enough, made him enjoy his fights even more. So I would assume that Kenpachi wouldn't care about Yumichika's zanpakutou being a kidou-type. May I just add that it doesn't always have to be about gender and sexuality... (Extra daily reminder that Yumichika beat Hisagi, a lieutenant, with ease, so he is both stronger than average for his rank and better written than most secondary characters after just two fights, Ganju and Choulhorne, as my pretty boy deserves).
Fun facc! In the visual novels Charlotte is refered to as a woman with female pronouns. And yes the visual novels are canon to the material also! Good luck with Cant Fear Your Own World
Most interesting thing, is that if four pillarmen (oh no, Jojo reference) aren't fraccion of Barragan, their powers AND philosophy can make them ones from Espada itself (and yes, Espada's number gain power, so question about who's stronger - one of them, or Novena, will not matter). Charlotte, the Arrogant (it's not form of beauty, cause he really is in mocking people. Even his attack truly are just joking around, except Rosa Blanka.) Abirama, Pride Findorr, Curiosity (His "Exacta!" implies finding another good answer; and even trolling Hisagi was all about being logical in searching truth; so, Findorr is just wanted a good companion to talk, well, it's not go good.) Poww, Indifferent (Well, before the final blow from Komamura, he lost his cold mask, but in face of death, bad ideals are discarded, as we know from Wonderweiss.)
@@jeffheithaus9120 More complicated sittuation with them, cause they didn't show their philosophy too much. Ggio is Incontinence (he's overrushing his decisions, which made him dead) ,Neggre is Neglect (to understand, in manga there's last page, where Kubo makes little jokes around to make readers understand more. With Neggre, there is a page with his number 27, name Neggre and he says "Rats, forget to name myself".)
Great video as always also loved that you spun back into the old chapters to check up some old facts. Even if it was a bit late, the wait was so worth it!
So the reaper sketch kubo made is relevant for the zanpakuto spirit arc as that arc is technically canon as it ties in few things into bleach itself, but was not included into manga apparently due to time constraints and the reaper you see is hisagi's spirit. I highly recommend going throught tje arcs that involve zanpakuto spirits as they set up aome major future events even in thousand year blood war.
Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc is not canon and it was never planned to be; Respectfully, you're mistaken. There are "canon" aspects to it as in the reveals of many Zanpakuto spirits' canonical appearances, but beyond that there's little to nothing canonical about it. That's just because Kubo designed them. State your source please, if you think I'm wrong; Specifically, where was the Zanpakuto Rebellion Arc said to have been cut from the manga??
I love all these guys this battle is definitely not filler IMO. The only filler in this arc is when they battled the primera espada when they first arrived hueco mundo. I like seeing the espada fracions and wish we got to explore more of them
As I always say, one of Bleach qualities lies in it's strong cast, preliminary fights like these, give some screentime to minor characters too, is always positive. I'm glad you're also watching the anime, because Hisagi vs Findorr there was on anothe level, still one of the best animated fights in the show 😎 You missed out a subtle line of Barragan, but nevermind, top3 numbers will be revealed soon, and the hype train will go on 🔥🔥🔥

Fun fact Hisagi is a high tier vice captain like top 3 or 4 but he lost to yumichika and ikkaku is often taken in consideration when doing a vice captain tier list and ranks high comparable to renji who is usually top 3. But then they rank yachiru lower. Apparently she has no good feats in the show like blitzing ichigo who bodied ikkaku and renji.
I will say. These chapters and episodes are where most people drop off from bleach. So if it does feel like its dragging on. Just pull through and things will improve. Not saying your feeling that way. But i wanted to cover my bases
Komamura can defeat poww(the arrancar that ikkaku fight) without Bankai but komamura use it already. That suits komamura personality that He give it all his best to duty as a soul reaper and his respect to Yamamoto
I liked the theme that this is a fight to the finish given who and what is at stake should Aizen and his forces win. The Shinigami can't afford to hold back or even show mercy. What mercy will Aizen and his followers show to humans they regard as inferior?
it's easelly the best Anime series. It's so good. Code geass or Black Clover are also really good animes but BLEACH is just so crazy good. Some animes can be a S-tier anime but very few can be godlike.
