    Thanks to your review I just bought and played it with my 10 year old daughter and 6 year old son. They LOVED it. Huge hit and a lot of fun for them. I was basically the DM for them and it was very cool. Thanks for the good reviews. We tune in every week! I've officially passed on my love for a good dungeon crawler thanks to you sir. You're 2 for 2 for crawlers because we bought Dungeon Run after your Best of 2011 review. Keep it up!

    I have the 2014 version, which I bought a Go! Calendars and games, and it is really fun. My family is not very into dungeon crawl games or fantasy, but they enjoyed the simplicity and game play. Thanks for making this video for recommendation!

    Loved this game when I was a kid. Played the classic version you showed at the beginning. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. I think I'm going to have to pick one up. Too much fun.

    awesome! just ordered on line. been playing Catan junior with my daughter but she needs a little bit more depth and this should be it. Also, bought a box set of Pathfinders beginner miniatures which have the same four characters from the game!

    Great game! i get this version 4 months ago, but i played since i was kid (~1990) and loved it. Right now i'm working in a mod on the rules to balance the skills of the heroes, i'm working specially in the warrior wich i think is overpowered. Great game, Great Review!

    I just played the 1970's version of this game last night with one other person. She was the elf and I was the superhero.
    Our aim was to kill all of the monsters in the rooms, but when we got to levels 5 & 6 we needed to adjust the game because we both could not kill the higher level monsters.
    To solve this dilema, we each randomly gave up 6 prizes each to be used as extra prizes that could be earned as 1 prize per each main corridor area, in exchange for being able to roll once more to add extra power to our magic swords. Her sword became +3 and mine became +4. The Black Pudding, evil wizards, witches, blue dragons, and red dragons were vanquished after adding strength to the magic swords.
    We also said that anything monter whose card said our hero could not kill it, could be killed by matching the highest damage number on the card needed by the other heros.
    It is a fun game. I did not know more current versions existed, until just now.

    I share your affinity for this game as my first fantasy gaming experience. This update is extremely faithful to the original, and it's a great game for kids or a quickie dungeon crawl.

    I was in the same boat... I bought it out of pure nostalgia. It does play well and I enjoyed seeing your daughter review it. Please do more! I think a lot of us want to get good bridge games to play with our kids. My only recommendation is to include a section of your review to really talk about the age of the players and what you recommend for ages (I know you briefly touched on it). Can't wait for more!

    Thanks for the in-depth review, and the input from your daughter. (My daughters were 5 and 3 when you posted this.) I was on th fence about this before, and now I'm on the fence about it for different reasons. If it doesn't carry a big price tag, I'll probably pick it up, but if it represents a significant investment for me (which a lot of things do at the moment), I'll probably end up passing. It will be fun, but like you noted, it may not entertain adults for more than a few games, and my daughters are old enough now they're having a blast with Wrath of Ashardalon and picking up more complex actual rpgs. I just have to break them of the habit of quitting every time their character's nearly die (or do die - dang it, 5e, since when do goblins have two hit dice, the attack bonus of a 9th level fighter and the abilities of a 2nd level rogue - they never stood a chance in that ambush).

    I had been wondering if the game was too advanced for me to try to play with my 8 and 5 year old daughters, but now I think I'm going to go and pick up a copy. They've been wanting to play some form of D&D ever since we started watching the old 80s cartoon show, which they love. Thanks for an excellent review, very helpful!

    I love this game!! I played it for the first time when i was 8-10 years old (like 20-22 years ago) and now i can play it again. I've got some complains about this game like how useless the Cleric is and how overpowered the Fighter is in 2-players game. However i think the simplicity of the game is its main attribute and you can spend a couple of hours enjoying this game, Excellent game for casual players, a decent game for more experienced players. Cheers!

  • @JERRYR708
    @JERRYR708 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I still play the heck out of mine. I made lots of custom rules:
    If you find a sword, roll a dice to see if it has an additional spell ability for one time use. A roll of 5 or 6 it has a spell. Roll the dice again to see which spell. 1 or 2= Teleportation, 3 or 4=Lightening, 5 or 6 =Fireball.
    ESP Medallion + Magic sword (two card combo)=Charm. At the beginning of any battle if you roll doubles, the monster is charmed and gives you his treasure.
    To determine the hero type that each player starts with, roll 1=warrior, 2=elf, 3=dwarf, 4=thief, 5=paladin, 6=wizard. The winner of the game gets to choose his next hero type and the losers have to roll again for theirs.
    These are just a few.

    • @ColTaylorDyath
      @ColTaylorDyath 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JERRYR708 Indeed. Once you've played the game a few times, you need to add more to it to make it more interesting. We've played a co-op version once where the idea is to wipe everything out and get all the treasure, with an individual winner being the one with the most treasure.
      The temptation with adding new rules is that you could end up just playing a hack-and-slay version of D&D (hey, why not?)

    You can make it a traditional cooperative style game by letting players trade items and heal when players are on adjacent squares and making it so there's No limits on the amount of gold you get. you leave whenever you want to leave dungeon. Player characters can bring back the items that they had last time they played into the dungeon again

  • @palasako8732
    @palasako8732 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The biggest mistake people make about this game is that there is no strategy involved. If you are a warrior and try go around killing a bunch of low level monsters, you can inhibit the rogue player's ability to play in the lower level dungeons. If a player drops their treasure in a room, you can try to get their treasure before they do. For example if you are a rogue you can use your door finding ability to get to the opposing player's treasure more quickly. Their are many indirect ways of sabotaging the other player. It's quite interesting.

    nice review. It was one of the games I was looking at possibly getting after seeing another review but this went in a bit more depth on the game than the other did. Looks like it will be a good bit of fun as I haven't played the first one but for newer players that you may be introducing to these types of games it may be a neat start.

    I dunno, the fact that this game is super simple doesn't particularly turn me off to it. I'm really interested in the idea of having a dead simple dungeon crawler to play on those days that my wife and I just don't have the energy to play anything complex and just want to unwind. Which just so happens is a lot of nights.

    I need to get a second copy of this to replace a few messed up/defective cards, but I'm actually for fun making a "deluxe" version of this game with a few reaper minis I'll paint solid colors to match the colors the game used for it's classes, as well as some nicer dice from amazon that match the class colors. I'm really wishing though someone had made a set of full sized cards for this game though, cause the tiny cards are annoying to shuffle sometimes.

    Hey UndeadViking, this was a great video. My 9-year old cousin spends a lot of time playing video games by himself and I wanted to find some board games to play with him to keep him engaged and interacting with his friends (and me =p). If you have any recommendations for games like these that are not too difficult to play, yet still really fun, I'd appreciate it!

    • @UndeadVikingVideos
      @UndeadVikingVideos  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      without knowing what your cousin likes, I might suggest Dungeon (they just came out with a brand new version) or Coconuts (more of a dexterity game). My daughter loves playing Ticket to Ride, but that might be a little "dry" for him. You can always go to boardgamegeek dot com and ask for suggestions in their recommendations forum - tons of useful people hang out there! Thanks for watching!

    • @noahkim4052
      @noahkim4052 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks a bunch for the recommendations! They both look like tons of fun. Ticket to Ride would stimulate his strategy-noodles more so I think I'm leaning toward that one. Yeah I've searched on that site before, but I couldn't find too much. I might ask on there if he isn't too interested in the ones you offered.
