- GREEK MYTHOLOGY: Orpheus and Eurydice - A Mortal Journey into the Underworld
This is the tale of the mortal son of the muse Calliope and the God of Music, Apollo. Orpheus, and his love for Eurydice, which drove him to take a journey where no mortal man can normally go, into the underworld of Hades....
Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

Finally a full one - I really hate shorts but the long ones are absolutely marvelous 😊🎉
Thank you for watching the long stories - they're what we really care about!
I hate shorts too but it's one of the only ways we can try to reach new people, and if we don't get numbers up - we might have to shut the channel down!

@@livingmythology1405 Ahh sorry, i did not understand that 😅 Thanks for the reply and the awesome videos 💪🥳👍
@@livingmythology1405I like a thorough story.
OMG!!! How beautifully you narrated this story even to the point where I teared up near the end! You’re so good!! Thank you.
Wow, thank you so much! I'm glad you felt touched by the tale!

@@livingmythology1405why isn't Apollo his father not speaking?
God, I love these stories of myth so much. This was one of my favorite Greek myths and one of the first they taught us in school. It offers another inspirational tale of tragic love and shows us another side of Hades/Persephone. I hope the next Greek myth tells the tale of Daedelus and Icarus. If not I hope we might revisit the Norse mythology and a reexamination of Loki and his children. I kind of think Loki’s character is sometimes misunderstood like Hades is at times. Anyway, great work!
Thank you so so much! It is a fascinating one !!
And all great suggestions I will add to the list!!

@@livingmythology1405you hit this story right out of the park.
Ah, the classic tale of Orpheus, the Argonaut who journeyed to the Underworld, all for the sake of love! A very bittersweet, very Greek story! Showing it from the perspective of the gods was an interesting touch. I loved the shift in moods, from joy and love, to sorrow and grief, to epic determination! You made this story have so many feelings, and as always, very excellent dialogue.
Thank you very kindly! We try to make it a fun journey - even the sad tales!

Inspired, the best and most memorable retelling of this “myth” I have ever heard. ❤ Perhaps death does not have the last word after all …. 🙏🏽
A sad story of trust. Not just in Eurydice but also trust in Hades being honest. So close yet so far.
Very true my friend

The story of Izanagi & Izanami is almost VERBATIM similar. I THINK there is a video of it on YT.
@@livingmythology1405 I did an art piece with Orpheus & Eurydice. I think that I'll do another after this. One could say that I was INSPIRED.
A really good job, Baldermort as you could hear the pride Calliope felt, then her sorrow.
The absolute definition of Greek tragedy.
Thank you so much my friend!

I've heard when Orpheus died he was reunited with eurydice.
Another masterpiece 👏
Thank you very much my friend!

I dreamt I was in Orpheus shoes last year and when i woke up my ex girlfriend was dead and im wobdering how many times ive been through this in past lives and how many times i will have to fail before i save her. I think its karma for all the women who lost their husbands too soon in war. Please make a video about Jason and the Argonauts. I love this channel
I’m actually going to see Hadestown in a few days. I hope it’s going to be good. (For those who don’t know, Hadestown is a Great Depression Era retelling of this myth.) Wish me luck when I see it.
I hope you enjoy! I've heard it's fantastic but have yet to check it out!
- Lightbringer
love your content living mythology can we also get some more Norse mythology please and thank you
I'm trying to get something done very soon. Apologies for the delays.
@@Baldermort HEY DONT SAY SORRY YOUR STUFF IS THE COOLEST MYTHOLOGY ON HERE PLEASE KEEP DOING WHAT YOUR DOING
Shoulda just played marco polo till they got to the surface.
Genius! But Marco Polo existed long after Greek's Classic age
😂😂😂
Should have asked eurydice to sing.
Always a sad story, but a deep one... cs no matter how one loves another, how much... still no one can win over death...
Very true my friend!
- Lightbringer
I am a singer too prehaps were all moe connected and as we are carried by life we change slightly nut never fully as i have a natural talent to sing and compise lyrics they tell me i inherit it from the angelic realms
"Enamored with one another from first sight"
Ahhhh….so sad….
Tragic tale indeed!
- Lightbringer
The voice acting and narration you produce has always been excellent. Always so believable and full of life. But in this story it was simply outstanding. I could have been listening to the Goddess herself. Through powerful imagery and narration, i felt I was on this journey with Orpheus, sharing in his joy at the wedding as much as the pain of his loss in death. The anxiety of every step through the underworld made my eyes water.. it felt more than i was just being told a story. It has been a long time i have been this invested and moved in a story. You have outdid yourselves! Bravo! Keep up the suprb work! 5* ♡
Thank you so so much! We try to get better and better and better!
It's wonderful to know that it moved you, that you felt this tale, as we intended :)
Thank you for watching!
- Lightbringer
Hey there, the contents of your channel seems really interesting! Just as a humble suggestion,do you mind telling retelling stories from other cultures (such as Hindu mythology) as well instead of just European ones? Or stories from cultures that are lesser known? That would be very much appreciated!
Great suggestion - however we are working on greek and norse currently, we hope to expand further when we can - but the channel is still small with only a team of two.
We hope to branch out when we're bigger though!
- Lightbringer
Awesome storytelling. However, I'd appreciate it if you looked up the most likely pronunciation of some of these names. It doesn't require much research. In the case of Eurydice, it's closer to A-u-r-e-d-e-k-eh :)
Thank you - And I did try to look it up, but every video I checked had it pronounced the way I said!
I am so sorry - if you have a reliable and accurate resource to help with pronunciation - I'd love to see it!
The videos I've used have been very unhelpful it seems!
- Lightbringer
Wasn't Orpheus one of the Argonauts?
Ahh yes. Yes he was
Oh yes - you know your myths my friend!
- Lightbringer
A myth so enchating that inspired the whole mystic Orphic religion!!!!
You got that right!
- Lightbringer
@@livingmythology1405shows not all husbands are scrubs.
These are truly Great stories the Greek the Norse please adapt the Hindu mythology as well great tales of lord Shiva Krishna and more or Egypt the tales of Osiris and set or set vs his Nephew hours the voices and minds behind living mythology u are truly God blssed
Great suggestion!
We are looking forward to branching out when we can but we are working on greek and norse currently, we hope to expand further in future!
But the channel is still quite small, and with a team of two it can be challenging!
We hope to branch out to all kinds of myths from across the globe when we're bigger though!

Yes i believe sleep not death and one day prehaps we would die by choice resting in peace of our child our vessels forever together with our oartner resting together in peace.
In the layers we are all connected so we dont need to dig into each others if someone want to deoart simplythat gate be shut
A very beautiful video. But if Orpheus was the son of Apollo and a muse, shouldn't he have been immortal?
You'd have to ask the ancient greeks my friend - We take what we can find from the ancient sources to make a narrative and fun tale

He was trick, was not told the distance she was behind him. 1 meter or 200,000 miles close. Check mate before he start it. Tragic