Black Clover is one of the current generation manga that are considered "the children of Bleach" in that Bleach was one of the biggest influences on it.
pre-emptively i need to let you know Charlotte is a trans woman. There are 2 trans women in the series. the 2nd person pops in in the final arc. Charlotte is a trans woman without body dysphoria, and the other one does. Why do I say Charlotte is a trans woman? The only time anyone uses ANY pronouns for her is in the databooks, which all use she/her pronouns
I don't know how you usually do it but for Ichigo - Ulquiorra fight I'd recommend watching anime first then reading the manga, it will leave much bigger impression on you
These fraccion fights were such a pain in the ass back in the days. Everyone couldnt wait to see the top 3 espadas in action and we had to go through those guys nobody cared about, with 1 whole week between each freaking chapter
Your optimism towards certain things wounds me. Trying not to give spoilers but I think that's about all I can say without giving what I mean away. I hope when you're at the end of the series AND the light novels that you go back and rewatch all your videos to further remind yourself of what your hopes were in some cases and then make a final video of what you got wrong throughout everything. Some things like the Espada's numbers resolved quickly but others won't resolve for a while. Others still never resolve. So it would only be through hindsight of the entire series that you'll see.
Im guessing you are watching the anime in sub, but for ONLY the Charlotte fight. do yourself a favour and watch/listen to Travis Willingham be fabulous, in every meaning of the word, for the duration of that fight in the dub. It is amazingly hilarious. Also, the Hisagi fight i believe i read somewhere that there were some higher-ups at the studio fanboying over Hisagi that resulted in the crisp animation
One thing people often not talk about is how Iba knew Ikkaku had Bankai in his disposal. Most of soul reaper can detect spiritual pressure of a person. As Ikkaku obtained Bankai, his spiritual pressure must be two-fold or more than that ,not as usual in basei, making him closer to captain-class. Captain-class usually need to learn how to control their spiritual pressure released and as Ikkaku is often depicted as someone who very physical, easygoing , he definitely didn't care about that control aspect.
From what we know your spiritual pressure doesn't really change just because you have Bankai. That would make it pretty much impossible for anyone to hide that they have obtained it. You need to actually use it for other people to feel the increase in spiritual pressure. So Iba probably knew some other way, like we know Renji did. I assume there's something in Ikkaku's fighting style that means they could both feel he was holding something back when fighting him. Kinda like the Arrancar could feel as well it seemed.
I’ll be honest, except for Charlotte (holy shit that fight had me in tears from laughing. Especially the Cero name) I forgot almost all these fights. It’s so interesting to see someone’s perspective reading this for the first time and so curious about what mashup and stuff is gonna happen.

Charlotte's VA just elevate the character even more.
Spoilers till about the end of the arc
Gins genuine pride for izuru standing on his own shining though his mask is so great
By the way
Ikkaku is from a nobile family while Yumichika is a nobody from the Rukon District
Let that sink in 😂
Your analysis is always top notch, these are four of the coolest characters in bleach imo
The "little grim reaper sketch" is actually Kazeshini -- his Zanpakuto. Like how the old man with the glasses is Zangetsu.
yumichika always had one of my favorite zanpakuto designs, and i only grew to love it more after we learned that it that form because it was given a nickname.
it opens up so much for the power system that a characters power can completely change type based on what you call it.
it also makes you question, every time some uses a weak or strong power, is that actually their true power? or is it only a small part of it?
god i love bleach's power system! it looks so simple on paper, but the more you dig into the story the more lairs get revealed.
Izuru remains one of my favorite characters if only because of how many cold lines and poses he gets.
Excellent point I frankly hadn’t considered! Love that
At first after reading this I thought that was a stretch but it really does make sense ngl and seems way too intentional for it to be a coincidence.
