What the liberals fail to tell you and what is also common sense is the courts take into account your past criminal history. Just about every thug shot by police has a record a mile long. I think what she was saying was that 1. Kenyans couldn't see animals in an open air zoo. They didn't have the money. And 2. Colonialism is a system for outsiders to exploit a country for the profit of another. It wasn't yet time to look at what benefits the colonial period brought.

He was expressing how alienated you can come to feel in your own country when your leaders have excluded you from aspects of your heritage, usually for their own gain. I went into a breakfast joint with my kids and no one came over to bring coffee. or menus and soon after while waiting a black family walked in and waitress came right over across from our table and waited on them, totally ignoring us. I looked right at another waitress and she looked at me and still did not come over with menus. This is a place my husband and I and my kids frequented every Sunday. We waited 5 minutes or at least 10 and still the waitresses just stood at the front bar. my children and I got up and walked out and I said to the waitresses, I guess you have to be special to be waited on here. And we left. Never went there again. No white privilege! It’s all made up. We get treated the way people want to treat you no matter how light or dark ,how young or old you may be!

When I finally had enough, I went to the register and said I wanted to pay for the coffees. The manager came out and was very apologetic. She wanted to take out orders herself and GIVE us our breakfast gratis. I refused. I worked in restaurants for many years on all levels and as used to be the old tradition, when somebody didn't show up you did their job...No way would I ever eat food in that place after complaining.

Of course in 1990, when this film was made, whites were probably served first in hotels, because they were perceived as tourists or guest government workers (with more tip money) than blacks, albeit the practice of serving whites first is not a practice to be admired. I was once an Obama supporter. His book, "Dreams From My Father," was a motivator. He described this trip in that book. One has to give him kudos for his engagement with his estranged paternal family. They were living in poor circumstances very foreign to Obama. His father was a father in name only, otherwise absent. His father was also a drunk, whom I believe lost his job and was subsequently killed in a car crash as a result. I am not sure that, under the same circumstances, I would have been able to be so engaging and charming. My support of Obama was a lesson learned. I didn't do enough research about him. I believed his narratives. Even, with great discomfort, wrote some articles supporting some of his positions -- with great discomfort because deep down I did not agree. A lesson for people to really know the facts and truth about their politicians and to treat their own beliefs with great integrity.. When I watch this video, despite being a true Trump supporter and conservative, I come away with a sadness that Obama's presidency turned out to be the most corrupt in U.S. political history.
I am in no way an Obama supporter, I feel that he was horrible for our country, but I will say that I agree with you that it is great that he engaged with his estranged paternal family. I went into a breakfast joint with my kids and no one came over to bring coffee. or menus and soon after while waiting a black family walked in and waitress came right over across from our table and waited on them, totally ignoring us. Rather, he was bemoaning the inability of Kenyans to be proactively self-sufficient, confident and proud. Of course in 1990, when this film was made, whites were probably served first in hotels, because they were perceived as tourists or guest government workers (with more tip money) than blacks, albeit the practice of serving whites first is not a practice to be admired.
I was once an Obama supporter. His book, "Dreams From My Father," was a motivator. He described this trip in that book. One has to give him kudos for his engagement with his estranged paternal family. They were living in poor circumstances very foreign to Obama. His father was a father in name only, otherwise absent. His father was also a drunk, whom I believe lost his job and was subsequently killed in a car crash as a result. I am not sure that, under the same circumstances, I would have been able to be so engaging and charming.
My support of Obama was a lesson learned. I didn't do enough research about him. I believed his narratives. When I watch this video, despite being a true Trump supporter and conservative, I come away with a sadness that Obama's presidency turned out to be the most corrupt in U.S. political history.

I am in no way an Obama supporter, I feel that he was horrible for our country, but I will say that I agree with you that it is great that he engaged with his estranged paternal family. The amount of time and money that he would have had to spend, if he paid out of his pocket, to go to Kenya and learn about his heritage is admirable. And considering his father's absence in his life, it is nice that he seems to have a good family and is appears to be there for his daughters.

The current percentage of white population in Kenya is 0.2%. I imagine it was similar at the time of this video. How is there white privilege or white superiority (superiority is the word Obama used)? Maybe the whites are wealthy and there is wealthy privilege. i agree with you. i dont see a problem at all with what Obama said and i'm a conservative. he spoke on how the blacks were treated as second class citizens and nothing he said was wrong. nobody should be treated like they are less than a human being just because of their race. obviously if people act badly then they shouldnt just get respect as many liberal groups are trying to get but those who act with integrity should be treated with as much respect as anyone else of any race who acts with integrity.
