The starting CB tandum on the Bengals in 2021 was meant to be Trae Waynes at CB1 and Chidobe Awuzie at CB2. Trae Waynes was paid $40 million by the Bengals, and only ended up playing like 5 games for the team. Waynes was healthy enough to play towards the end of the season, and he even played the entire week 18 Browns game where the Bengals didn't play any of their starters. I assume that Trae Waynes was so far in the dog house that the coaches just decided to continue starting Eli, who had at least been a competent CB for most of the games last season.

Waynes played like one series the entire year. Coaches let the players down in that game. The offensive line was getting brutalized but they only ever ran one screen pass. On defense they should have doubled Kupp literally every down as soon as Beckham went out.

As a Saints fan watching the Rams win that game was pure fucking hell. However, watching Eli get burnt to a crisp was a nice constellation prize. He was trash here, he was trash there, and I damn near planned a party to celebrate him getting cut both times.