That's a weird way to read the fight.
Yumichika is by far the most underrated character imo. I don't blame you for not mentioning him much, I feel like he doesn't get enough time to shine.
Then again, in-universe, that's a problem he brings onto himself.
Fun facc! In the visual novels Charlotte is refered to as a woman with female pronouns. And yes the visual novels are canon to the material also! Good luck with Cant Fear Your Own World
Hisagi's weapon is very similar in both the way it looks and the way it's used to kusarigama.
Well to me Baraggan's six fraccion are my favorite ones. I never forget about them ever.
Even tony the tiger? (man he had such better character design before the release)
I remember him out of hate ngl
@@matiaspereyra9392 Hey Ggio Vega one of my top favorite Arrancars along with Findor and Rudobon.
Even his attack truly are just joking around, except Rosa Blanka.)
Abirama, Pride
Findorr, Curiosity (His "Exacta!" implies finding another good answer; and even trolling Hisagi was all about being logical in searching truth; so, Findorr is just wanted a good companion to talk, well, it's not go good.)
Poww, Indifferent (Well, before the final blow from Komamura, he lost his cold mask, but in face of death, bad ideals are discarded, as we know from Wonderweiss.)
@@bronzejoseph9393 What about Ggio and Nirgge?
@@jeffheithaus9120 More complicated sittuation with them, cause they didn't show their philosophy too much. Ggio is Incontinence (he's overrushing his decisions, which made him dead) ,Neggre is Neglect (to understand, in manga there's last page, where Kubo makes little jokes around to make readers understand more. With Neggre, there is a page with his number 27, name Neggre and he says "Rats, forget to name myself".)
Great video as always also loved that you spun back into the old chapters to check up some old facts.
Even if it was a bit late, the wait was so worth it!
After a long time I just started reading again, so I can watch your videos without spoiling myself
Love that my favorite soul reaper character hisagi got to shine, and this wont be the last time
So the reaper sketch kubo made is relevant for the zanpakuto spirit arc as that arc is technically canon as it ties in few things into bleach itself, but was not included into manga apparently due to time constraints and the reaper you see is hisagi's spirit.
I like seeing the espada fracions and wish we got to explore more of them
I like Yumichika as much as Ikkaku. They're just filled with personality.
As I always say, one of Bleach qualities lies in it's strong cast, preliminary fights like these, give some screentime to minor characters too, is always positive. I'm glad you're also watching the anime, because Hisagi vs Findorr there was on anothe level, still one of the best animated fights in the show 😎
You missed out a subtle line of Barragan, but nevermind, top3 numbers will be revealed soon, and the hype train will go on 🔥🔥🔥
What subtle line 👀
@@JerkWarlord Barragan taking the command, saying "hope no one has a problem with that" while glaring at Starrk. A subtle confirmation of their ranks.
@@TbxB95 Ooooh true! Lmao meanwhile Starrk just like. "Man I'm just happy to have friends who don't die from being around me to do fun friend group activities with, I didn't ask to be who and what I am, you spent millennia as the King of Hueco Mundo, you wanna keep being that, be my guest, probably gives you more experience with this fun group activity anyways" haha
Barraggan has no valid reason to dislike Starrk, Starrk didn't decide the rankings; Barraggan's just jealous Starrk's stronger 😂
@@JerkWarlordspoiler
I honestly think Starrk is happy to have Barragan with him. He definitely gets a bit emotional when thinking about him.
@@Honest_Mids_Masher Oh no absolutely, Starrk is so fucking lonely he'll take the biggest shithead in the world as a friend, poor guy. Not that Barraggan is THAT bad, just to illustrate the point!
GODDD I LOVE MY DOGGY MAN KOMAMURA!
