      I bought one a few weeks ago and just opened it.
      Have to say the manual is worthless, first thing I did was look here.
      The tools wouldn't fit the collet as it was mashed into the retainer.
      Seeing the video it made sense to press it out and drop it into the Dremmel.
      I do have a "Prinz" knockoff but it is a feeble little thing compared to the Dremmel.
      Excellent "Get-You-Started" tutorial, thanks Dave

    I'm new to Dremels, but this thing has been great. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxfPgcZ5_Cl0HDUKkMJAKde11YKQZVgMoR The variable speed is awesome and the cordless aspect makes it so easy to work with. I am constantly finding uses for it that make tasks easier. Recently I put in a new deadbolt on one of our doors. I knew I had to enlarge the hold where the deadbolt goes into the door frame. At first I thought I would have to get a big router and figure out how to use it for that, but then I rermembered we have the dremel. I was able to enlarge the hole almost as easy as if I was drawing with a pen. It's also great for grinding our dog's nails done and so many other household tasks.

    This is a brilliant informative demo Dave that tells you exactly what you need to know without needless waffle. Highly recommended thank you, can't wait to get started with my dremmel, have you any videos/techniques on drilling with diamond tips?

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. I don't' have any specific videos on using diamond tips. But here are a few things I've discovered in my own drilling and engraving. The diamond covered burrs aren't as tough as you'd like them to be. The diamond particles are bonded to the burr and will eventually wear off. So tip one, is gently does it. Too much pressure will just strip the particles and leave you with a bare metal burr. work slowly and let the tool do the work. Typically you will be working with hard materials such as rock, minerals and glass. hence its important to keep the material damp, with a sponge or cloth. I now many glass engravers do this under running water, but i cant endorse using a plug in power tool under running water. Obviously if engraving glass it vital to dampen the dust as you don't want to inhale it. A damp sponge also helps to keep the drill cool. A diamond bit cuts with an abrasive grinding action rather than a sharp cutting action, so they do generate heat. Hope all this helps. Dave.

    BRILLIANT explanation and you made it so simple for me to understand ... I got mine a few days ago and found the booklet it came with worse than useless .... I am so pleased I found your video as you also explained all the bits that came with which has been a HUGE help .... That just confused me no end ... so when you showed how to use it with the cutting disc I was thrilled ..... I would recommend anyone who has never had a Dremel to watch this video it covers nearly everything and you explain it so well ... many thanks once again ... Tina

      Celtic Dreams Just got mine today! Recommended by a guy at Lowe's. I had never seen, or heard of them before (I can't believe it! ), and I told him that I was working on a popsicle stick house for my hamster, and needed something that I can saw into it, to avoid the pressures of using an exacto knife. He said, can I show you something cool, that I think will be perfect for you? I said, absolutely, appreciate it! He took me to the Dremel 3000 on sale from $69, to $49, and he too could've been a spokesman for Dremel lol You guys should be paid! He even told me to look at TH-cam videos, and that I would be amazed on everything that I will be able to do! You guys have got me so excited about this darn thing, but out of the box the collet was stuck, but of course I didn't know that, and was afraid to turn and break something. But seeing your video showed me what I could take apart with no damage, and viola! Popped it out, stuck it back in, and bam! Just like that I have me a DREMEL 3000! Haha thanks so much!

I wonder if there is a hard list of each one in the instruction manual and what they can handle. • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Professional accessories tend to be a little thinner than the dremel branded accessories. You can either buy a set of collets for the chuck or simply swap it for a multi chuck, which is much simpler and allows you to use any accessory. See the video here. Recently i purchased Dremel 3000 from Amazon within 15 days it stopped, hardly used it. I find there is no one to give me warranty for this dremel 3000. Purchased for Indian Rupees 5,000/-. Very sad to know there is no one to repair my dremel 3000, just lying unused because it is dead. very sorry to invest in dremel 3000 for there is a dead end. no value for our hard earned money. I felt i have purchased a toy from the road side. No Dremel support, then why should dremel market this product in Mumbai, india I never had such a bitter experience in my life. The corded models are a lot more powerful than you might think. Very high speeds, and surprising torque. But they are small hand tools aimed a hobbyists and diy. A rotary tool like this is never going to compete with an angle grinder, or circular saw on large items. You cant cut steel girders, or fence posts with a Dremel. But for small jobs, it really does take out all the elbow work of sanding and grinding. For me as a jeweller, with small light jobs, they are a very valuable tool. Hope this answers your question. Dave

    I thought the manual was fine (maybe they improved it over the years), but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to put the shaft in. Turns out the collet was just stuck to the chuck 🙃 lol

    Has anyone noticed that the speed/power switch is slightly erratic at lower speeds (between 2 & 4)? Mine occasionally won't even start spinning. I have to go back to "power off" and again to 2. Also, once the selector is at 2, the speed seems to change on its own over time. Not by a lot, nevertheless, it's inconsistent, and it keeps increasing on its own. It's my second Dremel. I sent the first one back for exactly that reason. Is that anyone else's experience? Thanks

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ive not noticed that myself and no one else has commented about it. I think the thing to remember is that they are cheap hobby tools designed for light occasional use. They are good for the price, but obviously they don't compare to professional jewellery drills. Dave

    Excellent overview of the 3000. The only thiog I would have liked to see in addition would be a comparison to the other Dremel tools - ex. is it worth it to upgrade to the 4000, or would I be OK with a lower model? (The 3000 seemed like the sweet spot in the product line to me, but that's just a guess, not from experience.) In any event, great video!

