It’s the first time seeing this in the full context of the show. The Sex Pistols changed everything. It was the day before my 8th birthday when this was broadcast and being in Belfast I don’t think I saw this performance until 10 years later. But even seeing it 10 years later was mind blowing. The Sex Pistols changed the culture - and they paided the price.
I was just gonna say something similar. The Pistols in contrast to what was going on in that era was extremely severe and radical. They must've seemed like aliens. Wow! The Ramones mention was great too, since their album was newly released. "Minimalists and or the worst band in the world" hahaha!! Talk about bands shaking things up culturally!
Remember seeing this the first time round when the Pistols weren’t described as punks , thinking this is it… The rest is history. RIP Clive James and Peter Cook legends. Why isn’t there a music show like this now???
I was only 11 and watched this in my pyjamas!! Sex Pistols blew my tiny mind, the rest of the crap on this show really illustrates how desperately needed and how outrageous the Sex Pistols were at the time , what an exciting time followed for the next few years all because of the Pistols. Notice how even the first Ramones LP was not described as punk here but really rebelled against all that excessive self absorbed hairy guitar twaddle. This single appearance changed Manchester, if not popular culture everywhere forever!
IF ONLY the USA had had someone half as hip and with-it as Tony Wilson. He knew what music meant and how it should be presented, and he could be serious without taking himself too seriously (or at least seeming not to).
All these years later that Sex Pistols ending has not lost any of its impact. My memory is this was on a Friday night. I had been to the pub and was looking forward to seeing them after following them through the pages of the music press. What I saw was life-changing. Nothing was ever the same again.
*How was it actually 'life-changing'. Your life remained fairly much the same, only you were now aware of the visual and musical aspect of the band. How does that really 'change' your life*
Agreed! That’s often what people today who don’t understand how important Punk was don’t realise. They don’t realise the ‘state’ that music had become just before it! 😅
BBC is owned by the government(focus on 'wider public good). U.S.-based broadcast networks are privately-owned, and simply are issued licenses by the government(ONLY about the $$$$).
In L.A. we had Rodney Bingenheimer’s Rodney On The ROQ show on KROQ radio 106.7 FM. One night he called John and Sid live on-air. I can’t even begin to tell you how important his show was. He was our John Peel. He played all the Punk records and since I was skint I could hardly afford to buy any of them on my own. Still has a show on SiriusXM to this day. He’s in his mid-70’s now.
Back in the mid 70's American's had Don Kirshner's Rock Concert sometimes featuring touring British bands like Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, T.Rex and others too. It was a must watch show in it's day.
I love seeing the whole show for the first time. But why is the end of the Pistols' performance edited(?) or something weird going on? Tony Wilson RIP.

God ! Never seen the full episode before . Really puts into context how important and special the Pistols were !

Same here.
Thought exactly that…The contrast and energy shift was amazing.
You can see why people were moved and floored by it.

Yeah 😢

Tony Wilson was such a visionary. Always looking for something new. RIP Tony.

That is awesome, first time i have ever seen the full show.
Glad you enjoyed it

I cannot even listen to the first band as good as they are. "They have no content and have nothing to say" in the words of Johnny Rotten.

Absolute perfection with the end result.
That was bloody brilliant! First time I have seen a whole episode, great stuff !
Brilliant, great to see the full show again! Thanks to for posting 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for posting this. Seeing what was about to be obliterated I felt for them
You're welcome
Watched every episode of this, started as a 10 min piece at the end of Granada reports!
seeing the rubbish that was on before, no wonder the pistols were like a hand grenade going off
Thanks Steve, great quality upload too!
So so good!
Brilliant 👏
Amazing moment in history. Not sure if this was intentional but the Jerry Lee Lewis clip was nearly as "punk" as the Pistols!
What a show
Featuring the anarchistic future face of Country Life Butter.
Merci.
Why didn't we get shows like this in the States?

And you still had long hair and flares well into 1982😮

Sex pistols and Gentlemen! You really had to recognize times were changing... thank god!
The lead singer of the Gentle Men lives in Montana, he still thinks they were better!
FERNANDO ALONSO 29 ENERO 1982
All that lame ass crap before with their twiddly guitar solos, really got blown away by the Pistols. Steve Jones such a cool bastard! ❤️
Those aren’t RIFFS, they’re lead breaks….
Watching the full episode you can plainly see why the Sex Pistols happened Praise the Lord ✊🧷✊

I remember seeing this in Aug 76 when I was 15. I thought they Pistols were great.
Still seeking freedom in 2024!
Jonsey was on fire in this
And drunk or high lol.
GLEN MATLOCK 27 FEBRERO 1957

When the Pistols actually had a real bassist!!
