    Euge we desperately need a full 30 min tutorial from you teaching 80s style rhythm like in this song. All the chord shapes, open chords, inverted chords, whatever you do in your incredible 80s tracks. A full lesson in the rhythm style of the 80s Sunset Strip sound. Please man, please!

    I've recorded with the Origin 20 and gigged many times with the Origin 50 because it's less troublesome than the JCM800 (or JCM900) but sounds just a good. I've got plenty of hand-wired amps but hardly ever use them because even the self proclaimed cork-sniffing tube snobs (which I used to be) couldn't tell the difference, especially in a live setting. More $$ for an amp doesn't mean it's better, it just means bragging rights.

      Seriously. I've definitely learned that price tag, and pedigree does not mean how much I will enjoy it. My favorite amp to bring to jam sessions right now is my old Peavey Butcher with a Boss SD-1 in front. Simple, yet so good sounding.

      @neilswan8015 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Even Dave Friedman and James Brown(5150 builder) say hand wired is very overrated and doesn't make an amp sound better. I also used to think hand wired was better.

    • @HSTRTGMS
      @HSTRTGMS ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me, the difference between hardwired and PCBA tends to be a simple choice between repairability and the associated downtime. I had a Fender Bassbreaker and 15 - a tube combo amp and it required replacement of the same PCB reverb board again and again, 3 times within the first year of purchase - a brand new amp. The downtime was 6-10 weeks at a time. So annoying! This head sounds great and is seemingly a great value. I’m just very wary AND have become weary of PCB for the reasons aforementioned. The new AND aftermarket prices for this head are great, however and just may have nearly sold me on it. I’ll still hold on to one or two other HW Marshall tube amps - my ‘72 Marshall Artiste 2040 2x12 and at some point, the 1959HW.

    The Origin 20 is probably the best bang for buck gear purchase I've ever made. Playing only at home these days - mine lives on the 0.5 and 3 watt settings, *plus* usually just enough attenuation not to squash it because those are still loud enough for the neighbours. Even if a real JMP/JTM sounds better at full tilt, I don't think anything else could do the cranked Marshall at home practice volume better.
    It's very versatile with pedals or treating it as a 20W EL34 valve power amp for other preamps.
    It takes a bit of learning to dial in, and I get why people who think Marshall = Hot-rodded JCM800 would be disappointed by it, its more in the Bassman/JTM ballpark (there's the DSL for affordable high gain). Treating it like a non master volume amp by starting with the volume wide open as you have done yields the best results, and the greenback is definitely the right speaker for it (I think it's half of the old school Marshall sound).

    Awesome! I have the combo Origin 20 amp, to my ears that plexi has more signal in it. It has more frequencies that I can hear. So it sounds more powerful. The O20 is closer to a Fender amp. But still the O20 is very close to sounding like the plexi. Great playing!

    I have the 20W version and not fond of the built in boost, I think it gets a bit flubby. Sounds great with a boost pedal in front though. Tightens it right up and gives it a nice edge. The tilt control is great. If I want more of everything I switch to my 5150 III. By the way, your Marshall cab sounds incredible!

    I've had the same amp in the combo version for a year, gigging 6x a month. Absolutely love it. It's actually inspired by pre-plexi Marshalls like the JTM45 and Bluesbreaker, hence the name. I've owned an original 1969 plexi, and prefer the cleans on the Origin. But you can make the Origin come pretty close to plexis nonetheless

    • @rebeccabailey527
      @rebeccabailey527 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I absolutely hate the term Plexi. Marshall NEVER called any of their amps a "Plexi", but all of them can be considered to be a "plexi", because every model shared the same circuit topology, and all the models sounded pretty much the same.

    • @slimturnpike
      @slimturnpike 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rebeccabailey527 Hello we have a prescriptivist here. I'm happy with a more descriptivist route - describing actual language usage. From Marshall's own website: Plexi refers to the early Marshall amps that used a plexiglass front panel from 1965-1969. The 100 Watt Super Lead (model number 1959) is the amp most commonly associated with the name.
      It's part of the general lexicon whether you like it or not. Sorry about that.

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Real deal is always a real deal and I have full control over the cabs, speakers, mics, mic pre etc. whereas IR is something that someone created / captured. But that being said I still use the reactive load & Jens Bogren’s IRs every now & then if I want something else than I get from my cabs.

    I dont know how prevalent it is with the heads, but the combos sometimes have an issue with the volume dropping out, or jumping back and forth.
    So I opened mine up, and discovered all of the wires from the switches and the transformers that connect to the pcb were being vibrated loose, The connectors are the same kind you will find on a speaker.
    First I crimped all the connectors tightly to the blades on the board, and that worked for a while. But it came back.
    I eventually had to cut off the connectors on each wire, and solder the wires to the blades. No volume issues since.

    I bought an Origin 50, and the amp is good enough to clearly show what music is in your hand. If you cannot make good noise with this amp, there is no reason to spend a penny more on an expensive head; you may just need more practice. Working so well with pedals, and the price tag is a bargain.

  • @GG-fz7st
    @GG-fz7st 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

    How loud would you say the Origin 20 is at 0,5W? I've been thinking of buying a small tube amp, something capable of 1W or lower. But I'm starting to think that any tube amp - in case you want to crank it up (or high enough to get 'that' sound) - is too loud for typical bedroom volume.
    I don't know what it is with these videos, but these guys are making every amp and guitar and everything sound the same 😁. If I could make a 200 dollar guitar and a 500 dollar amp sound like something "Made in USA/Europe/Japan", I'd probably not bother paying more. Sure, there was a difference, but for me not worth the extra money. The quality of the parts could be different though. I love my Indonesian Squier, but the tremolo was basically unusable because of the poor quality. Could be the same with these cheap amps. But I'm sure they're good value nontheless.

    Appears to be a nice pedal platform, is there any tube head that the SD-1 can not spice up well? By the way, I clicked the first like on this vid, not even out in minutes, was just happening to be browsing. haha 😁

      Yeah! Some take a tube screamer a bit better (I like TS more with my 5150) but with Marshalls it’s a no brainer 😎💪. Cool man thanks!

    Your opinion, which Marshall is more close to the Zakk sound in the 80, origin 20 or dsl 20

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all depends the way one plays but I’d say probably the DSL since Origin is more in that Plexi territory and if I remember correct I could get pretty good 800 style tones out from the DSL; low gain and SD-1 in front etc.

  • @metalinsights9664
    @metalinsights9664 ปีที่แล้ว

    The real Plexi is so much more precise and tighter in the low end, with a much fuller midrange. It's an amp that would sit great in the mix.

  • @JBAikensMusic
    @JBAikensMusic ปีที่แล้ว

    This amp was not designed to be a plexi. This is based off of a pre-plexi circuit.

      Thanks! To be honest I have no idea; I just set each guitar to where it works & feels the best but in general I think the low E is usually somewhere between 2.00-2.25 mm and the high E between 1.75-2.00 mm. But this is just a guess 🙂. I'd need to check with a measuring tool which I have 'cos I set up guitars for other players and some of them wants to have exact measurements but I don't 🙂. EDIT: I just checked and this one is low E - 2.00 mm and high E - 1.75mm.

    based on what I hear I find it too harsh and lacking precision, I did not play it so not a firm opinion. I own a Silver Jubilee and a DSL, price wise I think the DSL is a very good option but it's a different beast (more modern IMO)
