    I remember this game. It's great just to see both teams in their correct colours and numbered 1-11. Also great to see an England fight back instead of losing a lead.

    Fabio Capello playing against England, not knowing at the time that a few decades later he would be managing them.

    How embarrassing. The US having them play on this pitch. What a joke looking back on this. Fortunately, these footballers played on worse as kids and dealt with it as professionals. Would today’s “prima donna’s” do the same?

    Another great video, many thanks for posting. I used to live in New York City back in the day. Yankee Stadium is located in the Bronx. The New York Cosmos were also playing their home matches at Yankee Stadium. Brian Moore was a great football commentator.

    I grew up going to so many NASL games and this game was a treat. Some of these guys would come back and play in the USA toward the end of their careers.

    Won in NY, but lost in Rome five months ago, in November 1976, a decisive game against Italy for the 1978 Mundial.

      @@duckjive1 Well, they got a new owner who is, to use a Yankees term, Steinbenner-esque, in terms of his promises to field a contender. They had a couple impasses before the season ever began (brand new General Manager was sacked after it was revealed that he acted inappropriately around women and they was a stalemate between their new aquitisition, Francisco Lindor and the Mets over how much he would be paid, but, luckily for the team, he signed a $350 million dollar contact), plus they got out to a rocky start to the season, but now they're in first place in the NL East. So, there's that.

    Duckjive,
    Thanks for the full coverage of this exciting game on excellent video tape. Remember this game from my boyhood and nice to finally see it. Remember hearing at school about rough Italian play-Graziani and Antognoni good for Italy, Hill and Brooking for England. Keep up the good work!

    what skills these players had! I attended the italy-brazil game in New Haven on May 31 and i heard that england had come from behind to beat italy. Is there a player currently playing in italy that has the ability to distribute the ball, dribble, and shoot on goal like antognoni could? No way. is there a scorer like Graziani? The style of play and general technique was far better in those days and england was playing without their superstar Kevin Keegan who would be europe player of the year for liverpool and hamburg. and this would be the year of the Son of sam in NYC, little did we know.

    I remember being excited by this great comeback by England. It all looked so promising for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers with Italy, but a few months later England were well beaten in Rome.

    • @timrobinson100
      @timrobinson100 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean well beaten? We beat them at Wembley by same score!

    • @martinodoni8943
      @martinodoni8943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@timrobinson100 England made a statement at Wembley, sure, but that doesn't change the fact that they were badly beaten when it really mattered a few months earlier. England were poor in Rome, and that proved fatal to their World Cup hopes. It also has to be said that by the time the Wembley match came around, the Italians had already secured a place in the Finals, and so they didn't really put their backs into the game in the same way.

    • @gwangi64
      @gwangi64 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@timrobinson100 It was too late by the time England beat Italy at Wembley, it was an excellent performance but we were as good as out by then. It was the lack of goals at home to Finland and away to Luxembourg that ultimately cost England and they missed out on goal difference to Italy.

    Mike Doyle got some unfair criticism for his mistake (1st goal) when he received a pass 20:15 the ball literally span sideways. Rimmer's only England appearance!

    Typical England they come back from 0-2 down to beat Italy 3-2 in a friendly match ... when it comes to a world cup qualifyer they get thumped 0-2 and then Revie walks out on England for Big Money.

    Me da la impresión de que los títulos de los videos, que tienen siempre comentarios insultantes de los extranjeros en contra de los boxeadores mexicanos son inventados y son mentiras para atraer más público, a menos que sean de boxeadores puertoriqueños que estos si pecan de bocones.