"IM JUST A BUG OF A MAN"
YOU'RE MY BUG OF A MAN ❤
Can't wait for you to the ichigo fight, it's one of my personal favorites and with good reason too
keep an eye on Hisagi these next few fights. there is more to his powers then what meets the eye, or what dosen't meet it ;)
The technique that findorr use to measure his power with scratching his mask is called afinarr. But he is so arogant that his wrong about his power.
Woooo!!!! 41 seconds!!! Love the content, keep it up!!!
I feel I should comment on how you missed the blaring sirens on how Yumichika is closeted and queer with how he interacts with his zanpakuto and how he shows it to others
I NEED MORE KURAMA FANS I freaking love the sinning tree scene so much I love yyh so much.
Ngl next bit is kinda rrrrrough, like, these ones I kinda like, squarely because of the squad philosophy of hisagi and kira (also the animation for hisagi) I feel like they gave a bit of needed meat to their relationship with their former captains, there's some stuff that I actually like coming up buuuuuut yeah
Good luck soldier
If you think this is an all-out war, wait until you see the final arc. One word: Blitzkrieg.
Ikkaku's bankai is broken,it will never be at full capacity again. I can't say more.
I can’t wait until you see Soi fon fight
Love your videos bro ❤
the real names of the Zampakuto are very important , just the translation of the names can reveal plot twist
Perfect timing
Its time.
Raise Your Head
WABISUKE.
Fun fact
Hisagi is a high tier vice captain like top 3 or 4 but he lost to yumichika and ikkaku is often taken in consideration when doing a vice captain tier list and ranks high comparable to renji who is usually top 3.
But then they rank yachiru lower. Apparently she has no good feats in the show like blitzing ichigo who bodied ikkaku and renji.
Hisagi and Kira re two characters I really love. Especially Hisagi
I am here to watch
Exacta!
When you eventually finish with Bleach's main story, will you review the light novels too? Specifically, Can't Fear Your Own World?
He said that he will probably do it
YEAHHH NEW VIDEO!!!
What mercy will Aizen and his followers show to humans they regard as inferior?
i expect more mid week updates for the next few chapters
Love your videos
it's easelly the best Anime series.
Been waiting 😭
Would you like to rank your favourite Zanpakuto and/or their release commands?
20:19 SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH.........
Yo man I cant wait for your reaction to the Ichigo vs Ulquiorra fight. It has probably the most shocking moments in the series.
Bro literally spoiler himself in this video and didn't even notice.
Around the 7 minutes for those who know.
It's 23:30 and i should sleep, but i don't give a sh*t.
pre-emptively i need to let you know Charlotte is a trans woman.
@@RaffiPrima23 love your attitude mein fuhrer
Yeaaaaah!!!
I don't know how you usually do it but for Ichigo - Ulquiorra fight I'd recommend watching anime first then reading the manga, it will leave much bigger impression on you
I know I would if I had the chance to forget it and see it for the first time one more time
And then in Hell Verse
Agamoto's video 😂😂😂
Watch the next filler it's Heat 🔥🔥🔥
No comment of Izuru or Hisagi whole ideology?
I talk about their ideology later in the video.
@agamotto5354
Ahhhh my bad I must off skip past it
These fraccion fights were such a pain in the ass back in the days. Everyone couldnt wait to see the top 3 espadas in action and we had to go through those guys nobody cared about, with 1 whole week between each freaking chapter
If you watch no other filler watch the zanpakto arc
Ok your gonna remeber charlotte right. They are the best. 😊
Btw he’s voiced by Travis from critical role in the dub.
I’ll be honest, except for Charlotte (holy shit that fight had me in tears from laughing. Especially the Cero name)
I forgot almost all these fights. It’s so interesting to see someone’s perspective reading this for the first time and so curious about what mashup and stuff is gonna happen.
Homestly, those fights moved me more than any zorro's fights ( until whole cake)
Stop the cap they don't make them shine and i don't need to waste 20+ minutes to know that
Okay 😗 But nah they shined bright here. Thanks for coming to the video to let me know.
It took you 20 minutes to read few chapters?
