It’s been a month since I re painted these doors and it was SO worth it! They’re holding up fantastic!! I definitely recommend doing it right the first time, and am glad I took the time to fix my mistakes.
I appreciate how thorough you were with all of your information. I planned to remove my doors, but living in TX too, I appreciated that reminder so much! I'm still nervous, but excited too! 😆
@@NeverNotCleaning That's so awesome to hear! Thank you! I hope it'll be worth it here too! I'm still trying to decide if I should try to do it with all my kiddos at home or wait a months when they'll visit family for a few days.
@@NeverNotCleaning yeah I have about 15 doors to do. After painting the first one, I noticed the paint peeled off very easily. Now I know why. I’ll be sanding first. Thanks again for this video.
Hi. Don't forget to paint the top & bottom of the doors. This will stop bugs burrowing in & reduces water damage causing the doors to swell. Plus it's easier to dust the top if its painted.
Just started my project. I have 5 sets of bifold doors to do, one set of french track doors and 3 room doors. I already noticed on my first set of bifolds that the SW tinted primer is easily scratched off so I haven't proceeded. Looking for a solution. I was told sanding, but my doors are faux wood looking and have textured wood grain, will it still work? All of my paint is Sherwin Williams (first time using it...not really impressed so far) Tinted primer, paint Iron Ore.
The black paint was just an interior satin finish. I didn’t sand or prime the door before painting so it didn’t properly “stick” to the white. After I re did them correctly (sanded first) the paint stayed on perfectly. Even now, there isn’t a single ding or scratch
You should be using acrylic enamel paint for doors and trim for durability, not regular wall paint. They should not be this easy to scratch off, even one day later.
Yes, I know this was not done correctly. That’s why I re painted them. They have held up very well over the past year with no scratches or dings at all.
SO much better!!! My daughter moved out last weekend and was worried about bumping the doors. Not one scratch or ding! Also my roomba goes down that hallway and hits all 4 doors every morning at 10:40 am - so far not a single ding or scratch. :)
@Never Not Cleaning That's awesome! I have to do exactly what you did, repaint mine because I didn't sand them first. Your video is the best that I've seen. Thank you
Thank you so much! I definitely learned the hard way to do it right. The second time has really held up better than I expected. My roomba hits the doors every day and there’s not a single ding on them.
Lmao I loved this girl I made a couple of these mistakes before for instance the door knob 🤎 great video this is the parts of DIY people typically don’t show …

This was a very helpful video thank you!

When I repainted them I left them on and they’re still holding up great. Even with 4 dogs, 2 cats, 2 adults, 1 teen and 1 toddler. Amazing actually!!

Thankful for finding this video after having only painted one door.
Oh my gosh! I wish I had researched more myself. I did re paint them the right way 6 months later and it was a huge task.

If you don’t want to use sand paper, I used LIQUID SANDPAPER when I re painted them and they are holding up fantastic after a year now.
love how honest you are ...i learned a lot
Thank you. 😊
Now I know how to do it the right way, so a huge thank. Loving your videos.
Thank you.

Excellent tips. I only did that on my garage door. 😞
A 9 inch roller would have been faster too. I’ve also heard adding water to the paint helps with it drying too fast to allow you more time.
I tried a regular roller but it left marks. This one was specifically for cabinets and doors.

Try liquid sandpaper. I used that when I re painted them and it’s held up fantastic.
So why was the black paint peeling off? I’ve never had a problem with white paint peeling. Is the black different?
The black paint was just an interior satin finish. I didn’t sand or prime the door before painting so it didn’t properly “stick” to the white. After I re did them correctly (sanded first) the paint stayed on perfectly. Even now, there isn’t a single ding or scratch
I have just painted my doors black but some colour has gone on the white architraves. How do I get off?
If you didn’t wipe it off immediately you may need to just re paint them.

How’s it holding up?

you didn't prime them?
Sadly, no. Not the first time. Once the paint started peeling I did them again the right way. I also have a video about that process.
The plastic door needed a primer, like Zinzer 1, 2, 3 first.
Then your top paint would have adhered properly.
You are a go getter!
Yes! I did have to re paint them. The second time I did it right.
Are your doors still looking good?
Yes! It’s been almost a year now since I re painted them and they are still perfect.
