A few days ago, I was in the car and saw this aircraft parked by the side of the airport looking out on the road. It was incredible and also made me curious about why it was here. This makes a lot more sense.
In response to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine, many countries, including Canada, closed their air space to all Russian aircraft. The parking fees are being charged by the airport this plane is stuck at, not the Canadian government. They are the same fees every plane pays when parked there, so there's nothing "sketchy" about the situation.
I think its fair. Its like you have a private plane stored in a hanger in some small airport, then you get put under house arrest and cant fly or move your plane. Should you by waived of your requirement to pay for your plane? Or even pay the owner of the parking lot for your car's parking spot. Just cause you have restricted mobility placed on you by the government? The plane is using up space in an airport that could otherwise be used by other customers. The airport is a business. What the plane's owners and the government is up to isnt there problem.
It is *not* like a private plane stored in hangar just because you can't use it. That example does not accurately depict the situation here. First, this is not a one government, one individual issue. At the very least two governments are involved here. Three, if you count Ukraine which builds the Antonovs, and probably spare parts required to keep the aircraft airworthy. Secondly, Volga Dnepr has been innocently caught in international affairs and flight bans. There's nothing they are guilty of. And there's nothing that they can do about their An-124 stuck in an airport in Canada. The aircraft is on Canadian soil, and the Canadian government has stopped it from leaving despite it being a civilian aircraft. Despite the aircraft being airworthy and despite Volga Dnepr's innocence in Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Since it is the Canadian government that is responsible for the aircraft's prolonged stay over in Canada, it should be the entity taking care of the mess it has consequently created. It is my opinion that as long as the Canadian government keeps this aircraft grounded, the same government should maintain it as well. Heck, it should compensate Volga Dnepr for lost income. If the airport can legally claim like you said, _"The airport is a business"_ then I also say _Volga Dnepr is a business_ too. And not whose core business is parking planes in airports and racking up parking fees.
I am not as comfortable with this. Although I have never had a car impounded I view impound lots as vultures often preying on people who can least afford it. Play it with who? This is a private enterprise aircraft. Russians citizens have protested Putin’s actions. All we’re doing is hurting a people who are already hurting, for no fault of their own. This has less to do with Russia’s shame than it does with Canada’s. This is disgraceful.
Well I mean… Not really nothing else, it was a Russia plane that actually got stuck here so… they can now use it as leverage, but I don’t think that’s what they were trying to do at first
Since this happened beyond the control of a private business by a government entity, I think the parking fees should be waived or reimbursed. Preservation costs and any damage that happens to the aircraft while it's parked there while it's blocked from leaving should also get reimbursed. Just my opinion though.
The parking fees should be waived as this is an extraordinary case which is no fault of the aircraft owners, and the aircraft was on a goodwill mission though commercial.
I truly don't agree with what Canada is doing. The plane was delivering Covid tests for the country. They should have just let the plane go back to where it came from.
Idk, im on the fence with this one. It's like parking your car in a city parking lot and they won't let you take your car but still charge the daily parking fee everyday it's there. However I think just about every airport charges a parking fee. LAX some fees were $500-$1200 a day depending where the plane was parked. I understand the sanctions and the problems with Russia, but it is what it is business is business...
A lot of people here don't seem to understand that almost every airport in the world charges parking fees, and also that many countries (and certainly all NATO countries) have closed their airspace to Russian aircraft. Any aircraft stuck at any airport for any reason pays similar fees, and this isn't the only Russisn aircraft in this situation, just one of the more spectacular ones.
I live, in Toronto where this plane is parked. I’ve seen it multiple times while flying in and out of Pearson for work. I disagree with this. I know about the sanctions, political posturing, pressure and leverage. I don’t care. This plane is owned and operated by private enterprise. One of my best friends on earth is a former Russian living in Canada. The Russian people are not bad people, just because Putin is a madman. This plane flew into the country before restrictions and is not allowed to leave despite its owners and operators willing to remove it. Air travel is the fastest we have in this world. It is not a military aircraft and was not flown into the country for military purposes, concealed or unconcealed. It should be allowed to leave as an exception. If it or another Russian jet was the return to Canadian airspace, that’s a different story. Shame on Canada and shame on the govt. This is a national disgrace. We muddy our own international reputation, just because Russia is playing dirty.