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Like most other companies Dremel do seem to keep upgrading the models and selling newer (and more expensive) versions. But if all that's important is a tool that turns round then any of the standard dremels will do, even the old blackones off eBay -They will work just as well. Unless the new models have a vital feature that is essential to you, My advice is to save your money and get a previous model, much better value. Dave.

    Video is very good, thanks! Does it work OK with cutting and trimming 12mm laminate?

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Igor David Thanks Igor. It's difficult to give precise advice. I'm not sure what type of laminate you are cutting or how you intend to cut it. If you just want straight cuts , then you may be better off with a regular Jigsaw. For the Dremel, I'd say that 12mm is a little thick, and you'd struggle to find "carbide cutters" that where big enough. Dremel make a router attachment which may be helpful, but again it depends on exactly what you intend to do. I hope this helps. Dave.

    Thanks. I didn't know how the bits fit into the chuck. I wonder why they don't use hex bits like Dewalt, to eliminate having to tighten the chuck?

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ***** The collet system is used on many small chucks and it allows you to use almost any small accessory. Using a specialist system would seriously limit the accessories that you could use with it. Ultimately the Dremel needs to be compatible with the accessories that jewellers use in flex shaft machines, most of which use small round shanks.

    I just bought the Dremel 3000 and for some reason, none of the accessories fit into the chuck. They're all too big. Does anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zoe Efstathiou Hi Zoe, difficult to answer without being able to see your tool, but Let me try and help you out. There are two obvious problems...
      Firstly, you understand that there are different sized collets that fit in the chuck. The Dremel only comes with one as standard. But it should be the correct size to use the majority of the Dremel accessories. So we’ll assume you are using the standard collet and the standard accessories.
      What is most likely is that the chuck has been overtightened, and the collet inside has become squeezed together; hence you can’t get any of the attachments in it. Check out the bit of the video where I show the collet being squeezed in my fingers. Not a problem, you need to open up the collet. And here’s how….
      Firstly remove the collet, that’s the little shiny part in the chuck with the four sections. Press the spindle lock button and unscrew the chuck “nut” and remove it. Take out the Colette. Now get any standard tool and you need to insert it into the collet “the wrong way round”. This is difficult to explain so I hope you can understand what I’m saying here. Push the shank (the metal bar) of an accessory through the collet, the wrong way to open out the jaws. Check that the accessory now goes into the collet the correct way round, if so re assemble and job done. If you can’t push the tool through from the back, then the collet is too small for the tool you are using (or its blocked with a broken tool).
      If you can’t understand what I mean. Then email me direct and I can send you some pics or something.
      mail@celticdreams.co.uk hope this helps. Dave.

    I bought a Dremel 3000, thinking it would be a reliable, strong tool. It burnt out after a few minutes of work. I rewired it and it happened again two more times, even on light sanding work. I mentioned this to a friend and this also happened to him. I would not suggest buying one. Somwthing is wrong with the design...mayber the motor is not heavy duty enough...very disappointed.

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing. They are really intended for light hobby use. I think people often push them too far, and the motors burn out. Its only a little hand held motor, and doesn't have the power of an angle grinder, or corded hammer drill. Ive used one for years, almost daily and its still fine. But I use it lightly. I have a bench polisher for the heavy work. But al new Dremel should carry a warranty, so simply return it. Dave

    Brilliant Video BUT WHY point to the model feature list on the box while stating a vast amount of accessories? It takes from your credibility.

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The point is, that not all Dremel rotary tools are suitable for use with the Dremel attachments, but this one is. So if you do wish to buy a router attachment, or a drill press, etc then this is the tool you need in order to use those. I feel this is an important consideration when choosing and something which needs to be mentioned.
      As for credibility, I don't sell any tools, I don't work for Dremel and i'm not paid to make these videos. My intention in this video is simply to give as much information as possible to help others make an informed decision. Thanks for watching. Dave

    I bought a Dremel 3000. I do wood carving. The tool burnt out after five minutes. I opened it up and found the motor coil wire burnt, so I reconnected it and was extra careful not to use it too hard, but it still burnt out after five minutes of light sanding. The cheaper Chinese tools of the same nature don't burn out. I think the Dremel isn't designed well. Maybe the motor wire is too thin. I'm sorry I bought one. Never again.

    • @CelticDreamsCoUk
      @CelticDreamsCoUk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you bought it new then take it back to the store. If you're doing heavy wood carving for long periods then you've probably just pushed it too far. Its a cheap lightweight tool, for hobby use. It was never intended for hight speed, heavy load, constant work. If thats what you do, then consider looking at an air powered die grinder. Dave

    I bought the 3000 Model in the US several years ago. Mine doesn't have the sure grip housing like yours does ... and that is a great feature. I did get more attachments with mine than yours came with. I had a bit of a problem with the sanding drums ... the arbor would not expand enough to hold on to the abrasive drum. I had to shim up that extra space with some tape. Aside from that, it was a great investment.
