  • Today we are taking a look back at an 11 year old nokia smartphone: The nokia 808 pureview in 2023. How good is it today? This phone was ahead of it's time because of its crazy large 41 megapixel sensor. This was unheard of back in 2012. Especially in a smartphone. It took all the way until 2018 to get beaten with the 41 megapixel sensor from this old device. Using the Nokia 808 Pureview in 2023. In this video we will take a look at software, battery life, camera (with camera samples of photos and video test), specifications, build quality and much more. We will also do a zoom test with this phone. How good is the nokia 808 in 2023?

Nokia 808 PureView is a masterpiece! The only phone even now, after 11 years that takes photos that look like they were taken with a real camera. No over-sharpening, no harsh digital look, no oil paintings; just clean, noise free, soft, yet highly detailed images. That Toshiba sensor, the lens and was processing is very impressive. It had its weaknesses; as mentioned in the video the dynamic range is weak, and the minimum focusing distance is also 20cm, which is not good. And it obviously does not have modern cameraphone tricks like image stacking, so average users will most likely get bad, blurry images. But if you know how to use it, it's still the only cameraphone on the market that takes pictures that genuinely look like they were taken with a DSLR. As for low light, if you put it on a tripod and set the ISO to be 50 or 100 manually, it will automatically increase the shutter speed to the maximum of 2.3s and you will get a detailed image.

I almost never buy devices very shortly after launch, I like to wait until prices fall. But with this phone I just knew I had to get it after reading the first few reviews coming in. It was everything I had been looking for in a phone. And I just can't explain how much lead it had in imaging quality compared to anything out there. There is picture quality difference today between phones, but nothing like the Nokia 808 had compared to it's competition.

only now can phones compare to that legendary device and that too on the pro version in the raw mode. This is because when taking normal photos everything comes out super processed looking

I think there is one major thing that makes Nokia 808 still relevant in 2023.
I had this phone since the release and made some of my best shots with it. Eventually I moved on to a newer phones with more and better megapixels, but I never got any results close to Nokia 808.
What makes it unique for me, is a natural looking images, with good detail, that don't look overprocessed and oversharpened. It's the closest you can get to a DSLR quality on smartphone camera.
Newer not always means better. All modern camera phones are plagued with excessive AI over processing, which in my opinion based on the fact that rather than improving hardware, smartphone makers prefer to spend money and RND into more agressive post processing algorithms.
Nokia in that regard is old school, it's image quality is a result of a good hardware, and minimum processing.
I just really wish someone would come up with some kind of hack to install android on this phone, that's all.

no it won't, cuz its Symbian
unless this nokia 808 has the meego/maemo operating sistem, sure, it can be booting to android, just like the n900/n9, even they have dual or triple boot
but, hey, in the future, maybe some community can tweak this phone so it can running android too, who knows🙂

I still have it on white ( so beautiful), and also the n95 and the n8, of course, they are all in my drawer. They were the best camera of their time. Another great feature is that it produces a radio frequency of its own so you can listen to your music for example through your car radio (n8 and 808)... like a bluetooth function and they have a real alarm clock hardware function, so you can turn off the phone completely and then it will turn on automatically in the morning and wake you up... Of course they had a xenon flash! Simply genial...Really nice Nokia!

It's especially remarkable when you compare to other phones of its era. The sensor was way bigger than other phones in its day, and would still be considered big for a phone now.

I don't want to carry two phones and two chargers. The pros I see if I use a Nokia phone is that it can help me distance myself from internet addiction. The con is that it doesn't have a free messenger and doesn't require load. There's no one contact me on my #, I mostly use Messenger. That's why I don't use my Nokia phone anymore

    What is ND filter ?

    • @ImportantTech
      @ImportantTech  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

An ND filter is kind of like sunglasses for your camera. It makes the image darker. When you are in very bright light, you can make the shutter speed longer. This means that there is some motion blur.
If there is no nd filter, the shutter is very high so there is almost no motion blur. Sometimes this is nice, but not always.

The last attempt for phone to be the best at everything.. just because they could… just for the hell of it.
Xenon flash, 41mp sensor with massive sensor and lens, FM transmitter and receiver, HDMI out, USB host, NFC, Mechanical neutral density filter… an OS with (cough issues cough) but very secure, great multi tasking and better able to deal with the dedicated camera processor than the 1020 Windows phone that replaced it. Physical shutter button, with half-pressure.Replaceable battery and back. Curved edges to screen. AMOLED, so blacks were actually black. An eyelet to fit a wrist or neck strap.

It had the Clear Black technology which had a polarizing filter which made the screen looks sharper. Nokia 603 also had this technology and the image quality was really good even for a LCD panel.