Was it fair that Russia destroyed the AN225 for no reason than spite? Perhaps impounding it and letting Ukraine have it then Volga Dnieper can take it up with Putin would be a good idea?
An option for Canadian authorities would be to take ownership of the plane to cover parking fees if it's there long enough. They can then use it for their own purposes to make money from it.
Why do russians (even not the gouvernement - Volga-Dnepr isn’t state-owned) should pay this fees if the plane is stored not by their desire. May be let the canadian governors pay the fee?
Well, since Russia stole all commercial airliners that were under lease but in their country at the time, if Trudeau wasn't one of them he'd change this to Canadian registration n flag n put it to good use.

This isn't worth much compared to the amount of leased aircraft that russian airlines stole
You morally bankrupt westerners steal Russian reserves then Russia has the right to take your property.
@@theshadowman1398 what reserve?
Why not seize It all together IF the bill Isnt getting pay'd?
They should repoccess the plane like them x)
The airport has every right to impose the fees, however the Canadian government should be the one footed with the bill.
The company had no involvement with Ukraine, heck the aircraft was in Canada providing vaccines to the Canadian government, so it's the Candian government that should be held liable for the costs.
You ban them from flying but you charge them ? Little odd if you ask me.
?
Yes, just like a criminal committing a crime, they are responsible for the situation....for example, you can be fought by police lawfully to take you into custody, but you do not have the right to defend yourself in that situation because its resisting arrest.
@@razzberry1262 at least let them pick it up.
Wow man...
Poor Planes 🥺
Fair dinkum. If the orcs are going to commit atrocities, they should pay the price.
Better then getting towed from a stand
I thimk anther question is if that money was payed that would shorly meen they would be handling Russian money so they would shorely need to prove where it came from
yeah it seems fair to waive the parking fees cause it was forced
Putin every morining checking his mail: oh no not another one
Mail:You owe Toronto Pearson Airport an additional $1065
Nationalise it and gift it to Ukraine.
Couldn’t they re-register the aircraft and get it flown out? I know this is a huge process but like…. Others have that right before the ban so they could continue their flights.
Changing registration doesn’t change the owners…
@@sondrejohansen48 oh true. I totally forgot about that part.
I felt bad for the AN 124 but it's their fault because of invading Ukraine.
This is all about leverage... nothing else. The canadians will play this card when needed to.
Play it with who? This is a private enterprise aircraft. Russians citizens have protested Putin’s actions. All we’re doing is hurting a people who are already hurting, for no fault of their own.
This has less to do with Russia’s shame than it does with Canada’s. This is disgraceful.
Well I mean…
Not really nothing else, it was a Russia plane that actually got stuck here so… they can now use it as leverage, but I don’t think that’s what they were trying to do at first
Since this happened beyond the control of a private business by a government entity, I think the parking fees should be waived or reimbursed. Preservation costs and any damage that happens to the aircraft while it's parked there while it's blocked from leaving should also get reimbursed. Just my opinion though.
I couldn’t agree more. Not a good show of solidarity to charge them while their country is occupied.
@@SteveInScotland This is a Russian-owned aircraft
August 2024 … it’s still there.
Just directly give the plane to Ukraine.
Russia doesn't deserve to have that AN-124 back.
I'm sure Ukraine could make good use of it.
Nice one 👍
Oh my gosh
Lol , right now noone is considering *fair* as far as Russia goes , *effective* is the word .
So you agree with Canada holding the plane, yet also agreeing that the plane should return to Russia
@@anthonywinebarger I just realized I made a mistake. I meant that I don't agree with it
But…
That’s what Russia is doing, they have stole SO MANY western leased aircraft and aren’t giving it back…
Idk, im on the fence with this one.
10 hours
Go Canada!!!!!!!
Off a cliff
Thank you for the information 👍🏽
No!
Canada is in the right here! And Russia stole many of our planes as well, and are refusing to give it back
Was it fair that Russia destroyed the AN225 for no reason than spite? Perhaps impounding it and letting Ukraine have it then Volga Dnieper can take it up with Putin would be a good idea?
An option for Canadian authorities would be to take ownership of the plane to cover parking fees if it's there long enough. They can then use it for their own purposes to make money from it.
The Canadian authorities don't want it to leave and want to force payment?
