if reactOS evolves to the point at which it's pretty much compatible with today's software, and it can play any windows PC game like battlefield 4, or anything else, i would 100% switch to reactos for games
it's open source: the code is open for anyone to tinker with. anyone can look at the code, trim things out, fix it, improve it however they like. Quite frankly, that's hard to beat in terms of transparency, compared to microsoft that decided to make all previous versions of windows obsolete, to add microsoft account login for win10, to add windows store without giving you any choice to not install it, and sneaking onto your computer any update that you might not actually want to install without asking you or notifying you.
it's free: anyone can freely install and use it on any computer can be found in the trash, in the street, and in yard sales. it's a solution that works regardless of wallet size, and legal and safer compared to cracked keys and shady windows-activation software.
popularity: windows makes money because everyone uses it, everyone uses it because it's installed by default on computers wehn you buy them. if everyone uses it, it doesn't mean that it will ever be good, everyone uses it because of deals made between the computer makers and microsoft. (if that wasn't the case, linux would already win the pc world right now, and it already won the server world and the embedded devices world)
USB 1.1 breaks the idea of a CD emulator. I think the fat ps2 with custom firmware and the network adapter should work with a $5 sata adapter to load games off a SSD. druaga1 should consider this.

Because it works. My 2006 Mac Pro can play just about any modern game pretty well, the bottleneck at this time is the graphics card, which is upgradable keep in mind.
Things don't always go wrong, you just keep it real. I watch your shit because you don't edit out the problems that happen. I know when I'm installing a new os, it rarely goes smoothly.
I don't really care much for themes. Just give me a functional, clean, and simple UI on an OS that's very flexible and has a lot of compatability. :^) That's the direction ReactOS is going in, if it adds WinXP and Win7-like UI features (Such as pinning, sorting, libraries, snapping, etc) I hope they do end up support Win32 along with Win9x and NT apps as well.

I think this OS has the potential to be a real contender in the Windows/Linux/MacOS world, given enough time for development that is. Hopefully it gets a proper release and adoption by the PC community
It's seriously amazing that a bunch of open source folks have been able to actually replicate a bunch of Windows systems into a somewhat-functional OS.
It only does x32 and don't have the x64 bit version yet...maybe that is the problem...the more newer computers probably wouldn't work with this operating system
Installing on hardware does very little except to prove that ReactOS is still in Alpha stage. It proves very little except that ReactOS is not yet ready for your hardware. Better than previous video though.

The developers are working very hard at getting everything up to XP working smoothly at least. The last time I ran it, it was a SVN release of 0.4.0 I think. My dads old Pentium 3 laptop from 2001 is able to run it without a problem, although it's not as stable as good old Windows 98 SE.

Possibly failed while trying to install hmdi audio for the graphics card? Not as fun of course, but it may be more interesting to try and run ReactOS in a Virtual Machine instead? For example the free VirtualBox can simulate having things like Intel HD Audio / Sound Blaster and 3D graphics hardware.

you should have a folder with the usual missing libraries. reactOS is missing a bounch of libraries that come with windows. la MFC40.dll is one of those. try copying it from another instalation of windows. windows 2k if posible because reactOS said it was reporting as winNT 5.1 which was win2k. When something doesnt work just copy the libraries to the exe folder and it should load them from there

It's improving every day! Don't bash ReactOS because how unstable it is. Remember, it's still in Alpha, which isn't supposed to be used daily.

You mean NT 5.x, because NT 4 and older didn't support much and all newer versions of Windows are NT based. Windows 10 is NT 10* (or 6.4)
