  • 4 Inventionen - Heinrich Nikolaus Gerber (1702-1775)
    0:01 Invention I
    2:42 Invention II
    4:40 Invention III
    7:28 Invention IV
Heinrich Nikolaus Gerber (1702-1775) was, like Bach, a native of Thuringia, from near Sondershausen. In 1724 he moved to Leipzig and became a private pupil of Bach. Numerous keyboard works by J.S. Bach survive in copies made by Gerber during his Leipzig years. Despite only being with Bach for a few years, Gerber provides us indirectly, through his son, with the best evidence of Bach’s approach to teaching, starting with his Inventions, then some suites, culminating with the Well-Tempered.
Gerber's 4 Inventionen are the finest examples of Galant 18th century three-voiced style for the organ, influenced by Bach and realized by two different melodies on two manuals with a simple bass part in the pedal.

Schitterend gespeeld! Bovendien voor mij de ontdekking van een nieuwe componist.