Impractical from a licensing point of view.
Thief
LMAO!!!😂😂😂 it’s been sick in my country for 2 months
I was there on a PIA flight while takeoff I saw it. It looked liked as if mud was all over the plane. The paint has been peeling off
Why do russians (even not the gouvernement - Volga-Dnepr isn’t state-owned) should pay this fees if the plane is stored not by their desire. May be let the canadian governors pay the fee?
"Safe Location" It's literally parked on an apron right beside Highway 427. I see it every time I'm flying out of Pearson
Well, since Russia stole all commercial airliners that were under lease but in their country at the time, if Trudeau wasn't one of them he'd change this to Canadian registration n flag n put it to good use.
Just give it to Ukraine after war reparations once the hostilities have ceased.
I don't think it's right to charge a parking fee when the aircraft isn't permitted to leave.
has nothing to do with that. This is only used for political pressure. In a conflict, you need something to negotiate with. I have something you want, and vice versa. This is one such thing.
@@swebigmac100 but canada isnt at war with russia and other people are suffering as it cant carry aid to places its needed its also owned by a private company and not the russian government so it cant be used as leverage anyways
@@timmy00264 they are at war by proxy
So funny actions
I will put it to a fine 100 × more the day
The fact that it was delivering medical supplies does soften the heart a little, but since its use would in some small way be beneficial to the Russian economy - it has to stay impounded.
Take it, sell it and give the money equivalent in 155mm shells to Ukraine.
Lol they won’t do it🤣
Sell it for parts to pay
Then they lose the plane😙
They have 12 AN-124’s in the fleet and 3 on orders so then they would have 14
Not so sure if charging an aircraft a parking fee that's not actually allowed to leave is fair.... regardless.
Yeah charging fees and giving no alternative is exploitation. That's not fair.
Well I mean…
Technically if Russia stops there war on Ukraine, they can have it back
It is also very (very) not fair that Russia is stealing hundreds of planes (worth billions) re-registering them under Russia flag and pretending no one will notice.
@@AnotherPointOfView944 exactly!👏
@@awesomeman116a it has certainly been noticed. Not a good look to try and jump down to your opponents level though. Using other parties bad behavior to justify your bad behavior just leads to everyone being bad and pointing the blame at other people for their own actions. That's not good for anyone involved.
@@dfwrider3830 meh
They shouldn't have delivered any Covid Test materials to the Canadians.
I would like to see the end of the saga of the story. Tit for tit eyes for an eye, but ordinary people pay the price, no matter are the Russians, Europeans, or Ukrainian.
It could get up and urge its own Government to agree without the US involvement because they are neighbours and directly depend on each other. The US to fare, UK Brexit! End of storey!
Take it up with Putin, you also might want to give a thought to the thousands of Ukrainians who have died
When the war will be over this aircraft has to go to Ukraine ownership as a minor part of reparations.
take the plane away from russia, sell it
not fair in my opinion
No
Ať lepzig 124 Ruslans are
No, its unfair, russia has stolen billon dollars worth of planes so Toronto should multiply this fee with itself
Give it to Ukraine for the one Russia destroy in Ukraine
They won’t be paying it 😂
Then I guess they won’t get the plane back. When the fine reaches the value of the plane, the airport can probably sue.
@@trezapoioiuy hah, and after some time new simple flying video be like:
“Small canadian airport starts cargo operations with former russian aircraft”

I'm amused by this. in what world do you think this 'fee' will ever be collected? I'd put money that if the world ever stabilised such that Russian airlines COULD fly again, THIS plane will end up either abandoned, and the company will be Phoenixed to allow the rest of the fleet to fly in and out without risking seizure. There are quite a few cases like this around the world, and well it looks to be an interesting problem
Parking Fee Fairness: If a friend borrowed my car and committed a crime, was arrested, the car would be towed and I wouldn’t choose when I got the car back and I would pay the tow fee. It’s not fair, but that’s how things work.
this is unfair I think that they should let it go they have basically trapped the plane making it forcefully pay
Well done Canada! 👏 Thanks for supporting Ukraine 🇺🇦🙏❤️!
A thousand dollars a day..... Can be paid in full by launching three hundred high yield nuclear tipped ICBMs per day. I'm sure they will not ask for money after that.
